This pleases me greatly. I was never a fan of the rounded edge profile of the iphone 6 and beyond. Though, could this possibly be a replacement for the SE to release early 2020 and not the iPhone 11S/iPhone 12?

It does make sense to name it that way iPhone 5G Mini, iPhone 5G, iPhone 5G Plus, iPhone 5G lens.
It’s unlikely to release on early 2020 if it can't produce Qualcomm 5G modem in larger quantity.
That was my thought as well - unifying their design. Sapphire glass on the front for Pro models would be fantastic...
Wonder if the rumored 16” MBO adopts the same design too?
While I adore the iPhone 5 (and 4 I guess) design, I’m not sure sharp edges are the way to go for a big palm stretching phone.
They kinda messed up with its development process of how to name the new design.
This is great news. Loved the iPhone 4 design and the squared metal edges with a no-bezel display will look amazing and feel solid in the hand.
I have no doubt next year's iPhones will be the best Apple has ever made, but for now let's all enjoy our iPhone 11 Pros. The new iPhones this year are all absolutely incredible.
In my readings of various sites trying to justify upgrading to the 11, many consider the 11 to be an "XS S" so to speak. That is, the tick-tock approach of an S release followed by a redesign seems to have changed this year. Many consider this a tick-tock-tock phone, before we get the 12.
Looks like we'll get a redesign, and 5G. I wouldn't be surprised if Touch ID isn't until 2021, though it would be nice if we can get everything at once.
yessss! i really hope that they manage to get rid of that thiiiiick bezels and notch. Every other company has smaller bezels and notches already!
Agreed. However, if the cost of sapphire glass is anywhere near the discrepancy of OLED and LCD that almost cost the same then it shouldn't be a problem.

Frankly, I am surprised it took nearly a week for iPhone 2020 rumors to make the front page, lol. I think it was last year that there was an article for the new iPhone rumors on the day before or the day of iPhone release. It just had me thinking, please let me enjoy this new phone for at least a little while!
The new SE wouldn't even have 5G anyway...It would be a cheaper iPhone, no way they'd put 5G.
Sorry i can't see the incredible stuff here. The Ram is STILL only at 4 gigs, which does make a huge difference when switching heavy lifting apps. The bezels are literally the thickest in that price range. The notch is STILL huge. Still no usb C, we lose 3d touch, Etc etc etc.
Most newer flagship smartphone doesn't have a notch and enormous amount of the customers were really impressed after trying out the in-display fingerprint sensors. 👍🏻
Sounds like Apple is taking 5G serious and coming up with a complete new case/antenna design.. Hope it works out better than with the iPhone 4

Awesome! I really liked that classic look from back when your phone wasn't just the screen and nothing but the screen.
I'd argue that the iPhone has had the same basic profile / design from iPhone 6 through to 11. (the soap bar shape) It's just the screen got bigger and they messed around for 6 years with antenna bands, camera bumps and materials.
I can't wait to go back to the simple, square profile of the 4.
I'd also guess that having that square profile will let Apple push the Face ID and front camera much closer to the edge, minimising (removing!?) the notch.
