How is the 8 Plus a flagship at $799 while the 6.1 isn’t at the same price?
How can the Galaxy 8 and the Note be flagships when they aren’t the same price?

I’m not sure what you’re trying to ask here to be honest.

You can't do everything with long press. In my opinion, the greatest feature of 3D touch is the ability to control a precise text cursor by 3D touching the keyboard. Setting the text cursor to a preferred position in a text field was a pain for me pre-3D touch
Cursor positioning via a long-press on the keyboard (or another gesture) could easily be implemented by Apple if they chose to do so. It's not something that's uniquely intuitive to 3D Touch.
That's actually available on the iPad which doesn't have 3D Touch. It's activated by holding 2 fingers on the keyboard, they could have done the same on the iPhone.

When Apple introduced the iPhone 5s, with the mobile industry's first-ever 64-bit processor, it surprised the entire mobile industry ... it took Qualcomm over a year to produce it's first credible 64-bit processor, and Apple was able to capitalize on that when the "6" was announced.

I was working at Qualcomm on their Snapdragon line when the 5s was announced, so I know first-hand just how much of a shock it was to the entire mobile industry.

10-bit color is just-about to hit the mobile industry ... if Samsung gets there first (via their S9 & S9+), Apple "may" need to scramble (I say may because I believe they support 10-bit capture internally, just haven't yet offered it up to third-party Apple App Devs).

Very specifically, if Samsung announces support for 10-bit extended color space capture & display later this month, every single iPhone in existence will IMMEDIATELY lose it's luster !

Apple's market cap will tank, and Samsung will be the talk of the town until Apple catches up.

Apple should have gone DEEP & WIDE color at the exact same time (at the intro of the iPhone 7 family) ... instead, they just went WIDE.

Apple should have NEVER transitioned away from including a Hardware Home Button, as now, Users have NO efficient mechanism to manually manage their DRAM.

It sure would be nice if those who write for MacRumors would point out some of the very obvious deficiencies in Apple's products ... Apple's upper mgmt generally sucks at product planning !

10-bit extended color space capture & display is a much BIGGER deal than anything Apple has done since the A7 processor was first introduced ! ... HEVC-encoded BGRA photo content, packaged in HEIF containers, and ultimately called HEIC photos, is what makes it possible, and Apple has support for all this in new iPhones & iPads (so what's the hold-up Mr. Tim Cook ?).

really you sound like the ANALyst that said Apple will go out business if they didn't' release a watch in the next 60 days.
IMO - Apple is going nowhere - Apple customers (or fanboys if you want to call them that way) only care about Apple products and it is very unlikely they will switch to a competitor over any particular technology.

So, what is the difference between Asus rumored zen phone 5 with a notch and this rumored apple 6.1" phone again?

I would go for the new iPhone LCD models. For me, anyway 10 bit extended color space doesn’t add anything to the phone.

You would have to ask Apple. Why isn’t the SE a flagship? Because to keep the price down some compromises were made. Seems like there were fewer compromises in the 8 than the 6.1.

Still waiting for an Apple Flip Phone!

Self-contained; droppable without breakage; no need for a case; flip open a la Star Trek communicator (or left-right; offer choice); and could even have 3 screens—2 on the inside (top & bottom; or left and right— so you could run 2 apps in each window or park a larger keyboard in one) and even an Apple Watch type display on the outside!

Dreaming, but it sure would introduce some real excitement — and INNOVATION!

So Apple is going to sell 150 million iPhone in mid-September to end of year when before the most they ever sold was 80 million in the same time period? Do these analysts realize that the world is post-peak Apple? Yes they will probably sell 80 million iPhones in that same period this year and next year, but come on...

I suspect that's true. I use it only infrequently, but I'd probably be cheesed if it disappears.

'Cheesed?" Same context as "irritated", or "livid?" :apple:

Super Flagship. I'd hold on to one. Could become a collectors item. No S model this year. 6.1 LCD takes it's place and the 7/7+/SE become the entry points. I may be off, but if not mine will be discharged, sealed back in it's original packaging and placed in the "Archive Room." ;)

Ummm... the article specifically states that the 100 million number is for the "model year" so roughly from Q4 2018 to Q3 2019. While Q4 is definitely the highest iPhone sales quarter it is not the only that iPhones are sold in.

