iPhone 11 is the last bastion of relatively safe mobile phones. 5G is going to mess us up bad. But hey, at least we'll get fast IoT right? ;)

I’m definitely planning on buying this iPhone.

I have the iPhone XS - Decided not to get the iPhone 11 to hold out for the 5G iPhone..

The 5G rollout is coming along pretty fast! All four carriers seem to be adding coverage in cities all the time!
What do you even need it for?

And relatively few care about the notch or think it’s “terrible” ❌❌

Apple doesn’t care what a couple hundred trolls or members of the Apple hate club think. They’ve sold upwards of a couple hundred million iPhones with the notch; the people have spoken. ❌

The notch, though likely smaller in the coming years, could easily be around for another 5-10 years. Get over it, or get a different phone ❌❌

Your assumption is ❌ So stop endorsing mediocre stuff and draw to a conclusion based on your mediocre thoughts. JUST STOP❗❗ JUST STOP❗❗

Thoughts on radiation risks with 5G? Are they legitimately increased or have I fed the internet hype machine again?
Where do you live? That I can tell there is still certainly a big ? over the mm wave technology, but not all 5G networks use it (it's not used in the UK for instance, and networks are using frequencies close to 4G):

Unless you can repost no notch, it's useless news!

Oh my gawd man! why do people insist that they want USB-C on the iPhone? Lightning is a better, more durable connector!

This...this is a joke right?
Why would he be joking?

Lightning connector is a better connector than USB C.

Lightning cable has the male finger with contact pins

USB C cable has a female plug.

Lightning cable in device, what can happen if someone steps on cable?
Male Finger of lighning cable can break off, result?

Destroyed cable, buy a new cable, device ok.

USB C cable in device, what can happen if someone steps on cable?
Male Finger inside device breaks off, result?

Destroyed cable, buy a new cable,
and
Logic board replacement of device.

Nice logic there USB forum geniuses!!

Based on what?

USB-C not only has better transfer speeds.... it’s more efficient at charging devices

USB-C FTW!

If lightening was better then Apple wouldn't move away from it. The fact it is shows you that USB-C is. Apple tried to get everyone else to convert to theirs but failed so it's likely we'll see them move away over the next few years.

5G is over-hyped. It will take years still before there is widespread coverage with material speed increases. You literally need to be within 100 yards line of site of a tower to see the advertised speeds. Anything in the way of that (eg a tree, a wall, in your car, etc...) will dramatically slow it down

The T-Mobile rollout is especially a joke
I have to agree with you. Even with the 4G, there is no equal amount of coverage and speeds varies at all locations. I think 5G coverage will be more concentrated in large cities in business and commercial areas and not expecting much in residential areas.

I suspect if radiation is a risk, it would most likely affect the user who talks on the phone a lot.

It may be upsetting to you, but as I said, two hundred million people have already purchased iPhones with the notch. It didn’t stop them from paying $700-1,450 for their new iPhone.

You may not like it, but Apple’s fine with it; after all, they’ve already brought out seven models with it, and they’ll be bringing another four new models with it this fall.

People aren’t stupid; they understand that technology isn’t perfect. But they’re willing to accept the trade off of the notch to get the tech that lives in that notch.

In a perfect world, all of the sensors and transducers that take up that space would be so small there wouldn’t need to be a notch. But we don’t live in a perfect world, so we have the elegant design compromise that is the notch.

I have zero interest in 5G but I’d consider upgrading if the QC modem pulls in a usably better signal at the fringes.
If they have USB-C, fix the atrocious Mail app, and at least reduce the notch, I might, MIGHT be tempted back.
The Mail app is software, so it can change regardless of the iPhone model. What’s your issue with the Mail app? (Mine is that it’s very buggy in iOS 13 but it’s fine structurally.) And did you know there are a bunch of well-received third party mail clients for iOS? And if you like one of them you can even delete the stock Mail app.

