Do not get the apparent envy of a high performance iPad. MBP are very good computers - use that instead if you run macOS. Of course, Apple might kill the Mac laptop line entirely and only have dual boot. Ok not in a few years...

Hopefully it runs MacOS as well as iPadOS.

You will never see a non-Mac run macOS. It’s in the name.

iPadOS will develop better multi tasking and input features for desktop style apps. It’s definition of ‘desktop class apps’ is different from macOS apps. They have to be able to run efficiently in the footprint of an iPad.

Don’t listen to those people who think the iPad Pro has the same specs as an MacBook Air. Different thermal design. If you could run full macOS on an iPad the device would throttle and overheat badly. Battery life would be several times less than running iPadOS.

Maybe I don't fully understand your post, but for me the "issue" is that the MBA is still too big/heavy. I want a Mac "ultrabook" - 2 lbs, 12" or smaller. It seems that Apple is forcing us to choose iPad at that size and I don't like iPad.

My interest in a foldable iPad depends very much on the size. If it’s a 10”-15” that folds in half, that’s of no use to me because under 15” already fits in any bag that I would carry. It would have to be larger than 15” for folding to be useful to me. Or under 10” because then folding could allow it to fit into my sweatpants pocket (at home).
But I’m not sure I’d want an iPad bigger than 15”. So rather than folding I’d probably just prefer regular iPads of the exact size that I want (13”-15” iPP and a 7” Mini). Folding adds complication so it’s less ideal for me. I’ll take the kickstands though.

Would this be the same analyst who said we get the foldable phone in 2022/23 about 3 years ago. I’m going to be an analyst for apple sites you just make up a story and it gets posted as fact

While I have found Samsung's foldable devices quite impressive and there are clearly some use cases for it (with very large tablets being one of them) I wouldn't be able to live with the current crop of screens.

They just aren't flat and creaseless enough for my taste even assuming that the reliability is worked out.

I am so, so excited for a kickstand. I’m not ashamed to say that I adore the kickstand on the Microsoft Surface. And I’m incredibly shocked that the third party accessory market hasn’t created a well-made kickstand case. The Logitech Combo Touch is pretty good, but why force customers to purchase the keyboard? $200+ is a steep charge when I only want protection + kickstand.

What’s interesting about this leak, though, is the complexity that a kickstand + foldable will bring. I have to assume that the kickstand will work in landscape protestation. That said, will the device’s fold crease be east west when the device is in landscape orientation? I can’t imagine it would fold in the opposite direction of the kickstand’s direction. But if all of that is true, what are the dimensions of the iPad when it’s folded? Call me confused yet intrigued.

Load of absolute RUBBISH 🤣

Kuo must be getting desperate, his source must be Dave who cleans the bins at McDonalds in fisherman wharf, San Francisco.

Apple will NEVER let an iPad eat into Mac sales or accessory sales. NEVER.

I'm more a fan of rollable tech. Nearly all the same benefits without the drawbacks.

I'm sure Apple has solved the crease problem. There's a patent about using heat, though that seems battery draining. Surely it'll just be a tension thing with plates behind the screen or something. Doesn't seem impossible if you're willing to increase costs. I think getting a good seal is the hard part.

Best case scenario, this'll be a regular iPad you can fold without any compromises (except $)

I wan the screen on the outside, which means making a super hard screen that can withstand scratches and drops. It's 2023 and Apple can charge a mint at retail, giving them a huge R&D budget, so it can't be that far off.

Hmm bet it won’t be a phone then, just a tablet. I expect they’ll make this first to see how many they sell, and what price point they can get away with charging. Then do a foldable iPhone.

The crease will still be present though I expect and that makes these screens look a little rubbish in my eyes.

Makes more senes they start with foldable iPhones, where the market are more hungry for it.
But maybe Apple will just release these as a test objects. Doesn’t sound like Apple, but not much of Apple these days are like the Apple we know. But nah, don’t believe that rumour.

Foldable iPhones, or any foldable iPad for that matter, will not interest me before 2nd generation anyway.
I don't doubt there will be a lot of trouble with these to start with.
Tell me about it 3-4 yrs 😉

I have an iPad Pro from 2017 that I’m still using. If we get a foldable iPad I will upgrade immediately. I’m so excited for this and idk why I’m the only one that is, lol! A big iPad that takes up half the space while traveling/carrying would be sooooo cool.

A giant canvas doesn’t seem very alluring.

An iPad Mini that folds out into a 10” display? Sold. I have the worlds best note taking device on one side and then it folds out for CAD work or photo editing.

This is simply not going to happen...
And if it does happen, it will not be 2024.
How did we go from 2024 will bring us 14 and 16 inch iPads…
To 2024 will simply bring us the same sizes but OLED iPads…
To now, absolutely out of nowhere, the 2024 iPad will be foldable.
This being after Apple apparently canceled all of its previous foldable plans because they didn’t think the market and tech was ready…
No, I do not believe will see a foldable anything in 2024.
