This whole thing seems fishy to me. I think it is cool that for once a video with a worthwhile message goes viral (42 Million views), but people should educate themselves before blindly going around youtube, twitter and facebook saying "Kony 2012."

Haters gonna hate!

It might even be true that this guys are giving themselves some incredible salaries, and that the problem in Uganda is minimal right now, but the impact that this kind of videos might have worldwide are great.

It's obvious this guy has dedicated his life to this cause. And it really seems that the results are good and positive. He might not change the world, but he is surely doing more than most (including me) are doing.

It amazes me sometimes how easily people start trying to see the bad/wrong side. Not that we should be blind and follow like sheep. But of the people who I've showed the video, most of them immediately said after seeing the "few dollars a month" part: "hah, and there's the reason behind this video! they want money for themselves!".

The thing about the Kony campaign is that it perpetuates the myth that it's easy to change the world.

All you have to do is catch Kony and everything will be hunky dorey.

I'll admit that I don't know how to fix the worlds problems, they are very complex and rooted in many flaws which are deeply sunken in human nature. Unfortunately one of those major flaws is the belief that the NEXT revolution is going to make everything magically better.

Kony is awful and arresting him will be great, but remember that Kony and his group BEGAN as a rebel organization looking to change the world for the better with a little violence (The UPDA initially had popular support).

Killing Kony =/= fixing Africa it means one evil bastard is dead.

But actually changing the world means being the change you want to see, living it. Changing the world one individual at a time, it's is a glacial process (maybe an impossible process) but it has the potential to actually change how we all think and act.

Kony 2012 is another revolution.

And as Terry Pratchett said:

"Revolutions always come around again, that's why they're called revolutions"

You either break that cycle or you become part of it.

But as many have said, making a documental about all the injustices that happen in Africa won't grab massive attention. Many of those already exist.

I agree with you that killing this guy Kony won't solve all the problems in Africa. And I think this is not what the people who made the video think. What I guess they are trying to do is to make the people who live in developed countries, realize and remember how people are living in Africa.

As for the revolution part, I'm not sure this is one. The objective is not to remove the "government or social order" in Uganda. I ma sound naive, but the objective is to make people realize we need to care about what happens in other part of the world.

But actually changing the world means being the change you want to see, living it. Changing the world one individual at a time, it's is a glacial process (maybe an impossible process) but it has the potential to actually change how we all think and act.

Completely agree. But, won't you think this video has the potential to make some people realize how bad things are outside their country? And that if many more of this videos started coming around, people would eventually learn to care about people besides them and their close friends/relatives.

I know, I know. In a couple of months everyone would have forgotten about it. Damn, I will forget about it. But I really admire when people dedicate their lives to helping people who are being abused or mistreated. And I think we should support them, not necessarily with money, but at least with actions or words.

Kony 2012 = 15 years too late.

“All of a sudden President Obama and his party are supporting the Kony 2012 movement to gain votes for his re-election”... WHAT A JOKE!

Heres a thought for everyone. Focus on American families. Start a movement for the millions of our kids that are in need. That’s what matters most.

I think people should focus on the smaller picture here. Kony is obviously a nutcase who has committed atrocities in the past. While his capture won't significantly improve the situation in middle-Africa, it'll bring this war criminal to justice.

It's a big campaign for a small end-result. But it's justice all the same.

This is a bunch of crap.

Why do people care so much about this ********? We have so many problems of our own, why should it be our problem to try to fix **** in a desert 10,000 miles away?

No wonder why our country is so screwed.

One of my friends who started being active a few days with regards to this Kony 2012 campaign is actually going to Uganda and South Sudan in 11 days for a mission trip, and has previously been to Rwanda and the Congo for the same. Believe me when I say, she is the incredibly rare exception to all the people jumping on the bandwagon.

I was impressed with this...until a few minutes ago I read somewhere that they only donate some ~33% of their profits? Not sure if that's true or not.

Even if that statistic is true, it's not important. The one that would be important is to get a hold of their audit information and see how much of their total budget goes to their programming (actual outreach/impact). Where I work (also a non-profit), it's about 75% and we're not a typical non-profit either, but that was still deemed good by our independent auditors.

Then support a non-profit organization that focuses on domestic issues. No one's forcing you to support them.

Personally, I have a mixed reaction to the movie. It's generally moving and well made, but it utilizes tactics and jumps to such simple conclusions that I can't fully support it. It is impressive how quickly it has spread, but I don't think that just anyone or anything can produce a glitzy video and have it go viral. It actually has to have some substance, which this clip certainly does.

Kony and his group was labeled as terrorist group back in 01. The ICC gave out an arrest warrant for him back in 05/6. He has been using child soldiers for 25 years. And only now this issue is being brought up?

And what did a majority do when they found out? We throw our cash into some organization, buy "aware" bracelets and posters of children with 2deep4u slogans. And most of the time, we are doing this just to feel better for ourselves. I bet most of the people donating to Invisible Children right now are doing it to be hip, then they come back home, not giving a flying ******* what is actually going on while sipping their latte.

Also, killing/capturing Kony won't solve all the problems in Uganda, and I bet that when he is killed or captured, no one will give a rats ass about this anymore.

Agreed. It annoys me how no one cares about worldly issues unless it's trendy.
This isn't anything new. Seems like this whole thing has already died down quite a bit in just a few days. So much for April 20th.

IC CEO response to criticisms regarding the organization's structure and financials. For them to have 80-85% funds go to program costs while producing all that "gimmicky consumerism products" (e.g. bracelets, DVDs, shirts) is incredibly impressive.

The independent audits have shown 70% or more of this groups funds go to overhead, not aid. Do your research before donating.

"Kony" is a CIA operation. He's not real.

Not sure what they are doing over there, but it's probably related to some "war on terror" campaign.

Is it at all fishy to anyone that this whole Kony thing came to light at the beginning of election time?

This whole thing seems pretty transparent to me. A ploy.

A rep for Invisible Children says Russell was suffering from exhaustion, dehydration, and malnutrition as a result of a strenuous PR campaign. LINK
exhaustion, dehydration, malnutrition = he was on some serious cocaine or something.

I doubt that anyone suffering those three symptoms as a result of a strenuous PR campaign goes out into the street butt naked with ones peepah and ass showing.
