Downloaded and installed OS5 on my iphone 4 last night. So far I really like it.

One question about notifications: It will list new mail from my yahoo account but not from my gmail or exchange account.

Also how do you bring up notifications on the lockscreen?

Thanks
~S

Hello matey
go to
settings -> Notifications -> Mail
Then you see the View in Lock Screen option

I'm trying to use the iTunes Sync feature but the Sync Now button is greyed out, meaning I can't perform a sync. Is there a reason for this?!

Not yet activated obviously. People you have to remember; THIS IS A BETA

IF HAVING BATTERY PROBS DONT RESTORE BACKUP!

When I installed ios5 I restored my backup. Yesterday I was losing 10% an hour in standby mode and when using the phone it was dropping even worse. I disabled notifications, push, locations etc and still no difference!!!

Anyhow restored again and setp as a new iphone then setup my apps, emails, music etc from scratch and now my battery is back to kick ass ios4 levels (maybe even better as its still on 100% after a fair bit of use)

For a beta its pretty stable. Yeah it has a few bugs, but I'm a former Windows user...

(Heh I really like Windows 7 though, just teasing guys)

I've been surprised with how good it is for a first beta. They seem to have fixed the home screen animations not firing properly as well. No longer does an app just 'pop' onto the screen it animates properly.

According to the release notes the wireless sync has not been activated in this beta.

OK, but do you have apps installed on your phone that you use for business that you neeed the data for well...your business?

My problem resides in the fact that I need that backup restore for contacts, My Invoice2Go App for my business etc, etc.

Are you suggesting after installing iOS-5 to set up as New Phone and then restore your data from a back up??????

Anyone else notice the cut copy paste pop overs are much much speedier now?

I think the eliminated their animations because they now pop right up and then when you click something like select all it moves much quicker. Like a 2x increase.

Hmm i see your problem, can you backup your data and then put it back somehow?

All my work docs are on my idisk. I only have one app with data and that allows the data to be backed up to the apps own cloud hence easy restore.

It appears that restoring backups quite often has impact on battery life. Ive had this happen in previous updates - its wierd why but it simply does.

Hope this gets resolved before delta updates, however restoring as a new phone def fixed my problem and now I have notifications etc on with good battery life again

Two questions:

Does "flagging" message in Mail.app "star" messages in Gmail? That'd be huge for me.

The Weather app is pretty weak sauce, compared to other weather apps. Is there API access for other weather apps to integrate into the notification center on the same level?

na this use to happen to be all the time with ios4 if this happened i would just sync my ipod to clear the chache and refresh everything and that use to do the trick 99% of the time. if not then i would after syncing reset my battery by draining the battery until there was no power to boot up the device and let it charge to 100% over night without use. since updating to iOS5 over 7 hours ago with moderate use throughout the and its on 77% now, which seems about on par

i dont think such a feature has been announced if true.

That's a shame... Hope it gets added before the official release.

Good Call! I wish they would put the Wifi Toggle on there.

I didn't even think of a Wifi toggle, that's a good call as well!

I was actually hoping they would make it a widget and put it in the notifications pull down.

Like this. Obviously we don't need the silent or vibration switch so maybe orientation lock and something else...

Exactly... a simple wifi and bluetooth toggle would make me very happy. I know that it isn't a HUGE issue to click 4 buttons to access these functions, but I don't see why it is necessary if it can be put in the notification tray or simply added as icons on the homescreen.

Isn't iCloud beta only available in the U.S. currently?

Apart from a nighty backup does anybody see the point of Wifi sync??

It enables when you plug in the USB cable so you can see how it works - all it does is sync, does not enable to choose things to sync etc

Hmm I tried most of that with little luck

I hope delta updates dont cause similar issues

Some nice ideas here, sure Apple might implement more shortcuts from lockscreen - makes sense.

I personally would love to see them ditch a physical home button though on future iphone designs

do you have Bluetooth and notification on?
i only have ever have GPS and wifi on at one time unless i need anything else. ever since i turned notifications on before iv notices my battery dissipated quickly. From my last post to know its already on 75%. and also restarts your device.

also i dont know if its just my but do push notifications working for anyone else? as in if i get a facebook update it doesnt notify me without me opening the app and when i do go into the app and the it updates and i go back to the iphone home i get a badge on the app but if i slide down the notification menu its blank... and yes iv already changed my notification settings to show up in the banner
