So, in other words, Apple Music should be devoid of any diversity or black artists? Got it!

...eminem and mackelmore.

(I really don't want anyone staying away from Apple Music but just making the point that the previous poster's list probably had more to do with a genre of music in which the majority of prominent artists are not white than race)

Yo, Kanye, I'm really happy for you, I'ma let you finish, but Apple Music has one of the largest paying subscriber bases of all time! One of the largest paying subscriber bases of all time!

I dislike Kanye as a person - he seems very angry, irrational, and overly self-promoting - but he is a good musician and I like many of his songs. I haven't heard the new album yet but I would like to. Not enough to go subscribe to Tidal, I'll stick with my Apple Music subscription being pretty confident he'll find himself there soon enough.

As to all the debt talk, what I've seen has just stated $53MM of debt, not that his net worth is that negative. To the contrary, between he and his wife I've seen net worth estimates in the low nine figures ($175MM or so, majority his). We have no idea what kind of debt that is, how it's structured, what it's being used for, or even if he's being truthful. Until the helicopters swoop in and fly away with his mansion (a la MC Hammer) I'm not going to lose sleep about Kanye being near bankruptcy (or more applicable to what I've seen from this site and social media, not going to gloat). Poor money management is certainly an epidemic among artists who "make it" but I won't be holding my breath Kanye to take a job flipping burgers, or even fall out of the 35% tax bracket.

edit: also, I'd have paid to see Zuckerberg's reaction upon initially reading that tweet :)

Well if the cover "art" is any indication of what's inside, I would say we should all be happy about this news!!!

The only real problem I have with this whole thing: this album (like his last) = trash

Talented dude, but he really needs help. His mother dying, followed by "a Kardashian" - he hasn't been the same since.

All the other thinly-veiled prejudices y'all can keep...

Saturday Night Life!

Also, the level of snark in these comments is hilarious. I know damn well if it was an Apple Music exclusive and Apple brought Kanye out on stage everyone would be going nuts. Don't act like Tim Cook, etc. aren't on the phone trying to get his album on their service.

You got to be kidding me!! Any one in the world, just really anyone else and you would be totally right. But not Kanye West.

Its not about color, its about ****** music that people don't like.

As absolutely crazy Kanye is, he does produce some of the best music in the hip-hop genre and that's coming from a mild hip-hop fan. Certainly better than Dr. Dre.

Wrong.

Tim Cook won't care a bit about Kanye's childish antics. Seeing that Yeezus is openly and publicly begging money from Zuckerberg and Larry Page…. Cook's best strategy is to completely ignore Kanye altogether. Both Larry Page and Zuckerberg are probably creeped out by Kanye this week, and I don't blame them. Much of social media followers (Facebook, Twitter, etc) are creeped out about Kanye's bipolar behavior in the past week.

Kanye is a trainwreck waiting to happen, and no one wants to get near a train that will end up a wreck.

Besides, Tim is already pre-occupied working with another rap gangsta (i.e. Dre).

I love the idea that apple is the only way to pay for music, and if your music is not for sale by apple you will not make any money. Are you guys serious right now?

Clearly that's not the idea. The idea is simply that Apple, though iTunes and apple music, is an absolutely huge distribution channel right through the the world. If you restrict your product and don't allow it to go through that huge channel it's going to hurt your sales. Obviously some people will make the extra effort to get your thing, but many people won't. Absolutely this will hurt his sales, to suggest otherwise is absurd. Casual fans are not going to pay $10 a month to listen to this album. He knows that, but made the business / artistic decision to do it anyway. It's his choice and I can't criticize it, but please don't act like shunning Apple (and rubbing the publics face in that decision through social media) will not hurt his sales.

If what he "sang" (autotuned)on Saturday Night live on 2-13-16 is any indication of what is on this new album, then good, please don't put it on Apple Music. I don't even want to risk accidentally clicking on it or hearing it through some random playlist.

I really hope Drake, Nicki Minaj, tyga, Rick Ross, jay-Z his wife and baby blue velvet, lil'Wayne and Chris Brown all follow in Kanye West footsteps. Apple Music would be so much better without those no talent waste of space taking up all the Apple Music screen

But BLM!

He really is an idiot savant

Idiot not savant.

I actually tried Tidal Hi-Fi (the free month, available through iTunes no less) and though it could use a bigger library it was pretty decent and I enjoyed that I could listen to lossless CD quality, unlike Apple Music.

If they reduced the price a little to reflect the smaller range I'd definitely consider subscribing. Can't say the same for Apple Music.

It's a shame if this Kanye guy's strange antics end up killing a decent service.

Are you really asserting that those people comprise all there is to offer from black artists? Not everything needs to be about drugs, disrespect to women, and how big their rear is at a club. Certainly there's something with more depth that people should maybe pay attention to.

Race card denied and shame on you for thinking that Nicki Minaj is something any young black woman should look up to instead of someone like Michelle Obama, then implying someone is racist for asking people to set a better example.

You look up to Michelle Obama?

Such arrogance. Sometimes these artists forget entirely about their fans and only care about the money. To me, he's like a Kardashian.. He's always in the media but no one really gives a ****.
Are you talking about Tim or Kanye?

I think the reply to the original post was fair to be honest.

He didn't call out any of the 'no talent' white 'stars' that litter the airwaves.

Back to the topic though.

Kanye has never really been someone whose music I've enjoyed, and his album was going to bypass my radar completely until I saw this.

It would probably be wise for him to break away from Tidal because that sets his limits of money making opportunities. Maybe also she should consider seeing a professional to help him make a business plan.
