Think I’ll stick with my master and dynamic mw60’s. Not a fan of apple’s styling approach to ear-related products.

Can't wait to see a JetBlack version.

Why wait for any color: http://www.colorware.com/p-743-apple-airpods.aspx

Let’s be real here. By going by apple’s recent track record, we won’t see these in 2018. No doubt they will be delayed, like pretty much every product they announce.
Delayed in the sense that it won’t make the timeline an analyst that doesn’t work for Apple has laid out?

Your statement doesn't make sense. Yes, it will be nice competitor, and there is no but. It will work on all bluetooth devices. Yes, it will work better with Apple devices, but that in no way makes it any less of a competitor to standard Bluetooth headphones. Do standard headphones have anything these lack?

If I'm not mistaken, the W* chipset features are exclusive to Apple devices? If so, you'd be paying a premium for a feature you wouldn't use.

By competitor, I mean to fidelity headphones. I have AKG, AudioQuest, Audeze, and Shure headphones. I'm looking for a quality wireless headphone with the similar fidelity as above that is not BOSE, has decent battery life, and lastly has GOOD wireless non BT mic. The third is a wish, but not a req.

It's a pipe dream, but maybe Apple will create open back wireless headphones?

People who claim to be audiophiles still bitch and complain about the HomePod constantly. Most of them have never even heard it.
Yes, but some have. I am not a crazy audiophile but have had a quality stereo system for years.
I listened to it and while it sounds pretty good for a small wireless speaker it’s not revolutionary sound. It’s not audiophile quality sound. Not even close.

HeadPods....how could you miss HeadPods!
EarPods

I think if they can do something with these headphones akin to whatever they have done with software for the HomePod, and sell them at a comparative price to current high end headphones they could do as well as the HomePod certainly.

I'm sure I say something recently about some new headphones that were supposed to be revolutionary in some way in how they sounded, but I can't recall their name now.

Also, with all this emphasis on music, and quality, combined with massive data farms and improvement in 4G speeds etc, maybe we'll finally get lossless?

I think that misses the point though.

I don't think Apple, or anyone else, is claiming that the HomePod is going to compete with expensive high end audiophile equipment.

The point is that the HomePod can put out surprisingly good sounding quality for a single speaker of its size, and at its price point. Which certainly seems to compare favourably with other kit up to the level of something around the Sonos Play 3 or Play 5.

You are correct but some here insist it is audiophile quality sound. Haha

Needs a lot more volume too. Is a great background music speaker.

I think a lot of it depends on what you're used to listening on. I'm really impressed with the HomePod, but I've never had high end kit, and its a long time since I had modest separates.

To be fair I think it gets louder than background music. It sits near our dining table, and if it was up at around 80% it would easily be too loud to have a conversation sat at the table.

Come on someone......

Please do a funny Photoshop, showing two Homepods as headphones being worn :)

So you think the engineers working on these headphones are the same ones who work on Macs, and they dropped what they were doing to focus on headphones?

Perfectly logical.

These days the way Apple seems to be able to only focus on one thing at a time, the answer is YES. It really seems with the quality problems at Apple, the late products, and the product design inconsistency, that Apple only has a few people that know how to do things right and they shuffle from design team to design team.

The product inconsistency occurs when Apple tries to release when its good designers are working on something else.
