Gettin real fed up waiting for this new iPad 😖. Fourth quarter 2019, first quarter 2020, and now fourth quarter 2020?
If there will be this major update in fall 2020 then a minor upgrade in spring or earlier is possible.

But I just bought the new 16" MBP...!

Dont worry, everyone believes it will be 200x the cost of the machine that is already 500x the cost they think it should be.

Best strategy is once you upgrade, ignore all news and rumors until you decide you need a new machine...then, when you decide based on experience with your own machine independent of rumors and raves about the machine you dont have, start looking at what is current and what is coming.

My rule is upgrade when new machine is 2x the speed of my current machine, but the 16" is not quite 2x my 2013 mpb, and my old machine is still adequate for my needs.

I wish but I doubt it. The short update between the iPad 3 and 4 is still a stain on Apple. It’s a first world problem, I can get by on 64GB but I’d like 256GB to fit more of my library, funny to see how it keeps getting pushed back though.

So, could this be the reason why Apple hasn't implemented HDR into their laptop displays? Is it because Mini/MicroLED will significantly reduce the cost to implement HDR compared to OLED?

Probably because Apple refuses to make a "band aid" upgrade. It is better to stick with proven tech, than to rush to implement something new...especially when they are already working on the replacement.

Also, HDR will hurt battery performance. Maybe the mini LED is efficient enough to minimize the impact of a brighter display? It is definitely a consideration ..

Depends on your 2x speed requirements. I'd expect it to be 2x the speed in nearly all requirements though.

Why is the 11" iPad Pro not on the time table to be released with a Micro-Led Display ? Why just the 12.9" ?

Mini-led, and probably this new mini led cannot be in mass production for the 11”
also so apple flip the coin and they chose the bigger one

They have no choice since Samsung showed first MicroLED ultrabooks this fall (available to buy early 2020). Key question is if they update MBP 13 and Air with Ice Lake and this new panel so all products can have a slightly different spec and price but they do not differ so much in terms of used technology solutions?

Kuo has also previously said that future iPad and MacBook displays will each use approximately 10,000 LEDs, compared to 576 in Apple's upcoming Pro Display XDR.
Is this a typo??

Probably not. There is a decent chance that the mini-LED will be needed to help rationalize the current price points zone that the iPad Pro 12.9 is in. Apple's inflated prices for SSD capacity should be wearing even thinner in the market by 3rd 2020.

I think the iPad Pro's are going to come back a bit in price and that the mini-LED is probably going to be something to keep the same top end price points they have now.

Two major factors. First, By 3Q 2020 there should be much more capable Windows tablet slabs with just as good battery life ( perhaps on 2nd gen Windows ARM SoC at the end of that Q3 and even more probably by Q4 2020. ). If Intel or AMD gets their stuff together in that space in late 2020, even more so. The competitive space the iPad Pro is in is going to pick up. Second, the iPad Pro is likely to start to hit a similar 'wall' that the iPad ran into several years after introduction. A substantive number of people are going to be slow to upgrade. Pushing the "newest" price up past most of the MacBook price range isn't going help that. Going to push more folks into the "the current one works just fine" mode. Apple will need to bring that feature down into the more affordable range to get it to move. ( e.g., brining Apple Pencil down to the entry iPad).
I think that’s a good analysis. I also definitely see iPad Pro prices coming down with the next release. Retailers have been almost constantly selling them $100-200 below retail price.

hoping the 11 inch pro will be the same...was hoping for march at the very least. will guess have to wait and see.

Kuo is usually pretty on point but this seems unlikely, especially for the 16" Pro. I personally feel Apple will update the 16" in Q3 with 10th gen CPUs and WiFi 6. The mini-LED tech just seems too far off but who knows, Apple can be unpredictable sometimes.
Why not? I believe Apple currently has that tech on their XDR display. This is not microLED after all (the OLED successor), but still an LCD panel.

10,000 leds is a lot for a full array led backlight. Even if they are grouped into. Zones that is still very tiny zones and will give amazing contrast and should be very similar to oled but with a huge brightness increase. Should have very good hdr with that many led’s also. I think Apple is waiting to release a Dolby vision capable screen till they have this going.
it’s not a small upgrade it is a progression of what they have now in tv’s but still 10 thousand is very very high. Not quite what micro will be but still should be a huge improvement over what we have now. Aren’t the MacBook And iPad screens edge lit? don’t think there’s any array of leds/zones in current screens.
It is not just to fulfill Dolby Vision standard but to fulfill strict Apple screen requirements and to reduce amount of scrap. That is why Apple did not follow companies like Dell where there is a big pressure on using latest components to offer it to customer as soon possible and the cost is loose quality testing requirements to keep the product cost on reasonable level. For example most of Lenovo panels have brightness lower about 100 nits than declared in official spec.

If true, sucks to be one of the people waiting to purchase an iPad Pro because of the "bending" issue. :D
Honestly, I’m pretty careful with my gadgets but I love to toss my iPad in a sleeve and put that in my bag. I’m pretty certain the new pro would have bent by now so I’d rather not take the gamble. Waiting to see how the new ones holdup

I'm in the market for a new MBP next year, so I hope this is true, but 4Q 2020 seems too soon to expect a miniLED display. MiniLED displays are still in their infancy in the consumer market and cost a lot to make. Case in point: There is only one miniLED monitor currently available to consumers, and it costs $4,000.

So does the rumor suggest we are getting 2 12.9" ipad pro models or just that the 11" is coming out first followed by the 12.9" later down the road?

Will the MBP 16" 2020 have 4K or close to 4K screen?
I feel like the present resolution is very good. I don't think it needs higher resolution. I would be more happy with mini (micro)led screen and higher refresh rate. Also I have the same opinion about iPhones. Screens are perfect. Both LCD and OLED but higher refresh rate would be welcome.

what microled ultrabooks ??? again? MICRO-led or mini led? again pixels in microled are too big and thats why for now we have microled big TVs...for a laptop....i hardly believe what you heard is true...or you are mistaken, like a lot of people microled with mini led

New iPad is coming at start of 2020. I don’t see 2 releases For the same device in a year.
Im not convinced it will come at the beginning of 2020. If I was Apple I would skip that cycle as iPadPro is great machine. I have 12,9 and can hardly think of any upgrades. Camera_ well...I have not used camara on my iPad once...

Can't wait for all the posts about how mini LED is going to solve all the LCD and OLED problems only to find in a year that mini LED has a bunch of problems of its own
