Everyone's entitled to their opinions, but fact remains the major form factors include:

4/4S/5/5S then 6/6S/7/8 THEN X/XS/11/(?11S?)

4/4S & 5/5S so similar in design that it's easy to argue they were of the same form generation, the 5/5S were really just elongated versions of the 4/4S.

Eh, I think these classifications are fairly pointless, the lines are so blurry, and the systems all break down somewhere. E.g. one might as well argue that the 4/4S is part of the 3.5"-screen family with the 1/3G/3GS, and the 5 was the first major break - taller screen, new connector, headphone jack on the bottom, aluminum unibody. Ah, the 1 had the latter, too, curses. ;-)

There may very well be an 11S that is similar to this year’s 11 design as a lower end / base model. But it seems quite evident that we’ll be getting a redesign as well next year (regardless of the name).

You keep forgetting that the X was a redesign that launched 3 years after the 6. And a redesigned option in 2020 will be 3 years after the X’s introduction.

These are 3 years between redesigns.

I also wanted a SE size X or 11 in the past but imagine the size of the battery powering the A13 chip.

Would be around half the battery life...

SE - 1624 mAh
11 Pro - 3190mAH

Personally I love the design of the X. So much so that I upgraded to 11 Pro Max this year so that I can ride it out until the 12S. I’m usually an early adopter but with all of the sweeping changes planned for next year, I want some time for Apple to work out the kinks in the design.

Some said the X design was fine but was hugely disappointed after realizing a notch in the screen.

It will look nice, but won't feel nice in the hand. I loved the way the iPhone 3GS felt in my hand. After going to iPhone 4, my hands became very tired with the edge having become rectangular instead of rounded.

This is the model I am waiting for. the 11 Pro feels / looks like a stop-gap between here and there. I will enjoy my awesome XS Max until 2020. I'm telling you now THIS (with 5G) will be a WORLD WIDE SMASH HIT!!

Interesting. It seems strange that an S model would have a redesign as opposed to the 11 - maybe they'll skip to 12?

Apple put an end of life plan in place for the naming scheme with the X. The iPhone released next year will just be called iPhone and iPhone Pro/Pro Max. This has been a long standing plan to start a new legacy with the X

So Kuo predicts two things pretty much everyone expects, a redesign and 5G support.
In other news, next year I predict that water will still be wet.

I think the point was to give some detail on what to expect re-design wise. He gives enough detail on what the re-design will consist of to make this a good leak if true.

It probably won't be half of battery life if the screen isn't as big as 5.8” and it might actually last longer.

I love that idea! Would be great to drop the numbers! What are we counting up towards anyways!

The iPhone 4 is arguably the best designed smartphone in history. I still have a bunch of them (4/4s); I use them as car iPods and a lojack. I pulled one out the other day and it's still awesome.

Whatever you think about Ive, his iPhone 4 is really one of the best products in history.

What do you mean by "design"? It seems like you're talking about aesthetics and how the products look, whereas I'm talking about structure and how the products are engineered.

Both are valid interpretations of "design."

From how the products are put together mechanically/structurally, the 4/4S and 5/5S are totally different. It's been pretty much the same since the 5 through today in a general sense of how the metal frame has been used, but the 4/4S were entirely and completely different in terms of how the components fit together and how the metal/frame was used. I understood that to be the meaning as it was what OP was talking about.

Can’t wait for that smaller iPhone, the X is a perfect phone but my hands small I want that’s size for sure

My guess for next year is that all three 11 models stick around for another year with a price cut. Both the X and XS have been dropped after one year, but next year’s redesigned models will be different enough to allow both styles to coexist .

Oh I didn't forget about that, and I already mentioned in a previous post about how the X was released 'early' - both for the iPhone 10th Anniversary AND in order for Apple to stay in the lose-the-bezels game back in 2017.

There were 4 years between redesigns for the 4/4S/5/5S, and arguably 3 or 4 years in 2017 as the iPhone 8 was the main 2017 model (4 years) and the X was the 'One more thing' sped-up extra (3 years, if you wish).

Sure, the X got all the hype in 2017, for being different; but fact is iPhone 8 was the true 2017 model. Apple even said that in their Keynote.

You may be spot on that in 2020 we get the 11S (4th year version) *AND* a redesigned Pro; that *could* play out, sure.

But that prediction is worth as much as any other predictions - nothing.

We were *sure* up until the day before of iPhone 11/Pro announcement that Apple was going to give us reverse-wireless charging - that prediction bombed.

So many were *sure* up until the day before of iPhone 11/Pro announcement that we were also going to get USB-C this year - which obviously bombed too.

So all of us are doing nothing right now but shooting the ****, literally. lol

That is, except for the facts of the iPhone form factor generation history - as mentioned above.

The 4 and 5 were both iPhones, I’ll give you that.

The iPhone 11 could drop from the product lineup by next year in order to push 5G device adoption rate.