And btw, 4 months after going from the 8 to the 11 I barely notice the notch. I don’t understand the vitriol. It doesn’t get in the way of anything. Is is that aesthetically repugnant that to avoid it displeasing you you’d eschew the finest in biometric smartphone security?

I’ll stick to my xs for another year or two until 5g is more standard. Is going to take time to fully implement this and I’m in no rush to drop another $1000 for a phone

Zero interest in 5G, it will just increase monthly prices for no gain 99% of the time. So far I’m not seeing anything that will make me upgrade from my 11 Pro.

I think you are absolutely right on this there in the US. Not so in some other countries eg. China, where 5G rollout is far more aggressive and gaining traction. Apple can't wait to not have products to compete with Samsung and Huawei. Apple is already 1 year late!

iPhone 12 won’t be bundled with airpods, that would add another $100 to the selling price unnecessarily, since many already have them or don’t want them. And relatively few care about the notch or think it’s “terrible” 🙄

I raged against the notch on all phones, thinking it looked stupid and would be a distraction. Within an hour of having purchased the iPhone 11 I stopped noticing it. I dont think it adds anything to my user experience, but it certainly doesnt take anything away.

The problem is always too much financial interest and lobbyism and too little unbiased research. I will always tend towards the precautionary principle. 5G seems to be more difficult to avoid, unfortunately.

How is lightning more durable? Surely that’s down to the manufacturer?

USB is standard - one cable for multiple devices.

I’m challenging myself to use my current iPhone (iPhone 11) for as long as possible. I usually upgrade after 1 or 2 years but I want to see how long I can go without upgrading. I‘d like to go 4 years at least without upgrading.
I went 4 years with my 6S Plus and would have gone at least another but the 6% cash back Apple was offering was too good to pass up. It was a good phone and still ran decently well.

So many people here saying 5G will be useless due to range. The upper frequency 5G service will have better range than current WiFi and how many places do you go in populated areas now that you do not see a WiFi signal? Houses here are spread out pretty well and I bet I see 20 or more. It may be a while before you’re driving around town hopping from tower to tower on 6GHz plus service but it wont be that long before you’re standing or sitting in a location fed by an antenna that feeds the higher band. The real roll out will start with service to a commercial building or home. Today you have a cable feed your home then a router broadcast the service internally. In the not too distant future antennas will be installed around the neighborhood offering service that can perform up to 10Gbps. You may have a router like you do today but no cable to the house will be needed and perhaps no need to talk to the router if you can/want to see the antenna near the house. That would be WiFi vs 5G choice. Point is, dont limit yourself to repeating what others have said about the future of the tech. People said the same things about 5GHz service for WiFi....you have to stand next to the access point so what is the point of that and it turns out what they meant is you have to be next to the AP to get the full capability of the rated speed. The lower speed is still pretty great considering the other options. The new phone will be a benefit and for all that say otherwise I will see you in here talking about enjoying it. Ha.

Doing away with the notch should come before releasing a 5G iPhone. Let’s get our priorities straight here. Lol

I dunno. With 5G not fully a thing yet...are these phones even going to be able to take full advantage?

It might not be a thing in the USA, but it's certainly a thing in the UK and Australia. Most major cities now have coverage.

Bunch of mostly unfounded hype. Article linked below is a decent one but behind a paywall, so you'll need a way to read NY Times content to see it:

But one thing to consider here is, the people all worried about 5G radiation are basing most of that fear on the idea that you have to place transmitters so close to the users for this technology, basically at ground level. In reality, that's not how the deployments are really going right now. That gets done in certain high density areas like ballparks, but it's too costly to drop transmitters on every single block in America. A lot of "5G" is getting achieved by reusing existing radio spectrum, such as T-Mobile merging with Sprint and re-purposing their existing cellular bandwidth for it.

This argument is the exact same misguided argument that has been made every time a new generation of cellular tech is released. And guys and gals, it is getting old, as in literally 20 years old.

Meanwhile, the technology world moves on.
