Yes, you can, but I'm not sure why text messaging would ever contribute to that concern. You could write War and Peace via iMessage over the course of a month, and still barely crack a Few hundred kilobytes. If anything, those folks will want to turn on iMessage and watch how their SMS usage goes down. They might even be able or downgrade their plan.

He might be thinking along the lines of MMS.

Anyone else's iPhone 4 running super hot while in use with iOS 5? Even with infinity blade running and a dozen apps in multitasking my phone never got this warm

Mine too has been running a lot warmer. At first I thought it was just because I pulled it off the charger, but it continued to be that way when I was filming my daughter's band concert.

Has anyone noticed their phone is now running much more slowly and has worse battery life? I have the Verizon iPhone and I have noticed screen switches, app loading, and games are randomly pretty hitchy. Also, I started out at a 95% charge about 4 hours ago, and I am already down to 15%! I may have to go back to IOS 4.2.8 if this keeps up!

Potentially stupid question.....were we always able to delete songs off of an iPhone on the phone itself? I just noticed swiping on a song gives you the option to delete it.

It is a new feature.

Have there been any changes in weighting or style of fonts in iOS 5 like the changes coming with Lion? On a side note, I may have an opportunity to have my UDID activated here by someone I know. Should I go for it, and if I do, how would I go about getting the update?

Whoops - iPhone 4 iBricked?

So, I downloaded the iOS 5 beta and tried installing it to my iPhone 4. I admit I wasn't clear on the whole registered UDID requirement. So now my iPhone won't move pass the setup phase to allow me to restore to my backup.

So I come to The Experts for help. Anything I can do to move it back to iOS 4x at this point? Otherwise I guess I gotta pull out the spare 3G till fall.

Any help would be appreciated!

you can disable iMessage, and you can disable whether or not you want to send an iMessage as a text if you don't have wifi/3G. but for that reason, you are very wrong.

there is a delivery receipt, so you know whether or not the person has at least received the message. with texts, you don't know for sure if that person sent the message.

right now, Rogers in my area is having network congestion and when i send a text message sometimes.. it sends, but doesn't always go through. people call me a few hours later saying "hey you never texted me the details" when i did... (iOS 4.3)

AH! So you're on Rogers Wireless such as myself.

GSM standards allow for SMS delivery reports ... all you need to do is send an sms with 3 #1's in front of your message like this:
"111Hi I'm testing SMS delivery report".

^ you CANNOT do this on Rogers Wireless since they removed ALL sorts of GSM SMS & Dialing protocol standards! Rogers did this with their OWN network shortly after launching GSM back in Summer 2000 beta and officially Nov 1st (issues and pulled launch until late afternoon Nov 2nd). I know this because I actually TESTED this with a free phone while working there. Fido allowed for these standing protocols - especially those featured on Steve Punter's site (the grandfather of cellular geek findings). There is a LOT listed there but I doubt even European providers follow these standards as they can always invoke users to call the provider from their cell phone incuring use of their monthly daytime minute pool and further rates for enabling services which should by definition be FREE.

iMessaging

Are you having problems with iMessaging? Noticing I only see one side of a conversation from the two devices I'm testing. Also, not receiving any notifications unless I go into the messaging app. I have made sure I have notifications active too.

Does the mail.app now support the "Send Mail As" or "Reply
to" fields without having to install multiple email accounts?

Example: MobileMe email account setup on iPhone but would like the option to send email using private domain.

WOAH! I totally forgot to think of this. I'd LOVE that feature ... thinking if an Exchange mailbox with "send as" enabled for your account it should .

Battery drain

I'm experiencing terrible battery drain, around 30% since last night (7 hours).

Looks awesome. Can anyone check the following please:

Playlist as an alarm
Smart groups or ability to add groups in address book
custom message tones (I read conflicting reports on that)
B-day calendar alarms

Thanks again.

-Not implemented
-Not implemented
-Ability to change your SMS tone, but currently you are not able to. You can't select from any of the custom ringtones you have selected either.
-Not implemented as far as I can see either

Photos syncing issue?

Is anyone else experiencing issues syncing photos?

On an iPad 2 trying to sync photos from Aperture 3, it just seems to hang in iTunes and just says, "Waiting for items to copy" with nothing seemingly happening. I have restarted the iPad and iTunes. If I sync one album, it syncs, seemingly slower than before, but it does sync. But when I try to have it sync all photos and events, it seems to take forever. There's no count like before so I have no way of being able to tell if it's actually progressing or not.

Not really a question about iOS 5 itself, but rather the API.

Are there widget APIs for iOS 5 like the stocks and weather for developers?

iMessage help

I'm trying to test iMessage sending message to myself and it just says Waiting for delivery. Never receive it.

THen I tried testing iMessage with a friend who also installed the ios5 beta, and it said same thing waiting for delivery. Then I checked phone and it said "sent as text message".

Is iMessage buggy? or am I doing something wrong?

Haven't had time to read through all the pages of posts in this thread, but is this the general consensus for most of the people running io5?

All I could think while watching the keynote speaker talking about all of ios5's new auto-update, notifications and auto-syncing cloud features is "All well and good, but how much battery is this crap gonna use??!"

Apple best be putting a solid battery in the iphone 5 because I ain't planning on buying a phone with similar or worse battery life to my 3GS that I'm using at the moment.

Can someone post the droplet wallpaper of ios 5 beta 1, i changed mine wallpaper and can't go back to default wallpaper.
Loved it, it was way more crispy then 4.3.3
Thanks
