There certainly are times when it would be great to have a self driving car but I wouldn't want one that doesn't have a steering wheel etc. so you can drive it if you need/want to. I also want to know more about how they drive in the snow etc. where among other things you can't see lines on road and curbs are covered up and you can't tell between road and curb. We have areas in Maine that don't yet have map coverage when you are driving through them - what happens when you need to go to one of those places
They other thing is how much cost - what subscriptions do I need. What are maintenance costs. How is my insurance rates going to change.

"Kuo said the market is "overly bullish" about the Apple Car's launch schedule, and he has advised investors to avoid buying Apple Car-related stocks at this time."

So, eventually they will be worth buying, but not right now? Kind of reminds me of Amazon's 90% crash during the Dot Com Bubble. Investors had the right investment, but wrong timing. But in the end, it all worked out. Perhaps things will play out similarly with electric cars.

I knew 2024 sounded too soon for Apple to unveil it’s Electric Car. These things take time. Especially with Apple. They may not always be the first coming out with a product, but they eventually come out with one of the best. Until they do, Tesla is the king. I think VW’s electric ID Buzz is gonna be a contender too. But thats not arriving until late 2022.

I remember when Apple had iTunes in other phones then came out with the iPhone years later. This may be Apple having CarPlay in other cars then coming out with the iCar.

Apple tried ONE previous integration into a rather boring Motorola phone, but nothing close to the capability of an iPod at that time. Given that Apple is usually after creating a nice experience, we’ll have to see if they want to take much partners onboard.

I'm glad you included "ultimately" in your statement. As I approach the age of 64, I feel quite confident that the "ultimately" will not happen in my remaining years.
if you plan on dying in a couple of years, you have a point. but if you live to at least 70, it’ll be here way before then.

I don’t see problems with some of that. Leasing agreements? Not sure what Tesla does now, but at first they had NO leases, then they did a deal with a couple of banks. Apple certainly already has financial industry experience with wallet, Apple Pay, their own credit card, etc. Leasing and financing will be pretty easy for them.

Direct sales? Again, same as Tesla. Buy the apple car from your computer, iphone, ipad, etc., on the web, using the Apple Store app, or some new app for that purpose. Visit a show room to see the car and take a pre-scheduled test drive. Salesman can help you buy the car yourself using a handy iMac sitting in the showroom.

Building: many choices. Even old car companies use contract manufacturers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Contract_vehicle_manufacturers

Service is the big question mark.
I know that Apple could sell the car, the problem is the laws that prevent auto manufacturers from selling direct to customers. I know that Tesla has been fighting those laws for years.

Kuo is a great source for products that are 6-18 months out. For products that are a few years out, I don‘t think his supply chain sources are as relevant. He has no sources inside Apple, unlike e.g. Gurman (from Bloomberg) and a few others.

Whether anyone thinks it is not a financially worthwhile endeavor for Apple, I do think it will benefit society in having a company with deep pockets like Apple paying talented engineers to work on finding solutions that will eventually have applications outside of automotive.

I guess it depends on how old you are, but you definitely will. There will be a point, I’m gonna say 2050-ish, where states will begin legislating that human-controlled vehicles shouldn’t be operated on the roads.
And I will be long dead. Oh well. Everyone can have my stuff!

So much wrong here...1 - the 'home smart speaker' market is basically a spy based market. It may in fact come crashing down with privacy legislation. Alexa works 'great' because it is basically collecting data on you and the more you give it, the more (Magic!) it 'knows'. Imagine that...2 - "However, our latest survey indicates" Survey? You mean, gossip and guesses. BS on ALL of this. Plus trying to define who is ahead and who is leading in 'deep learning' ETC is skewed. I don't think we know because so much is being faked here. As was reported a year or so ago, Amazon had some 'scan business card' service and it pretty much ended up with people typing in the info. And who is leading in self-driving car tech and how do we know this? I still think Apple will go 'car as service' route. Blow up the entire stupid auto industry. Pay a monthly fee for access to a car when you need it that comes to where you are. Different monthly fee gets you more access and various sized vehicles. Cars are a massively inefficient purchase for most people. Pay 30 to 50 grand for an item that sits unused most of its life and depreciates immediately. Monthly fee, self driving cars in urban markets to start. Anyone else think this makes sense?

That is likely true, but in the mean time there’s no need to volunteer to be a guinea pig.

In any event, I doubt “self driving” will be the main focus of apple car.
I think it might and I suspect self driving cars are, right now, way safer in most cases than distracted, drunk, and plain old stupid people. In 5 years, 10 years, there will be no comparison.

Truly interesting things will happen if/when autonomous vehicles become ubiquitous. When vehicles can sense one another and avoid not just collisions, but traffic jams.

I think the car itself is ready to launch soon...it's the damn wireless charging mat you drive onto to wirelessly charge the car! That (like AirPower) will take 5-7 years to get right. :)

That'll be interesting...being drunk in a self-driving car! Will that be legal at some point when self-driving cars are fully autonomous (no needing to babysit the car)?
