The Fold in theory sounds great, but it just looks like absolute hell... For $2k it needs to look a lot more polished. The front screen is terrible and the inside screens are having issues. In typical Samsung fashion they rush it out the door so they can lay claim as the first to do it.
Oh definitely I agree about the front screen, the ridiculous notch in the right corner, lack of waterproof, crease down the middle (kinda expected), etc. I was interested in this phone but wouldn't have touched the first gen, if they can iron out the issues and fix the cosmetic stuff I'll take a look at gen 2 or 3.

It's pretty sad that the rear camera on my 6s is pretty much the same as the XS Max. And looks like it won't change much from this year's model. The 6s came out in 2015. So 4 years and all they did was add wide/telephoto lenses?

They will look inconspicuous, other than being a large protruding square black hump on the back of the phone. Nobody will know what they are.
We'll see.
I guess it's better than seeing a large protruding back with googly eyes

“We forecast the camera upgrade will be one of the new 2H19 iPhone's major selling points.”

Not hard to forecast when that’s the only significant difference from last year’s iPhone...

Z

Is it? Are you sure about that? And what was the major difference between Samsung S8 > S9 > S10?

They've clearly run out of ideas
The entire smart phone industry is running out of ideas.

Huawei P30 pro here i come.

I know what you mean. The two things I want in a phone are

a) 5 x Zoom. Anyone with kids knows how useful a zoom lens is for things like school recitals. Plus nature photography, sport and music events etc.
B) Better low light performance.

It doesn’t look like the 2019 phones will address a) and possibly not b) either.

glad my X is still running like a champ. because this does not sound like a worth while update and the X was so expensive i should keep it at least 3-4 years...

I can see a clear difference from my X to XS Max - are you sure your 6s is the same?

You're joking right?

Photo comparison:

And there's 3 years difference, not 4.

The usual:
slower storage with less bandwidth, because it’s cheaper.
An off center hole in the display with a bottom bezel and curved display instead of a notch and no chin because it’s cheaper.
A terrible fps instead 3D fid, because it’s cheaper.
Aluminum instead of stainless steel, you know because it cheaper.
Home screen customization over privacy, you know because you spend more time staring at the home screen and talking about customization instead of using the phone.

Oh and it has to cost as much as an iPhone, who cares about the cheaper components, it has a fast charger in the box!!

So yeah, The usual.

Don't forget:

- A headphone jack, you know because these cheap people can't afford $150 headphones, and listening and charging sucks
- The ability to plug your phone to a monitor and use it as a computer, because you know its cheaper than buying and carrying additional MacBook
- PowerSharing feature, you know because it's cheap to share power with someone who may need it
- Expandable Storage via MicroSD card, you know because it's cheaper than paying a huge amount for upgrades upfront
- The option of a glass or ceramic models, you know because it's cheaper to provide choices for broke people
- Higher ppi on their screens, you know because it's cheaper to provide sharper, clearer screens
- Triple cameras, you know because it's cheaper to provide technology a year ahead of the competition
- An in-screen fingerprint sensor along with facial-recognition, pin and swipe log in, you know because it's cheaper to provide more forms of authentication than the competition
- A bigger battery, you know because its cheaper and cheap people can't afford to plug in more often
-Actual dual sim, you know because its cheaper than single sim and esim
-A customizable AlwaysOn Display, you know because its cheaper
- A USB C connector, you know because its cheaper than having to buy expensive dongles to connect to everything

Pen support on their Note series, the best smartphone displays on the planet, foldable screens, in-screen fingerprint scanners, headphone jacks on their phones, etc.

Some of these features may be first generation implementations, but at least Samsung is pushing the boundaries. iPhones are really boring in comparison. The only "exciting" feature they have is Face-ID.

None of these are really "innovations" in that they don't add more functionality to the phone

Phones really made a huge leap in the 6/6s era because
1) Screens became big enough to view a lot of information
2) Processors became fast enough to run really good apps
3) Cameras became quality enough to really document your life on social media

2/3 are key because apps like Uber and Instagram such spread to the masses. In many cases, those apps actually changed how people live (Uber being one).

Since that era, progress has been more incremental across all phone manufacturers. What needs to happen is that technology or apps need to advance to where new phones add new use cases to people's lives. No one is really doing that right now, Apple, Samsung, whoever...

I seriously hope the triple lens camera isn't as ugly as being shown in these renders.

So is the 12mp front facing camera really just for the millennials? I honestly never use it unless I'm Facetiming.

Just don't make the lenses stick out. Not that hard to make it look decent, especially if it feels hidden in the back. The phones are already sooo thin it's just stupid.
