Given that I can do everything with a ‘long press’ on my iPhone SE, that uses ‘3D Touch’ on the latest iPhones, is it actually needed?

No. Long pressing on Android Oreo brings 3D Touch like features to Android (app shortcuts, notifications, etc.). I was really hoping Apple would really explore 3D touch more or at least open up the customization of it a bit more. Because I constantly say to myself, this could be accomplished with a long press.

You can't do everything with long press. In my opinion, the greatest feature of 3D touch is the ability to control a precise text cursor by 3D touching the keyboard. Setting the text cursor to a preferred position in a text field was a pain for me pre-3D touch
Even that doesn't work all that well. Many times I've used 3D touch to move the cursor exactly where I want it only to see it jump over 2 spots.

I'm actually completely onboard with Ming on this one. The 6.1" LCD will sell like wildfire if priced correctly. This will be the replacement for my wife's 7+. :apple:

Cursor positioning via a long-press on the keyboard (or another gesture) could easily be implemented by Apple if they chose to do so. It's not something that's uniquely intuitive to 3D Touch.

What's different with this versus the standard magnification method?

So they're going to force everyone to move to a notch? Seems like a bold move. I didn't get a 8X, I got the 8 plus, because I wasn't feeling the notch. I guess if I want a new iPhone, it'll be get with the notch or move on. That's real courage!

I still think the lack of 3D touch is either completely wrong or if true, would be a massive misstep from Apple.

It's a core feature of the OS at this point.

70% of iPhone users could care less about 3D Touch. Including myself on my 8+. :apple:

The notch will be a bit smaller. It's not that bad. I simply want an LCD phone until Micro LED is ready for prime time. OLED does nothing for me over Apple's outstanding LCD Displays. :apple:

No 3D Touch basically debunked this assumption, if anything, Apple will want to 3D Touch everything and that means the iPad as well, not removing it cause of cost.
3D touch is apparently limited to small display sizes. Attempts to use the existing tech on larger screens results in wonky behavior. Wait a minute -- that describes most of Apple's latest OS tweaks -- bring it on!

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo today shared shipment projections with MacRumors

[OOT] Well, MacRumors editorial can obtain pretty accurate rumors in the past from KGI, since Mr. Kuo have pretty usually accurate result for upcoming hardware rumor especially for iOS device/MacBooks , can he give some information about Mac Pro development? Mac Mini is also welcome.

(again sorry for out of topics lol) just curious when KGI can predict iPhone and MacBooks, why not the most outdated machine aren't mentioned.

That would be bizarre as hell removing that. Now with Apple, you must compromise on features!

They are calling people's bluff! Do folks hate Android more than the Notchlife?

Dark UI, we've had the candy coloured, eye-watering festival of girliness for way too long. I'd love to see a slick, dark UI scheme with toned down colours and instead greys and transparency. Please, all the men in the world are crying out for a dark theme for iOS.

My iPhone looked the best back when iOS had a bug that allowed one to set a single black pixel as the background, allowing for the dock bar and folder backgrounds to be black. EVERYTHING was black (including my iPhone) and it looked sweet. Then, as usual, Apple had to be a buzz-kill and fix the bug. That was about as "Android" Apple ever got to customizing the screen. Now, everyone's looks the same.

RIght.

They should never introduce a new phone without it.
And see about adding it to iPads at this point. All of their touch devices should have pressure sensitivity.

No more iPhone's for me until Apple gets serious with software. IOS is in dire need of a complete reboot. Enough with the nonsense animated emoji's.. where's the innovation in that? Oh right.. kids love them so of course it's amazing to us all. AGH! Number 1 complaint I hear when I go to keynotes, Apple has lost their way when it comes to software innovation. Umm.. YUUUPPPP!! And I love Apple products!! But there's zero reason to buy a new iphone or ipad from them until they get with the program and start making changes to the OS that benefit all end users, not just a select few of them.

Does this mean the end of TouchID on future flagship devices? I guess I will be holding onto my 7+ for many years to come.

Rolling out a 6.1" model without 3D Touch would be akin to Apple waving the white flag on the feature (which I like and use daily). I don't see that happening. Surely the pennies that features adds to each device (when scaled to 100 million units of production) is not worth the hassle.

I’m sure the 6.1” will appeal to many, but having an 8+ currently, no dual camera will be a no buy for me. I use 3D Touch enough to where I wouldn’t want to go back to not having it, but the real deal breaker is the lack of dual camera.

After using a 6 Plus, 7 Plus, and X, I can't imagine going back to a larger phone
A phone with a large screen doesn't have to be big.

Frankly, I find the iPhone Plus models to be very clumsy. My Galaxy S6 Edge + has a high DPI OLED screen that's larger than the LCD on the iPhone 7 Plus. Yet the Samsung has a smaller footprint and is lighter. Any tie I pick up a friend's Plus sized phone I'm surprised by how much sleeker and lighter my phone is.

Thanks to reduced bezles, I'm confident that a plus sized version of the X will not be as clumsy and brick-like as an iPhone 8 Plus.

If this is true Apple has effectively dropped a feature and admitted it's unnecessary and long press gets the job done.
Nope, just following the same pattern set with the SE. non-flagships don’t get flagship features.

Long Press pales in comparison to 3DT, which is what I said above. So the new lcd iPhones (thankfully Apple has produced a good non-oled model), the compromise is no 3dt.

Finally, it was my time to pick up an iPhone X via apple upgrade program and I have to admit that I was hesitant because of the posts and now I believe the negative posts are from either people who demand too much for today or Trolls. Love the face Id and swipe to close. I do have one complaint to apple - It's too well made and quite slippery to handle or even leave on a piece of furniture, this phone has legs and moves all on it's own. Searching for a nice clear case today.
