So plastic is not cheap when it is used on iPhone but cheap when used on non apple phones.

I bet you have use this line of argument many times. :p

The plastic used in iPhone 5c, or in high end Nokia Lumia, is VERY different from the cheap plastic used by Samsung in its high end phones ...

I bet you are under the impression that of the hundreds of thousands of different types of plastics they are all more or less the same right?

I like it

When the iphone 5 was released I though it was the ugliest iPhone yet, the split up backside is just a major design fúp. I know it´s good for the antennas but it looks horrible. I tried to like the 5s, it looks a little bit better from the front at least but I will go with the 5C. I´t looks new and feels amazing in my hand. :)

Oh yeah the two tone back still kind of bugs me. Why can't it be flush?

To me the 5C is the best looking phone ever made. I would love for Apple to adopt the style for the 6 & 6S offering new Colours like Orange, Purple, Turquoise and ( RED ). All with white fronts to differentiate from the 5 series.

The aluminium is nice but so fragile. The plastic has a lovely tactile feel and is more durable. Plus colour is fun. I agree they should be cheaper but if they continue to evolve the process I am sure they would be, we must remember this is a world away from the plastic of the 3G/S.

Nokia and Samsung use polycarbonate plastic.

What plastic is used in 5c? Super-apple-superior-plastic? :p

It's not the material by itself. It's the way the material is used that also matters.

If an iPhone aluminum shell was as thin as a soda can, it would feel cheap despite being aluminum.

I'm doing an in store trade in with an iPhone 5 that has a failing sleep/wake button. I'm out of warranty and refuse to pay for a replacement 5 (I genuinely believe Apple should replace out of warranty for this common issue, but wth).

I'll be buying a 5C with the credit, not because I can't afford a 5S, but because I personally prefer the look of the 5C. I don't give an f about the plastic/aluminium/weight/internal spec arguments.

Many do care, many don't. I don't see why people get so bent out of shape that someone spent money on a 5C..

+1, but I think it's more of a personal preference, it would be good if they could have two versions with the same internal and price the plastic version cheaper.

With the iPhone 5c, you can go jogging and not have to worry.

+1... This has been my point from day 1. I agree 100%. People act like they lose sleep over what everyone else is doing.

The 5s has the A7. Yes well the A6 is a beast itself... The 5c has perfect specs to hold you over until iPhone 6.

This I agree with completely. The design of the. 5/5s is a HUGE disappointment IMO

I think for the people that bought the 5s, they want that extra attention. But if you wanted attention, you should've bought the 5c!

I just wonder what will happen to the 5C form factor when the 6 comes out. Do you think Apple is preparing us to get used to 2 products in the iPhone line?

Well seeing as the 5s is the "phone from the future" they might not even make an iPhone 6.

I think the 5c would get old quick though don't you think?

No I don't think a comfortable form factor with mid-teir specs will get old. In my opinion I think the 'c' line will be the line that will retain the 4 inch screen indefinately so all the people that complain about the iphone getting a bigger screen will at least still buy an iphone.

I don't think that the current iPhone 5C could stand a chance against any other new iPhone.

What do you mean? What I'm saying is the slightly less speced 'c' series isn't going anywhere in my opinion. I have a 5c and have watched a multitude of YouTube videos demonstrating how simiar they run because the hardware on the 5s has not been optimized yet.

You're right. I always say the A6 is still the standard. Most apps need to get to the A6 level.

I think there will always be two phones released. An iPhone in plastic that has the tried and true internals on last years model, and a new model that has the wow factor with new tech inside regardless of if the new tech is useful.

I think the answer to your question is probably yes.

Apple wants to continue selling the older phones at a lower price point, but they want to maintain profit margins. One way to do this is reduce the cost by using a less expensive outer shell.

When iPhone 6 launches next year, I predict that Apple will move the 5S internal components into the 5C form factor to create the iPhone 5CS, which will have the A7, TouchID, and dual flash camera. The new 6 will get the A8 and TouchID integrated into a larger display.
