It doesn't matter what changes/improvements were made to the iPhone many folks will not be satisfied and will come up with any excuse to discredit the product. Remember also that the number of folks on this forum when compared to the number of iPhone owners is a drop in the bucket and does not represent the vast majority.
I did not upgrade my iPhone 4 to the 4s but will pre-order the iPhone 5. I love the form factor (don't like bricks) and all of the apps that are available. The ability to automatically sync through iCloud to my MBP, iMac, iPhone and iPad keeps everything up to date. Yes, I drank the Apple cool-aid about 5 1/2 years ago. I like my cool-aid, you may drink whatever you want:D. As my wife's t-shirt says "don't harsh my mellow":)

The screen isn't wider, the software isn't much improved, no NFC, battery life is the same (I'd rather have the same thickness as the iPhone 4 with a bigger battery inside than get the same battery life with LTE)

Dude, you havent sat with the phone an hour, day, or week to confirm the batter life is the same. Stop.

NFC is in it's infancy, and not many vendors even USE it currently which is why it's not even implemented yet.

Software not improved? Did you just wake from a nap?

I've come to expect Apple's keynotes to not be groundbreaking but rather announcements of maintenance Apple does to their product line-up. And that's what we saw today: maintenance. They really couldn't be the world's most valuable company by market evaluation and let their products languish another day. And so it seems like these events are more like a chore now to bring their products up to date just enough—but nothing more.

I'm not saying they're like my electric company, but the only time my electric company makes an announcement to the public is when they tell us when the power will come back on (it goes out a lot where I live). Apple's not at that point at all. It's just more toward that end of the spectrum than it used to be.

Apple's on a 3yr "change the game" cycle. 2007 iPhone, 2010 iPad, in 2013 it'll be something else entirely different. Everything else, the existing products, will get these "incremental" upgrades as that's all they need to maintain sales. Apple doesn't make money unless they reinvent a category, even if it means their invention will cannibalize sales of their existing products. That's how they push things forward. In other words don't expect another revolutionary iPhone or iPad from Apple, it's not going to happen.

Apple, can I get the new "earpods" in black please? LOL nevermind, I am sure they will be just as bad as they always are. There is a reason there is a huge aftermarket for earbuds.

I think it looks great. I think people get their hopes up too much and read too much into the rumors and then end up expecting some revolutionary device with all these crazy features.

I, on the other hand am sticking with my 4S because I still have over a year on my contract. And it's a beast of a phone. Can't believe that the 5 is 2x faster than the 4S! My 4S is so fast! The 5 must be lightning fast.

Can't wait to play with my friends 5.

Apple's own specs confirm its the same.

NFC is fine to leave out but to not let people share content via Bluetooth ever 5 years now? Come on.

Yes, the software is not much improved. The only big feature in iOS6 is Maps.

Is it just me, or do the new ear buds look extremely uncomfortable? I'm not to sure about the shape..

The discontent with this product is much higher than when Apple released the iPhone 4.

I'm happy with the update. Then again, I have the iPhone 4, so it's like I'm getting double the features. Unfortunately, the iPhone is a mature product now, and I don't really look for anything groundbreaking with these updates.

you can never please people smh.. always 50-50

This.

People are generally crybabies I'm noticing.

Yet again Apple makes a much nicer phone than anything out there yet people on this thread make the iPhone sound like a horrible piece of trash made by a knockoff company.

Really? Please point us to sources.

As usual it'll sell out like crazy.

Man, some of you will never be happy. I don't know what more I could want from this iPhone. Sheesh.
Wider screen, a true HD resolution, Internet calling much like Facetime but voice only, iOS6 that has more than just Maps as a big feature, a notification LED, just to name a few.

Admittedly I was hoping for something like this:

This is the first iPhone I hesitate to purchase. I use my phone one handed and a taller screen does NOT help.

Numbers don't lie, 50% of people are disappointed with the ip5, the worst thing is people will still buy the thing in droves justifying Apples decision to half ass the ip5.

Man, some of you will never be happy. I don't know what more I could want from this iPhone. Sheesh.

4.8 inches and be able to theme in a nutshell.

How is it half the devices that come out on Android can't use the firmware?

But the last THREE series of the iphone can run ios6?

You gotta think.. in 2010 Android released 2.0 OS system..

Most people have two year contracts.. That's a good 60% of y'all phones NOT being able to use most recent software.

But you got it.

Im happy with the product apple puts out. I call it a yearly ME gift at this point.

Apple, where is the innovation? Where are the new features to wow everyone? Hell, where is the HD display nearly every other flagship phone has or is getting in the next few months? Samsung has clearly taken over.

Wider screen? Because 16:9 is such a terrible aspect ratio, hmm?

A true HD resolution...man, you must be dying with that 326 ppi. Those pixels must be glaringly awful to look at - if only you could see them, you'd agree.

Internet calling much like FaceTime...so you want Skype? Why get an iPhone then if you're not going to call and would rather VOIP? I'm confused.

I fail to see how iOS 6 and the iPhone 5 are tied together, and that any gripes with iOS 6 translate to the iPhone 5 being disappointing.

A notification LED...you already got one. If you don't like it, there's a BlackBerry with a big glaring one on the front.

They can. All recent Android phones in the past 2 years can run Jelly Bean just fine. It's just that when you have different manufacturers, not all of them want to roll out the latest software for their hardware. You have to understand that there's hundreds of different kinds of hardware and one software base. It takes a lot of time to keep them all up to date so many of them don't bother.

This isn't a defect with Android, its a defect with manufacturers. Just get a Nexus and you'll never have a problem.

NFC is useful for more than just payments. It can be used to scan NFC tags, or communicate between devices.

What.

A true HD resolution...man, you must be dying with that 326 ppi. Those pixels must be glaringly awful to look at - if only you could see them, you'd agree.
I see people in Apple stores putting on glasses to read the text on the iPhone so yeah, having a bigger screen does make a difference. Size matters.

A true HD resolution is always better than this 1136 crap.

Internet calling much like FaceTime...so you want Skype? Why get an iPhone then if you're not going to call and would rather VOIP? I'm confused.
Choice is key. You like iMessage don't you? Why do you use it if you can text? You should tell Apple to get rid of iMessage.

Having both VOIP and carrier calling integrated seamlessly into a phone would be fantastic. Get over yourself.

I fail to see how iOS 6 and the iPhone 5 are tied together, and that any gripes with iOS 6 translate to the iPhone 5 being disappointing.
If you fail to see that, then you really fail at a lot of things.

A notification LED...you already got one. If you don't like it, there's a BlackBerry with a big glaring one on the front.
You know very well that Blackberry isn't the only phone that has it now and it certainly doesn't glare.

Enjoy having to check your iPhone over and over and over and over to see if you have new messages when there aren't any because you have no way to see if you have any due to the lack of a notifier. :D

You must not understand how things work. You can pack a million pixels into a 640 display and it will never become HD. Sorry but a higher resolution 1280x720 HD display at 306ppi on the S3 is superior to 326ppi on a 1136x640 non HD display. Next.
