Sorry, but you're wrong. Forget about Touch ID and move on, Face ID is the future. It's not about embedding Touch ID under the screen, this can already be done. The problem Apple faces is trying to do that on top of the 3D Touch stack on the same display, something rivals don't have to contend with. So we may see rival displays with fingerprint recognition built-in, but it's easier for them to do with less complex displays.
There is no stop-gap when it comes to Face ID and Apple will not be abandoning it by including Touch ID in the display. Touch ID is on the way out and Face ID is here to stay and will likely replace Touch ID on all devices in the coming years. I don't know why people persist in moaning on about Touch ID coming in next years iPhone and Face ID being dropped, not going to happen.
