16's more than enough, i've never gone past 60% capacity i don't understand why people need 64 and 128 on a damn phone, there's just no need.

those are the ones that stay glued to it and are anti-social imo

1)You're wrong.
2)You're wrong.
3)Take a stab at it .. you're wrong.

I utilize a lot of my storage on the 64gb model for music and I am extremely social and outgoing. Generalizations are stupid. Stop doing it.

It's not about saving costs of using 32 GB over 16GB.
It's about keeping the ASP high when most consumers opt to spend $299 vs $199.

What's wrong with the 16?

16GB is a slap in the face to anyone who actually uses their phone. 32GB should be the minimum in this day and age. 16GB would never last for recording 4k video's let alone regular HD video's. Not to mention a lot of good games these day's are getting to be in the 1-3 GB size. That with an OS that takes up 1/3 of the space your left with really only about 10GB usable.

Apple just like sticking us in our ass knowing 16GB is unusable then charging a totally insane 100 dollars for the upgrade to the 64GB model. Apple sure knows how to screw over hard their fans, and we all take it :(

Well it's clear that the forum is going to get divided between 16GB isn't enough and 16GB is more than enough.

I think a more accurate description would be that the forum is divided between those who object to paying $100 for the extra memory, and those who just don't care. The first group comes up with all sorts of passive-aggressive ways to avoid saying they don't want to pay a few extra bucks, such as: "Apple is greedy!", "16GB is UNACCEPTABLE", "Apple is anti-consumer"; but in reality it's all about a few bucks coming out of their own pockets, and they don't want to own up to that. We live in an age where many people are unwilling to own up to their own decisions and responsibilities, and so project a lot of their own personal issues into ill-will by others.

This is why Americans failed in education especially math: 16GB -> 32GB is better deal than 16GB->64GB for $100.

It is really not about math. Most of the folks complaining really want cheaper 16GB offerings and most likely a 32GB slotted into the same price point as the 16GB is now. Mathematics isn't so much of a problem as much as directly expressing what they actually want.

What Apple could use is a more affordable iPhone, but one that isn't kneecapped on Flash to get there. When Apple takes "last year's phone" and kneecaps it back to 8GB folks get whacked about what role Flash storage is playing in phone prices. Apple is more so trying to keep folks off a reasonable good phone by dropping "last year's" to just 8GB. I don't think that game is going to work so well without the "subsidy" pricing. $400-450 for 8GB phone is kind of looney. That is more so keeping phone entry prices high more so than the 16GB - 32GB gap.

I personally have always had 16GB iPhones, mainly because my heavy iOS usage is on an iPad, which I have a 64GB model of.

I'm not someone who hoards photos, I know a lot of people do though (one woman in my office couldn't upgrade to
iOS 8 because her phone was full of over 2000 photos. Madness).

Apps wise on my phone I always have my social apps, score update apps and sports news apps, and some retro games like the Sonic titles to pass some time.

I can however see why with a larger device like the 6 Plus, which many use to replace their tablet, why 16GB would be considered insufficient.

For what it's worth, Sony released three new models at IFA yesterday; all with 32 GB base storage (unless I'm mistaken).

RAM = Random Access Memory. That is NOT storage capacity. The iPhone currently has 1GB of RAM.

There's a difference between cheap storage (typically found in SD cards and flash drives) and what Apple uses for storage. The differences are in performance. You can't get high performance storage for a couple dollars. Generic SD cards/expandable storage are HORRID for high quality video, and can't usually record anything better than 720p, if you're lucky. Forget about 4K.

If you want an idea of GOOD performing storage, and the prices it commands, take a look at this SD card at Best Buy...

Granted, it's currently on sale dirt cheap for $58

This 128GB card is $300. Suddenly, Apple's prices don't seem so bad after all.

Yes - storage - sorry - I shouldn't have used the term RAM (especially when I work in IT).

At any rate, I'd suggest that the cost of moving from 16 GB to 32 GB could be handled at the current price point. Numerous studies have been done regarding the cost of the components in the iPhone and it shows that storage is only a few dollars and margins start at 65%, going up significantly for the larger storage capacity models.

Samsung finally woke up to what Apple was doing and took out the SD card slots and went with non-removable batteries and non-upgradable memory.
And look how well it's working for them!

Samsung are DUMB for doing this, because they have a lot of direct competition. Apple, on the other hand, can do it, because they have no direct competition. There are no other phones running iOS. And I agree with the others who wrote 16GB is really a marketing gimmick. Apple can advertise their phones as "starting at $199", while at the same time forcing many users to buy the $299 model anyway.

AND microSD slots.

If the 16Gb rumors are true, and there are enough of them right now so it is probably so, this is going to hurt Apple. Whatever the reason this is a horrible marketing decision. With the new iPhone 6s it isn't going to be a antennagate or bendgate type of thing giving bad press, it is going to be the decision to continue with 16 Gb on a phone with a 12MP 4K camera that is going to give them bad press.

Why why why Apple do you sometimes do these stupid decisions? Pay me 10% of what you are paying these high paying people making these asinine decisions and I'll make the correct decisions for you.

look at it this way, for $100 more you would get twice the storage from 32GB to 64GB.
Let Apple handle all the backlash from people who buy 16GB iphone and dont have space record 4K video more than an hour.

For me, the iphone just got more expensive by $100.

Incorrect. I complain about the base storage of 16 GB, but I purchase the 64 GB model. It is a philosophical issue that the 16 GB doesn't fit Apples core values.

And you'd advise them to make less profit? You'd be laughed out of the room!