Could someone please explain to the dumbasses at Apple that all they had to do was take the same screen size that was in the iPhone 6,7,8 Plus and make it bezel-less?! That’s it! Huge screen real-estate... much smaller phone. Assuming these rumors are true... they did just that with the 6.1 screen... but then went ahead and dumbed it down with inferior specs so you have to buy the "too small" iPhone X or the "too big" iPhone X Plus... or whatever they'll call it. Genius.

Lighting needs to go in favour of USBC, then hopefully we can all settle on a headphone standard that will be on all devices regardless of make from laptops to tablets and phones. Every new phone and PC has the jack now, so the switch won't be that bad and i'm sure an adapter could be made that sits flush for all hold outs.

The idea is not replace a port with another one (makes no sense at this time and age), but to remove cables once for all. The future is wire-less, what you propose is a dated idea. We should be looking forward to new wireless technologies, not the other way around.

Apple dabbing in the Frame Material market which is better. They go back and forth with devices like a frog on a pad.

IDark UI, we've had the candy coloured, eye-watering festival of girliness for way too long. I'd love to see a slick, dark UI scheme with toned down colours and instead greys and transparency. Please, all the men in the world are crying out for a dark theme for iOS.

All the men in the world? Not me though. Count me out. I'm still happily toting my rose gold MacBook along with matching white-pink wallpaper and going to work in a bright pastel-colored polo shirt with beige chinos. :D
You don't have to go monochrome to be manly. Life has so many colors, so why limiting your fashion choice with just monochrome?

Manliness argumentation aside, for me darkUI is a necessity to ease nightime usage while still maintaining color accuracy. Not everyone loves their off-color, so-called Night Shift mode.

But the price isn’t down. It’s the exact same usual price we have been used to for years. This 6.1 is just a 2014 IPhone 6 Plus with a new CPU,more RAM and FaceID and an inferior display.

No, the display is bigger with less bezels. Similar to the SE being the size of the iphone 5/5s with upgraded internals. There is no dual camera lens as in the iphone 8. So apple created a phone with a larger lcd display, but less hardware than the flagships, which in September was the iphone 8/8+/X. So this phone follows a similar pattern and is not a flagship.

Wow, that's really stupid.

I have no desire to use Face ID. I don't want OLED, LCD is great. But I do appreciate a good camera, and the home button is very good technology that should be kept, and force touch is pretty cool.

So, how about a thicker phone (maybe even as much as a quarter inch) with a great processor, a huge battery (I know a quickly replaceable one so I can have one battery charging while one is on the phone is too much to ask for at this point, never mind that the technology to do so is readily available and very mature, and it would be incredibly easy for Apple to do) with great cameras and no stupid camera bump, a home button, and an LED screen without the silly notch?

Its not bigger. Its uses a 18:9 aspect ratio which means effectively the same screen area as the 8 Plus. The 6.4 OLED iPhone is the only iPhone which has a bigger display.

iPhone X~ iPhone 8
iPhone 6.1~ iPhone 8 Plus

Its even inferior to the current 8 Plus in many ways. It lacks dual cameras, lacks 3D Touch, the display quality is a downgraded TFT. Its bascially a 2014 6 Plus with no bezels, and a spec bump and an inferior display. Even the iPhone 7 Plus is superior to it and costs the same as before

Your basically proving the point it’s not a flagship and therefore similar to the iPhone SE it will be missing hardware. However the soc will blow the 7 out if the water.

Yeah, shame about the software, though.

I can’t figure out why I don’t like Android. I think the idea of more customization should draw me to it, but it doesn’t. Every time I use one, I always go crawling back to my iPhone.

3D Touch doesn’t necessarily have to be “needed” to be favored though. I think 3D Touch is a really convenient feature to have and is a shortcut versus navigating throughout the whole application. The Issue is Apple does not market 3D Touch enough for others to really take notice and appreciate it.
Yeah, I have an 8Plus, but I’m not really sure exactly what 3D Touch does. It’s not incorporated into my typical uses of my phone.
