I've replied to your posts twice now today as you have summed it up as well as I could. We are both equally disappointed to the same extent. I've had every single iPhone to date.....NOT this one though.

Just you wait 2 weeks, you'll be joining the crowd eventually ;)

You know you want to

I'm very curious about battery life. They probably sacrificed battery life for thinness. With LTE and a bigger IPS panel... Anyway we'll see.

I think cell phones have kinda hit the top, there was always ways to make big improvements on them but now it's very small. I'm happy with my iPhone 4 and see no reason to upgrade to the 5. When I upgrade from the 3G there were many reason why to upgrade, like cooler design, much faster, better display, thinner. But now sure these things get improved on but unlike the 3G there is nothing wrong with the 4 screen, size, design, thickness and so on. I don't think this event disappointed me but the new iPhone doesn't make me want to upgrade the same way the 4 did and I think cell phones have kinda climax for now.

I really wonder how long after losing Steve it'll take for the competitors to catch up or even surpass Apple now, as they, IMHO, sat still for this iPhone.

this is such a good point and often overlooked. Phones have really hit a peek

As an iPhone 4S owner, I'm disappointed, but expected to be. When I had an iPhone 3G I thought the 3GS was a lame upgrade and the same for the iPhone 4. It wasn't until the iPhone 4S that I got an iPhone I wasn't disappointed in. I imagine I won't be happy with the next iPhone until the iPhone 6, or whatever name Apple gives it, comes out.

I'm happy with the phone, I think the white one with the unibody is an amazing step forward in the looks department and the bigger screen was nessesary. I love apple's silver aluminium style and white accents.

Other than that having 2x faster processing is also a big deal. And Siri navigation is awesome, as the other navigation apps aren't as polished as Apple could make them. The 4x improvement in low light performance (2 stops) is also a welcome change I was just noticing how noisy my 4S photos were in low light.

I think the phone is a little underwhelming though. Apple is a company that has released many products that were "the next big thing". They have changed the game and flipped the world on it's head.

This product unveiling did not flip the world on it's head whatsoever. Not only that, but there was no real boundary pushing technology in this phone. It was a form factor, build quality and spec bump, it was a very nice update, but overall, meh.

I think it would have been more impressive if they pushed the form factor even further like with the retina macbook pro.

I hate that crap. I'd MUCH rather have a reasonably thin phone with better battery life than an ultrathin phone with the same battery life.

OK lets see now:

  1. People wanted a bigger screen - Check
  2. People wanted an improved retina - Check
  3. People wanted LTE - Check
  4. People wanted a better camera - Check
  5. People wanted a new design - Check
  6. People wanted it faster - Check
  7. People wanted 5ghz wifi- Check
  8. People wanted better battery life - Check
  9. People wanted better Siri - Check
  10. People wanted better voice calling - Check
  11. People wanted NFC - Unchecked, can't have it all!

Exactly. It's not like Apple didnt listen.

Never seen folks so interested in something they don't want.

Like you don't want it.. cool. But don't make 55 threads about it because you wanted your phone to have 16 MPS and a fingerprint scanner. Is this real life, or Total Recall?

Well design isn't that different, its pretty much the same design.

I think what the problem is is that for the most part the cell phones have been evolving fast over the last few years and making big step each year and we're at a point were its hitting the ceiling and the steps aren't as big anymore and this makes people disappointed that ground breaking stuff aren't coming out like when the iPhone first came out with web browsing and then the retina display, to the iPhone glass case design that was new and wasn't done, now the steps are small and the designs are the same = disappointed people.

New design? I don't think so, better voice calling/battery life, can you prove those things? This was a disappointment but will still sell like hotcakes to people who buy cause it's Apple not cause it's better.

You are the most "just sayin'"-ist person on the forums. You should put that in your sig....just sayin!

Your note taking is terrible. I'm hardly the "most 'just sayin' person on the forums." On the other hand, if you are one of the few I text, then yes, I accept that designation.

It's kind of ridiculous that they don't include 1 adapter with the products. That 30pin has been integrated into so much stuff.

I agree, the most valuable company in existance and they can't throw in something that most likely costs $1.00 to produce? At least for this gen iPhone. They've gotten so greedy it's rediculous.

Maintenance

I've come to expect Apple's keynotes to not be groundbreaking but rather announcements of maintenance Apple does to their product line-up. And that's what we saw today: maintenance. They really couldn't be the world's most valuable company by market evaluation and let their products languish another day. And so it seems like these events are more like a chore now to bring their products up to date just enough—but nothing more.

I'm not saying they're like my electric company, but the only time my electric company makes an announcement to the public is when they tell us when the power will come back on (it goes out a lot where I live). Apple's not at that point at all. It's just more toward that end of the spectrum than it used to be.

People are always disappointed straight after the keynote, no biggie. We all know this thing will still sell like crazy.

I was ready not to bother this year, even got a new contract out with an S3 two weeks ago, but... but...

I love it - the black anodised aluminium is stunning. Will be going for that this year.

Only thing I'm pissed about is the price hike. I'll buy off contract but it's £30 more expensive than last year!

They always jack prices up in the UK. At least they didn't increase it by £100 like the iPhone 4.

The lack of something as simple as a notification LED so I don't have to check my phone all the time is especially annoying.

lets see
1. nope, should have been 720 like the goophone.
2. Retina is lower PPI so not better, but worst
3. Yes LTE only a year late, amazing
4. camera not better, they even said so
5. same design almost exactly
6. they are always faster, every time no exceptions so nothing to see here
7. Yeah wifi, no one else has that
8. battery life, yet to be seen
9. better siri, good as google voice now, almost
10. voice calling, good they finally caught up to my old windows mobile pda phone from 2005, great job apple
11. yep no nfc

FAIL

It is larger and has a metal back, therefore it IS a different design. As to the battery, Apple says it is better can you prove them wrong?

Here, have a look at the Galaxy range of phones. I would hardly call them design changes either....

I hope that's not the case. Probably true though.
