first they push the idea that your phone gets slightly bigger every year and then they drop this) well, my wife will like it. i think.

too bad they aren't making a pro version in this size. that might be nice.
Yea I think that could be one of the valid complaints now that they will have a good range of size choices. And I hope the rumor is false that 12PM will have a unique feature. 11PM is about as big as I think I would want to go, so unless Apple slims things down bezels and notch wise to keep 12PM body size close to 11PM, I may go with regular 12 Pro if I even get it.

Yeah, ok. And that would eliminate what?80% of smart sales where tech companies would flat line in under a week. There’s no logic behind your post. Larger smart phones have been the ‘norm’ for years because of the consumer choice for larger batteries and displays for media content, enlarged text/ photo for viewing, ect.

Look anywhere in general public and tell me how many of those smart phones that you actually see are less than 5.5 inches? Larger smart phones are predominant for a reason.
Yes main reason I get Maxes is to read easier. Although, I do feel 11PM size is as far as I would like to go. If I get 12 I may downsize to the regular Pro.

It’s a step in the right direction, but seems like it might not be small enough. I’ll have to go hold one to decide. If I can’t reach all of the screen with my thumb without repositioning my hand, I’ll stick with using my iPhone 4 and Apple Watch as my daily drivers and my iPhone X as my camera and vacation phone.
I have to agree. I could accept an updated/bezel-less OG SE, but this 5.4” looks to be too tall. I gave up on the iPhone 6 because I couldn’t stand doing the dreaded hand-shimmy. I won’t upgrade from my OG SE until there’s an iPhone that’s comfortable for full one-handed use. However I am glad to see this size moving back in the right direction...

yea, i hate when they designate a cool feature to the max, 'cause i can't even imagine a feature that would make me get the max model.

Since it hasn't happened since the 8, hopefully it won't happen for the 12, and from what I remember it was mostly stuff to do with the camera.

So will the 6.1" take place of the 5.8"? Or will the Pro line keep the 5.8" size?

I really don't want to move away from this size, it is perfect.

A 5.4” screen won’t fit on a 4.7” screen.
Well I know that 😆 I was just hoping I could see how much bigger than 4.7" it is. Lol

Be thankful for the 5.4” size. I doubt it will go smaller.
Naw, I mean to see the 5.4" screen on my iPhone 7 screen to see the size difference. The article could be more useful to include everyone not just people with huge phones to downgrade.

From what I've read, the body of the 5.4" will be a little more narrow and a little shorter than 6 7 8 SE2020 but with all screen.
Thanks!

right, and when the camera module is the same, the smaller model really shouldn't be limited. not with that price difference. when you get a larger model - you get a larger battery, that should really be it imho.

I really liked this comparison. While I kinda want something that is between the size of the 5.4" and the 5.8" X/XS, I could see myself enjoying 5.4" model.

If the new Pro series will go a minimum of 6.1" then it's just going to be totally out for me. I already dislike how large the XR felt.

I know I will be alone in saying this, but I'd love a 7" phone with a 16:9 aspect radio.
I hate that phones are larger but getting narrower.

As rumors of the iPhone 12 have continued to build over the past few months, the one model that has the most excitement around it is the smallest 5.4" model. The iPhone 12 is believed to be coming in 5.4", 6.7", and 6.1" sizes.

iphone-12-size-hand.jpg

Dummy models have shown how much smaller the 5.4" is compared to the rest of the iPhone lineup. The upcoming 5.4" iPhone falls in-between the size of the original iPhone SE and the 2020 iPhone SE, representing the smallest iPhone from Apple in years.

While Apple once advertised the relatively small form factor of the 4" iPhone 5 as being the perfect size for one handed use, there has been a steady growth in device sizes from the original 3.5" size to the largest 6.5" size. The smallest iPhone you can presently purchase is the 2020 iPhone SE which uses the 4.7" screen size of the iPhone 7/8.

