I ordered from an AT&T store on tuesday 6/23. I was hoping for it to be shipped by now, but of course it's still "In Progress". I hate having to look at that notification. If these phones are backordered then AT&T should have the courtesy of telling us the truth. Because there is no way it takes over 3 days to send an already made product that's already packaged from the factory to the store. This is annoying. When you guys call the automated number and actually want to talk to a real representative about your order do you get through? Also what do they ask you exactly?

I agree... if they provided more information about the order status, it would be easier to be patient or work out what to do.

I found another AT&T number that might be more useful: 866-391-0749

Also does anyone know why my debit card statement used to say *Pending then the amount of money taken out for the iPhone. But when I just went to check my online statement the pending is gone and all my money is in my account. Does this mean anything? Good or bad?

Dunno. Mine did that today too. I would think a better sign would be the money taken from your account, rather than the money put back!

Euphrates- Same thing with me on my credit card, except right now it just saying pending. But still Apple's status is still "not yet shipped." The next status should be "prepared for shipment" and then "shipped"

This is common. They check to the account. But won't actually take the money until the item ships.

That means that the hold of the funds that is used to purchase the iPhone was released. But it is going to authorize the same amount again because a company can hold an amount for so many days without using it. You should see another pending or the amount taken away soon. When they ship the iPhone, you should see the amount as a solid transaction deducted from your account.

EricBrian- I wonder if the status will be updated then today at least to "prepared for shipment"

I thought it made more sense for it to say Back Ordered until it is ready for shipping. But, she said that the next status will be some indicator that it is being shipped.

The thing I am wondering about the most is that did all of you guys start as Backordered "0" and then changed to Backordered "1" ?

Ugh... I hate waiting, I thought I could be patient but unfortunately not. It's stupid how AT&T is only using their shipments to fulfill pre-orders and not sell to the general public.

I just called the 800 3310500 number and a guy there told me it will be shipped tomorrow. He called another site while I was on hold.

He was very nice about it though.

It was worth the call. I'll let you know if that comes out correct.

ExpyBob- When did you order your phone? I'm guessing you did it from an AT&T store and not online. Also when you called that number what information did they ask you for? Like your account holder SS# and stuff? Because I'm in a family plan with my mom and I don't know her SS.

Yes, I just talked to them too... I was told they cannot cancel my order because it has been sent to the warehouse. I'm a little annoyed by this, because according to the online system, nothing has changed since Monday. Is this a way to avoid listing the item as backordered and at the same time keep us from cancelling? Maybe that's too cynical. But the fact that I haven't been charged yet, the order says 'in progress', and I'm told I can't cancel is fishy.

But I hope it means they will ship it soon... probably saved me from myself. I was going to forego the 35% discount and buy it locally.

I just called too ha. They said the same thing. It will be shipped out "next business day/Monday" according to them.

I know they are inundated by orders and requests, but this is fishy. If the order doesn't have a tracking number assigned yet, then we should be able to cancel it... On the one hand, their claim they can't cancel the order is saving me 35% - so I should be grateful. But mostly I'm annoyed!

Yes I did order from ATT.com for home delivery on Saturday 6/20/09.

I was wondering if the claim that it will ship on a Saturday is true. Did any of you folks see a status change on Saturday or Sunday?

I'd really like to know since I was told they worked Saturday on the phone.

Please let me know.

And thanks guys. Bob

I don't know. But if they refuse to cancel an order because "it has gone to the warehouse", then it had better ship within 1-2 business days. Otherwise there is no legit excuse to refuse the cancellation. I don't think it is a fair business practice. But I'm just frustrated because there are iPhones availble at all the stores in my area (4 within a 10 mile redius!) and apparently none for AT&T online. Great planning, folks...

I found this in another thread:

http://www.wireless.att.com/answer-..._dyncharset=UTF-8&solutionId=52674&isSrch=Yes

Question:
How do I cancel an order I placed online?
Answer:

Because the process of fulfilling the order begins as soon as it is placed, an order placed online cannot be canceled prior to shipment. You can choose to either refuse the delivery of the device or return the unwanted purchase after it arrives in accordance with the information below.

Returns

All unwanted equipment purchased through AT&T's wireless website should be returned within 30 days to:

AT&T
Attention: Returns Center
13550 Independence Parkway

(Do not return equipment purchased from another location to this address. Please return all equipment to the place you purchased it from.)

To receive a full refund, equipment must be returned in like-new condition, with no visible damage, and accompanied by a receipt. All accessories should be included.
