not buying the new version of the watch until they implement fever or blood pressure check

what we are not going to get thunderbolt 5, 240 Hz display, Blood sugar monitor ?
nothing ?

Have a Stainless Steel Space Black DLC coated Series 4 with a replaced battery.

Except for the smaller display and no always on display, it is fantastic, and I have yet to see anything in the 8, 9 or Ultras to make me want to upgrade. But I'm hoping next year gives me reason to.

The 2024 Apple Watch is "unlikely" to offer "significant innovative experiences," according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Apple-Watch-Series-9.jpg

For instance, in a post on Medium today, Kuo said the Apple Watch will not be equipped with a micro-LED display or blood glucose monitoring in 2024. He believes these features are at least two years away from being added to the Apple Watch.

It's unclear if Kuo's prediction rules out the launch of the rumored "Apple Watch X" next year. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said a significantly overhauled "Apple Watch X" would launch in either 2024 or 2025, to mark the tenth anniversary of the device. The original Apple Watch was announced in September 2014 and released in April 2015.

The information shared today by Kuo is quite vague, so there are a lot of possibilities and unanswered questions for now. For example, perhaps Kuo is referring to the model that will succeed the Apple Watch Series 9, and the "Apple Watch X" will be an additional high-end model that does offer more innovative changes. This would be similar to the iPhone X launching shortly after the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in 2017.

Gurman said the "Apple Watch X" would be equipped with a thinner case, and potentially a magnetic band attachment system. And if the device doesn't launch until 2025, perhaps the rumored micro-LED display will also be ready.

Kuo added that Apple Watch shipments are expected to decline to 36-38 million units in 2023, a decline of approximately 15% on a year-over-year basis. However, he said that Apple Watch integration with Apple's upcoming Vision Pro headset could "create an unparalleled and innovative health management experience" that boosts shipments.

The watch is stale and losing market share, Apple will pay a bigger price in 2024 just like they did with the M2 Macs 😡

Still rocking my series 4! Other than the battery life, it still does a solid job. I'd like to see a case update, but keep the bands.

How to boost Apple Watch sales:

• No iPhone dependency. Ideally, standalone, although it could have Mac dependency.
• 12 MP camera to read QR-codes and more.
• Safari as standard visible application (not hidden as now is).

so the same as the last few years then? not much innovation left to do beyond super iterative updates on watches and phones - and now, even laptops

Not exactly making me want to part with my 7 any time soon.
Not exactly making me pull the trigger on my first Apple Watch either. I want one, but I keep putting it off waiting for significant improvements, but it feels pretty stagnant. Glucose monitoring would be huge, but I feel like the battery life still needs to be a lot better. For one thing, you can't really use it for sleep monitoring because when are you going to charge it?

I wasn’t expecting microLED nor glucose monitoring anytime soon, so not surprising to hear.

However, I really hope Apple makes some design changes, battery life improvements, and/or some more health sensor tracking for next year’s X.

The thing looks far too gadgety. Really should hone in on the fashion aspect again and leave the Ultra for the enthusiasts who don’t care about looks.

Currently on the 6 series and have had very little reason to upgrade for years. No major UX change or feature benefit. The incremental screen increase is nice but ultimately the looks dated.
Couldn’t agree more. I’ve been itching to upgrade for years but there haven’t been any significant upgrades so I’m still hanging on to the SS series 5. I keep watching the announcement hoping there will be a reason for me to give them my money and every time they show me basically the same watch. The Ultra was big changes for those who wear hiking boots every day, and I think it’s great that demographic has a new gadget, but it’s disappointing that they’ve seemingly abandoned people still looking for a classy watch.

Apple Watch finger-pinching commands work with the last update on my 2022 Apple Watch Ultra.

A shame glucose sensor won't find it's way into next Apple Watch either.

Next up: Kuo visits on an old European town with a centuries old clock tower, looks up, and declares "no significant innovative experiences".

Expecting to see something different for the 10th anniversary edition.

Seems odd that 2024 wouldn't be a big update considering this year was pretty pathetic in terms of new features. Would rather Apple just didn't release a new Watch every year and wait until they had a ton of exciting new features to announce.
I don't really mind the yearly refresh. It makes the older generations more affordable faster. For example the Series 7 are selling at a very good price right now and you don't really miss much compared to 8 or 9.

This is the same guy that claimed it was the the Titanium chassis that was making the iPhone 15 Pro's over heat when it was bad acting apps. Take everything he says with a grain of salt.
You realise both can be true? We don’t know anything for certain… yet.
