notifications

has anyone noticed the lack of push notification options. i never really used it on ios4 but i remember a simple on/off switch for activating and deactivating push notifications. all i find is under the notifications menu you have to set each individual app up separately and there are no options for push notifications. unless push isnt active in the beta because it hasnt been working when i think i set it on

I have a question about notifications. Once I have checked a notification, is it still viewable in the notification centre? And if so, how long does a notification remain viewable/reviewable?

The mrs checked a text message yesterday, then went to the notification center and it had gone from there.

Ok, so once you deal with whatever you're being notified about it goes away? Sounds like a good system to me.

Yep seams like it.
though i will point out.
If you have mail or something on two devices you will be notified on then both, and removing from one does not remove form the other

I posted this earlier but have not received an answer or solution. I do not have any widgets in the notifications bar on my first generation iPad running iOS 5. Any ideas for me? Neither the stock nor weather widgets are listed in the notification settings either.

Perhaps a bad installation?

Is it a WiFi only iPad? I have iOS5 on my iPad 2 WiFi and I don't have any widgets either.

Thanks for the tip, but as I mentioned, neither of those exist in the notification settings.

Yes, it's a WiFi iPad 1. Perhaps the widgets aren't available for this model? I also do not have the geolocation settings in the Reminders app (which makes sense since there's no true GPS).

Not always. Depends on the app. For things like texts and mail, it goes away right after you check it. I have had some games push notifications to me and after checking in on the game, the notifications remained.

Has anyone elses iPhone 4 really hot whilst using iOS 5? I'm not using it excessively yet its noticably warmer than iOS 4.3.3?

I noticed that this morning too. The stainless steel band kind of got uncomfortable. I think it was the video clips I was streaming.

Yeah the steel band is pretty toasty right now..though I suppose as because I'm charging it right now that may be affecting it?

If it keeps this up I may have to resort to going back to 4.3.3 until the next beta release comes out..

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/534.32 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8F190 Safari/6533.18.5)

Mine got warm when I had restored from backup (and battery sucked). Set up as new last night...so far, both have improved (longevity and heat). Fingers crossed.

How do you set up as new? What data will I lose? I won't lose contacts will I?

I can't get the led notifications to work. Is any one else having this problem. Is it a questions of turning that option on only ?

I'll be honest here, and I'll probably be down-ranked for this, but the iPhone, at least in my four months of usage, isn't as smooth and responsive as everyone makes it out to be. Yeah, it's quick; but as someone who came from a Droid X prior to this phone, it's not noticeably faster or more responsive. In fact, during some operations, it's just embarrassingly slow, like switching between applications within a fairly short amount of time. I'm not saying it's terrible, but there is definitely room for improvement on the speed and responsiveness front.

I have to disagree with you here. I too owned the Droid X prior to the iPhone, and I couldn't wait to get rid of that hunk of junk! I hated it so much in fact that I shelled out $800 to get the iPhone off contract! Mine Droid X was slow and unresponsive, just like every other android phone I owned prior. The iPhone 4, at least in my experience, has always been at least 2x faster and way less buggy.

Having said that, has anyone noticed their iPhone is now running much more slowly? With the Verizon iPhone I have noticed screen switches, app loading, and games are randomly pretty hitchy now. Definitely not as smooth as 4.2.8 was.

Also, the notifications and badges don't always seem to work correctly. For instance, I just got a txt from my sister, and while I heard the notification, I didn't have a message center or badge show up. But when I went into my txt messages, it was indeed there and highlighted as new.

Repeating my questions,

I asked these once but got no answer! Please answer me!

1) Is it available to send files or photos via Bluetooth to other devices? (Not necessarily iDevices)
2) Do we have this basic feature of SMS Delivery Notification or it's limited to iMessage bubbles?
3) Can developers make apps that show some updates in Notification Center such as Weather and Stocks app?
4) Is it possible to add a music file to iPod without needing to sync? For example an attached mp3 in mail ...
5) Can someone please check if any new language or keyboard such as Persian of Farsi is added?
6) How does the Open In feature work here? Does it copy the same file in each app you open?
7) Can Safari download files or we should use third party apps?

Thank you all so much in advance

Clarifying my earlier question, which I realize I worded very poorly...when you try to send a message (SMS or iMesaage) without network access (either wifi or 3g/Edge) does the system still say "Unable to send message, try again later" or whatever, or does the message just get queued and automatically sent later?

It's a big nuisance in current iOS where you have to manually tell it to send again later. Even my old Sanyo M1 would just send the message as soon as I had service again.

I'm guessing eventually developers will be able to add widgets. This doesn't seem to be present in the current Beta, but the whole system seems tailored to be able to quickly integrate third-party widgets.

Persian is there.

Even if Apple doesn't allow it, I'm sure it'll be something the jailbreaking community will be very interested in implementing.
