Was very interested in upgrading to the new phones. Now I will wait longer. Problems with force touch will probably continue for sometime. Apple will fix it for sure, not sure I want to be a test subject. Bummer.

Yeah! 32 is the sweetspot for almost all users. And apple knows that. If they'd make the base model 32GB almost nobody will spend $100 extra.

I'm afraid the base model will be 32GB when most users will be used to have 64GB, so they will continue to buy that tier.

They wouldn't make more money, they'd make much much less. People would settle for 32GB and not spend the extra cash on the next model up.

We will have to wait and see what kind of press they get out of this. I can already see the commercials their competitors are putting together on this. They are going to lose some market share over this. It's a bad bad decision.

People said that last year. Record sales. And the year before. Again record sales. And the year before, and the year before...

Don't get me wrong. I love Apple products, especially the iPhone but this isn't good.

Samsung Galaxy S6 user, "Do you want to look at my photo album on my phone. I have 500 very nice pictures".
iPhone 6s user with 16Gb, "Oh, well look at the 3 photos on my phone. I could only get 3 because I ran out of memory".

Don't buy it then.
Yes, I spend $100 more for iPhone 6 since apple innovation cannot double the memory from 16GB to 32GB.

seriously? few guys make millions of dollar and still cannot have 32GB as base? we are not asking to cut profit but merely making the $649 iPhone more than useful.

what goes around what comes around, lolz!

My entire family and my gf (7 people) have 16gb iPhones and not a single one of them has issues with it. I recognized that I would use more storage and got a 64gb model. 16gb is fine for most people and there are larger storage options for those that want it.

16GB for $649 not good, do not be blind. Sites like theverge never says out loud. journalist are so pathetic. The score higher for iPhone always not even point out the base model flaw.

To all the people defending this I have a 16gb iPhone 6 and its enough for me...however my phone can't take 4k video. If this new phone shoots in 4k you are going to fill the entire 16gb with like a three minute of video if and that would be assuming that the OS took up no space

My entire family got 16gb iPhones and are always bugging me to help them clear out their space. I cannot afford to upgrade 5 phones to the 64gb. Please Apple, to a company making billions of profit each quarter, a little help here to a middle class american living from pay check to pay check.

Actually 16GB is enough for 4000 12MP photos.

At the end of the day it's annoying, yes, but it's the users own fault if they bought a product that doesn't suit their needs.

that is fine, what about apps, videos, movies ...

for all practical purpose 16Gb is not that enough. lots of people got into problem upgrading the iOS, remember?

Hmmm. This is nothing more than a marketing move. Apple know how to make money.

It's not as if you're forced to buy iPhone, but if you want to buy one then it's a small irritant but easily resolved by just buying the next tier up if 16GB isn't enough for you.

Up to you to upgrade, but Force touch will probably be like the 5 finger swipe in the iPads -you used them if you want to or disregard.

Why do you defend Apple in this? I don't understand. Do you work for them? I have a family plan with 5 phones and cannot afford to upgrade to the 64GB phone. Apple makes billions each quarter and could help their customer base by making the right decision here. I've been loyal to them for 12 years, how about giving back a bit (like $1) to help their loyal customers.

What typically happens to the pricing of the old phone (6) when a new phone is released (6s)?

Go to the store and look at the 5s and 5c. What happened to them after Apple introduced the 6.

http://www.apple.com/iphone/compare/

When the 5s was introduced it has three memory options ( 16 , 32 , 64 )

https://support.apple.com/kb/SP685?locale=en_US

Apple trimmed off the top configuration. They dropped the pricing by the typical Apple adjustment of $100 increment ( 2013 16GB non contract price was around $649. Now it is $549. ) .

similarly the 5c (largely an iPhone 5 in a different container) when introduced has 16GB and 32GB (https://support.apple.com/kb/SP684?locale=en_US )
Now can't find anything higher than 8GB. Even at 8GB it is still $450. ( again about a $100 delta between it and the next less oldest model, 5s )

This is not really surprising. Many business and entry level users don't need more than 16Gb and it keeps costs down. One thing that irks me though is that they do not include a 32Gb version. By now it should cost the same as a 16Gb chip 4 years ago, so they could (if they would be willing to take the profitability hit) make the base model 16Gb 50$ cheaper and the 32Gb model at the current entry price. But I guess Apple is not willing to do that. A pity.

32gig is all I buy. It is the sweet spot. 16gig is a joke and 64gig is only for the rich(er) or the foolish.

I bet Apple knows 32gig is the sweet spot for many consumers, especially current iPhone customers who've made this choice in the past. 16gig is really for new users who don't understand how pathetically small that is, and can carry switcher pricing. So by dropping 32gig they hope to push upgraders to 64 gig and charge them through the teeth for it.

16's more than enough, i've never gone past 60% capacity i don't understand why people need 64 and 128 on a damn phone, there's just no need.

those are the ones that stay glued to it and are anti-social imo

You must not shoot very much video then.