While the rumored 5.4" screen size is larger than the 4.7" screen size of the iPhone 7/8, the removal of the Home Button from the body allows the overall device size to be smaller.

To see how much smaller, we've created these images that will let existing full screen Face ID iPhone owners see exactly how a 5.4" iPhone will feel in hand. Simply, open the corresponding image on your iPhone to see. Left and right aligned images are provided.

iPhone 11, XR: Left Handed, Right Handed

iPhone 11 Pro, XS, X: Left Handed, Right Handed

iPhone 11 Pro Max, XS Max: Left Handed, Right Handed

For the full effect, save the image to your camera roll and view in full screen. The iPhone 12 is expected to be released in September or October of this year.

I can only guess it will be no smaller than 5.4 inches. What kind of stupid asks how small a known size will be?

The 5.4” iPhone 12 is physically smaller than the 4.7” iPhone 7 since it’s mostly screen.

iphone-12-compared-fullsize.jpg
This is smaller than the iPhone 7/8. The corner to corner size is larger, but the body will be nearly identical in width and height.

Its no use as navigating the 4.7 screen with one hand is near impossible now, its just the limit of it. any larger you probably need two hands.

While I still wish it was 4.7”, I’ll take what I can get I guess. Hope it is available the following year since I’m trying to get at least 3 years out of my XS.

I’d take a 4.7” if it had to sacrifice down to the non-Pro camera. Night vision is all I really miss.

The dream is still closer to the 4s size but the software UI has likely moved on. Also wish they’d go back to aluminum instead of this stupid heavy, fragile, $550 repair glass nonsense 😒

You know this is smaller than the 4.7" iPhones, ya?

I just wish they’d make the glass back easy to replace, as was the case with the 4/4S.

I love the smaller form factor, but currently the only thing that is missing is a fingerprint reader. Face-ID for me has been highly annoying with this mask situation and apple pay.
Best of both worlds would be a fingerprint reader on the back!

My wife's excited about the smaller size especially considering how big the bezel is on her 8 compared to the screen.
We upgraded to the XR when it came out, but she kept dropping hers due to the large size. Final straw was when it fell on her bare foot and almost broke it (her foot). Traded down to the 8, but it's also still too big.

Pretty sure I'm going from my XS to that, so long as it isn't massively gimped.

The 5.4” iPhone 12 is narrower than the 4.7” ? For me that is smaller!!

This is very bad, so what is the aspect ratio of that 5.4”?

Is there any print out for this 5.4” iPhone out there? I’d like to be able to print out this phone and attach it to cardboard and hold it to get a handle on the size of it.

Yes, but I wish it was even smaller :) like truly the dimensions of the 4S/5S generation where you could reach the top left corner with your thumb.

The only time that my XS screen size feels worth it is using Maps. Everything else, I read and scroll like it was a smaller screen anyway. Just really want to go back to a truly small phone made for one hand.

No I don't like the narrows either. Passed on X because of it. And would also like true 16:9. Wish the screen apart from the notch was 16:9 and they would only play media in that area.

I agree, it would be great to have an iPhone 11 Pro (or iPhone 12 Pro) in this size.
I actually may go from an iPhone 11 Pro to the base iPhone 12 model because of the size (if the rumors are true). I went from an original SE to the 11 Pro instead of the 11 simply because it was smaller than the base model. I have average sized hands for a guy, with a case on, my thumb just barely misses being able to swipe from the left of the screen to the right to go backwards. I have to grip my phone with two hands to do this now, where it was easily done with one hand on the SE. I know it sounds like a small issue but in practicality it is a huge hassle. I would almost certainly give up some Pro features to be able to Use my phone one-handily again.
I know. I cannot wait to go back to a small phone. Give me an iPhone mini. I’m done with huge screens that bulge out of my pockets. Sent from my iPhone 11 Pro Max that I love to look at but hate to hold.

It's perfect! My perfect size and perfect spec level.

The taller screen is beneficial with map routes.
