As rumors of the iPhone 12 have continued to build over the past few months, the one model that has the most excitement around it is the smallest 5.4" model. The iPhone 12 is believed to be coming in 5.4", 6.7", and 6.1" sizes.

Dummy models have shown how much smaller the 5.4" is compared to the rest of the iPhone lineup. The upcoming 5.4" iPhone falls in-between the size of the original iPhone SE and the 2020 iPhone SE, representing the smallest iPhone from Apple in years.

While Apple once advertised the relatively small form factor of the 4" iPhone 5 as being the perfect size for one handed use, there has been a steady growth in device sizes from the original 3.5" size to the largest 6.5" size. The smallest iPhone you can presently purchase is the 2020 iPhone SE which uses the 4.7" screen size of the iPhone 7/8.

While the rumored 5.4" screen size is larger than the 4.7" screen size of the iPhone 7/8, the removal of the Home Button from the body allows the overall device size to be smaller.

To see how much smaller, we've created these images that will let existing full screen Face ID iPhone owners see exactly how a 5.4" iPhone will feel in hand. Simply, open the corresponding image on your iPhone to see. Left and right aligned images are provided.

iPhone 11, XR: Left Handed, Right Handed

iPhone 11 Pro, XS, X: Left Handed, Right Handed

iPhone 11 Pro Max, XS Max: Left Handed, Right Handed

For the full effect, save the image to your camera roll and view in full screen. The iPhone 12 is expected to be released in September or October of this year.

Wow the 5.4 iPhone might be the neatest iPhone released in years. I like it. I’m not sure if I’ll buy it but I know many people will love it, ie significant other who don’t like big phones.

Is there a version of this that’ll work on a Plus model? Or is it still too small of a screen (different dimensions etc)?

Surprisingly bigger that what I had imagined. Super excited for this, just wish it had the “pro” features 😩

The iPhone 5S/SE was goddamn perfection. Glad to see we're getting something at least close to it.
I held a iPhone 5S today and it was super nostalgic, super excited for a smaller iPhone again.

You can always write / engrave, stencil or carve “pro” on the phone. That way, strangers won’t know its not the “pro” model. :D

On a serious note, maybe Apple will surprise you and give you 1 “pro” feature.

Apple is building my (almost) dream phone! It would be perfect for me if the camera was flush with the back, and it had a usb c port. But hey, they’re making a smaller phone with much smaller bezels. I’ll take it!

Wow, about time, the perfect size for a phone imo. This phablet fad needs to die.

Yeah, ok. And that would eliminate what?80% of smart sales where tech companies would flat line in under a week. There’s no logic behind your post. Larger smart phones have been the ‘norm’ for years because of the consumer choice for larger batteries and displays for media content, enlarged text/ photo for viewing, ect.

Look anywhere in general public and tell me how many of those smart phones that you actually see are less than 5.5 inches? Larger smart phones are predominant for a reason.

If those dimensions and screen size are true, this is THE iPhone I've been waiting for. Small form factor, big screen, no home button. The SE (1st Gen) was one of my favourites due to the small form factor (I have small hands), but I always wanted the narrow bezels and home button-free display like the X/XS/11.

Hopefully it will be reasonably priced (<£700) in the UK, but either way, I'm buying one.

I love it. My 7 is the perfect size and this 5.4" would be only a tiny bit shorter due to no TouchID.

It will be a hard choice. Best size or best camera …
Judging by the 11 lineup - in everyday life you'll be able to feel the size difference much more than the camera difference. I was absolutely happy with the 11 camera but the size and weight difference to a 7 was so humungous that I had. to return it.

For me. The 6.1 pro would be the sweet spot bn not too big. And way too small also. And still feel comfortable in my hand.

The BUN (Big Ugly Notch) looks even bigger and fuglier on this this smaller screen than even the other FaceID iPhones.

Looks like the 8+ for another year for me. (with possibly me looking into the SE as well).

Back when Apple had values.

#SteveJobsEra

Well at least we got our man Phil to still introduce to us the new iPhone every year. My motto is " No Phil no iPhone purchase". Lol! I almost lost it last year when they had someone else present to us the iPhone 11. Phil just seems to know how to sell ice to an Eskimo.

I've been using large phones for so long (primarily Samsung Notes) that the one-handed-use-as-a-reason-for-small-phones just doesn't apply to me.

I simply learned how to use a large phone one-handed and it is a non-issue.

Hell, I left iPhone because Apple refused to sell a larger phone FOR SO DAMN LONG.

I remember people here getting called whiners and getting flamed to ash whenever anyone expressed dissent over Apple's tiny phones, or mentioned the term 'phablet' as anything other than in a pejorative manner.

My, how the tables turn and y'all small phone fans get to know how we felt.

That said, hopefully this'll be the year that Apple ends their jackassery and offer a phone size for everyone.

How about a pic to see how it would look on a 6s lol

If you save it you can open it on any-sized iPhone 🖐. The MR offered options for different models just align the images to the respective screen corners, while the actual scale stays the same.

If there is anything that could stop me getting this phone, I sure cannot think of what that would be. A terrible camera, maybe?

If the rumours are true, its cameras setup should be at least as good as that of 11 (non Pro). And those are pretty good, IMO.

Best one ever made

Nope. Not me.

The iPhone 5 release was when I said I had enough and went Samsung phablet. I've yet to return (but I plan to this Fall).

The best iPhones are the ones right now, hands down (no pun intended). Reason? Those A-series chips and camera arrays (along with screen sizes for almost everyone).

Just my opinion, though.

All the folks who kept posting..."that there is no market for a small phone otherwise Apple would make one. Apple has done extensive research to support their decision, blah, blah , blah and you people who want a small phone should shut up, face reality that Apple will not make one and just stop whining".

Where are all these folks? They have gone very quiet.

Android user here, the iPhone 5 WAS the perfect size, then Android manufacturers had to ruin everything by making phones comically bigger every year. Unfortunately, Apple followed suit, but at least this is a step (back) in the right direction.

5.4 is to small for me, the others are to big, sticking with 11pro anyway as there is no 5G anywhere near me and I dont upgade every year, if the sizes stay the same the following two years I may have to think about going bigger which I don't like the thought of really.
