Makes sense. The iPad Pro was designed this way as well. I almost believe the iPhone Pro series would adopt this design, however the base models will keep the fun, rounded design they have now. Just a thought.

Actually the iPhone has been more like 4 year cycles: 4/4S/5/5S I consider essentially the same design (albeit a small rev for the 5/5S), 6/6S/7/8 = same design, the X was sped up & released to due to compete with no-bezel phone competition and the iPhone anniversary.

As I earlier posted, I expect the new redesign in 2021; 2020 I bet is a 11S with 5G, reverse-wireless charging, and some AR camera stuff.
You should probably stop making predictions

Yes, but 4s and 5 werent...4 just had too few cut outs..Now even in X/Xs/11 pro we have 4 so double than the ip4
The later revision of the original 4 used for Verizon didn’t have it. That antenna re-design was recycled in the 4S as well.

no doubt the iphone 4 was the nicest looking iphone that they have come out with. Not sure how it would translate to a large size though with all the sharp angles that it had

The iPad Pro is probably similar in style to what they will go for, and that is even larger.

Here is a crazy idea.................

As Apple can now machine glass, as they do on the rear of the new iPhone Pro models.

Why not just scrap the frame totally.
Take 2 slabs of glass, machine out either side, and then glue both glass shells together, so it's all glass.

You could etch/engrave the glass to make areas that FEEL like buttons with taptic feedback.
The rear glass could still be frosted/textured as they wanted, or even texture the sides.

All glass ;)

Hope for future designs: I can't wait for a scratch and shatterproof phone that requires no protection of any kind. Such great designs are hidden behind the most hideous of cases. Just my two cents! ;)

Which was a unrealistic way you would hold a phone, it was people just trying to find things wrong with Apple phones so they can have their 15 minutes of fame.

Actually it had nothing to do with 15 mins of fame the Antenna issue was abhorrent so much so that Apple issued an APP so that we could order a BUMPER

An increase in unit costs of 50 percent. Am I reading that right?
I don't think so - Kuo was referring to the increased cost of of the shell & bands only. The cost of these is relatively minor compared to the other costs (screen, CPU, battery), so Apple's overall cost increase won't be anywhere near 50%.

I came here to say that the 2018 iPad Pro I have reminds me of the iPhone 4 design. If Apple does this with the 2020 iPhones it'll remind me of old rock bands who get back together and reminisce about the good old days lol

Would it not be more accurate to describe the 2018 iPad Pro design as closer to the 5/5s design instead of the 4/4s?

Whether you treat the 4/4S/5/5s as two 2 year cycles, or one 4 year cycle, its pretty obvious that they've been on a 3 year cycle since then:

2014/2015/2016 6/6s/7

2017/2018/2019 X/Xs/11

2020: New design

I don't get these posts about 4 generations. The 4/4S and 5/5S are two different phones, not the same phone/generation.

The only time we had 4 phones with the same design language was the 6/6S/7/8. And that was probably because a new category was introduced, with the iPhone X. But even in that case the top of the line iPhone didn't last 4 generations.

We don't really know what was going to happen but if the top of the line iPhone Pro keeps the same design language as the iPhone X it will be a surprise and very stretchy in terms of sales. My guess is that we will have a new design for the Pro model and the standard 11S/12 will have the same design language as the XR/11.

Please don’t go to OLED on all models. If you do, please eliminate the PWM nonsense.

im really not digging my 11 and it sounds like it might be the last iPhone for me until this gets sorted out.
