Every year it's the same issue. At this point it's obvious Apple does this on purpose. They know that iphone x was going to be a hit because of the design change. They should make sure there are enough iphones to go around.

I can see orders slipping in to January when you consider that things generally shut down for two weeks over the Xmas period
Not in China they don't, and that's where they make them. They are be going balls to the wall from now until Chinese New Year and that's not until mid Feb.

if they're really manufaturing 400k per week atm they're not up to 100% yet as they can probably go up to 400k per day if they have enough parts

That's ok, prices for 49+ countries (i.e. outside the US) are so outrageous that very few people will be able to afford one. So they don't need to make that many.
Don't be so sure about that. Here in Switzerland it's only marginally higher than in the US (our prices include the sales tax). Also a lot of phones are subsidized here in Switzerland (together with a contract). And also; the wages in the other countries are also higher. So they will need to make many phones.

I have a 7 Plus that I'm really happy with but I know I'm going to end up pre-ordering the 256GB X. It's just an amazing phone. I've already tried out the 8 Plus at an Apple store in Frankfurt and the speed of the A11 Bionic with iOS 11 is really a step up from the 7 Plus. I can only imagine how good the experience will be with that gorgeous OLED display. I'll keep it for a couple of years.

The same constraints as other phones in other words. Better o/s is the difference. But your analogy is similar to cars right? All cars break when you crash them.
Except that Apple has 50x their budgets, 10.000's patents and 1000 labs to stay upfront.
Cars provided with glass rearsides certainly will.

My 7+ has recently been plagued by safari constantly freezing... the home button has allowed me to close it. Gestures anywhere on the screen did not work. I really would be worried about a phone that doesn't have a physical button.... I guess that's just me though.
So you think the 7+ has a physical home button? Think again :) But I too have had the freezing Safari and also slow "forward to iMessage" problems lately. An iOS 11 thing? Can't remember if I had on the iOS10 i September.

Agreed. Price is all the talk, but it doesn’t really matter to folks who finance their iPhone purchase. Almost everyone I know who own an iPhone is already on a monthly payment plan. The monthly cost difference for an iPhone X vs. an iPhone 8 is only $10. $10 a month is something most upgrade faithful will find a way to make happen.

At £1000 it's certainly not(ch) a sensible purchase for most folks. Trouser swaggerers. Geekthusiasts and those with jackets weighted down with coinage will hurry to the sales counter before asking the price. It's the 'normals' who will have to apply logic, personal finances and objectivity to whether their Facebook 'friends' will be sufficiently impressed enough when they boast up their latest chat and photo machine.

"Hey guys. Just bought my iPhone X for like £1200 and the reflections off the screen caused by the baking Florida sun is glinting in my eyes. It's SO unfair."

Exactly. From all my family and friends am I the only one that pays their phone upfront (we don't that the iUP here in Switzerland). All carriers here have a monthly installment plan so when you want a the iPhone X it won't hurt as much.

Is it possible it’s 2-3MM for walk ins?
There are countless possibilities. But I think there are several options here:

1.) 2-3 Mio. is bogus coming from KGI. (most likely)
2.) 2-3 Mio. is meant to be delivered to the stores around the world for walk-ins (not very likely)
3.) 2-3 Mio. is only meant for a specific country. U.S. for example. (also likely)
4.) KGI is right and we are all screwed (unlikely)

The iphone x is a transitional device for the supply chain . It prepares the supply chain to mass produce newer and more advanced tech in future products. The flexible pcb, and camera/faceid tech is first and will catch up in a few months.

You're right that production of these things is ramping up, with the face recog parts largely due to Apple's immediate needs.

However, rigid-flexible is not new. Samsung has been making them for years. The Galaxy S8 has one with five rigid boards connected by flexible lines, for example.

Heck, last year Patently Apple predicted that the iPhone X would be using R-F circuit boards from Samsung or another Korean source.

Apple simply chose a Japanese R-F board maker who wasn't up to snuff yet.

As for the facial pieces, many of those suppliers are also making the same for the 3D sensing system that Qualcomm announced in summer. In this case, a rising tide will lift all boats.

That notch.. really. Never buying it with the notch. Bad design. Steve would NEVER release this!
How would you know what steve would or wouldn't do? Apple has been without Steve's leadership for 5 years. There is no way of knowing how Steve would act now.
It was clear that Steve thought that the iPhone 5 screen size was enough. And he was clearly wrong about that. We don't know if we would ever have gotten a Plus size phone under steves leader ship. And let's not forget MoblieMe and the Antennagate. Steve was brilliant but he was nowhere near perfect.

Wages are higher in the US than in the vast majority of rich countries, with a few exceptions, including Switzerland, of course.

Not sure what you mean by "marginally". The base 64Gb model costs CHF1200, and since this storage is not expandable, you really need the 256Gb model if you're to use that fancy 4k@60fps, which costs CHF1400. That's Macbook Pro money, and it's a lot more expensive than the US.

If you're patient and not order it from the Apple website at launch, you can get it in the US without sales tax too, if you buy it online from another state. You cannot avoid VAT in Europe.

Who subsidises your iPhone X? Swisscom, with a subscription of 200 a month? Don't make me laugh. As far as I know nobody else gives any subsidy whatsoever.

What you can get is an interest-free loan, coupled with being tied in a contract (usually 2 years) and paying for the device in installments. Is that a good deal? I don't think so. Being able to switch networks when you need to, or indeed, terminate the contract, can save you a lot more than the foregone interest on the loan.

Whoever thinks that a CHF1400 device is cheaper because they can pay for it in installments is a fool, plain and simple, and as we know, it's a sin not to part a fool from his money - which is exactly what Apple and the carriers are doing here with these "deals".

Most people in Switzerland aren't fools though. I don't think it will sell well here, or anywhere else in Europe for that matter. It's a Vertu-like status symbol after all.

I would arguee that they aren't. According to the world bank the US is only on the 8th place when comparing the GDP per capita. The following 8 countries are only marignally smaller. The US has veeery high wages (some of the highest CEO wages) which contribute to that high ranking. But yeah of course, the US has a high wage level.

Omg, just do your research and learn what happened. It would be like someone pressing the home button several times and engaging the bio lock out. It happens to me every week with the iPhone (I hold it in my palm and trigger the Touch ID), so don't act like it's a Face ID problem. The bio lock out is there for a reason and it worked like it was supposed to. End of discussion.

Seriously, if this happens to you every week, I would seek help. What's even more amazing is that several people agreed with you.

There was a pre-planned and rehearsed demonstration with the phone and he STILL couldn't get it to WORK!

Are you going to plan all your iPhone interactions now ahead of time so you do it right?

I have 3 different iPhones over the years, so I'm not an expert on them all, but I've never EVER gotten locked out of my phone through TouchID except once when I had greasy sausage fingers! LOL

I can't wait for the launch only because I want to see how quickly it drives some people mad.

Steve Jobs used to make fun of Bill Gates' failed demos. He FIRED people when that happened!

Enjoy. End of discussion.
