And next please do something about the TouchBar. Make one MBP15 without the TB, or at least, give me back my f-keys, and put the TB above it!

I had an 2018 MBP 15, and after 3 months i still couldn't get use to the Keyboard, but even worse is the TB, so i sold it and went back to 2015 MBP 15 >.>.

I hope they don't go backward in terms of stability and key size. I'd prefer they improve on the touch bar as well and expand it since they could probably use face ID instead of touch ID depending on what they do with the camera. It will be interesting to see where things go in any case. There is plenty of people leaping to all sorts of conclusions and assumptions but I doubt this isn't some radical right turn but rather it's something that was planned to happen anyway if it's going to happen at all.

Will the replacement program for the 2016 - 2019 MBP keyboards have this new iteration of keyboard? I hope Apple will have some decency to their butterfly-ed users.

You can just default the touch bar to be the F keys if you want, it's not a big deal.

I think FaceID is pretty useless on a laptop. The user experience would still require a button to press to confirm unlocking or purchasing. Imo Touch ID today works quite well for the MBP use cases

The problem is a lack of tactile feel plus no physical buttons. Some of us are touch typists and having virtual function keys actually hinder touch typing. Personally I would prefer a physical escape key

I wonder if Kuo is trolling Apple, knowing such a suggesting as ditching the disastrous butterfly keyboard will generate huge cheers ...

.. so would Apple deny it in thecae of such cheers?

"you're typing it wrong"

"Kuo also suggests a switch away from butterfly will reduce costs, as a keyboard using the mechanism is between 250% and 350% higher in cost to produce than a general notebook keyboard due to low production yields. "

Wow. This for a switch prone to failure, when I'm just here wishing they'd use POM keycaps rather than PBT as the former will hold the matte finish rather than wear off and look like a perma-oil sheen like the current ones will.

Remember, the only solid leak we have is that 7 new laptops were registered in the Eurasian database, which as far as I know, (correct me if I’m wrong) has never had a situation where a registered product didn’t go on to release. So new laptops are coming like a heart attack, and even with cellular options they can’t all be Airs, so I’m still optimistic for the 16 inch

I uindersatnd, even though I lik the TB since I rarely use F keys. Wait until they dump keys altogether for a jhpatic feedback solid keyboard. Would end spills at least.

Jony Ive’s arrogance and obsession with thinness has cost Apple a ton of money and reputation. I’m glad he is leaving the company later this year, primarily because his editor and curator is no longer there.

This is really such a dumb attitude. Ive is a design legend. Clearly not without faults, but the fact you can name him says a lot. Name the chief designer at any other major company without looking it up? It’s incredibly unlikely you can.

I’d ask, what was the first apple product you owned?

If they also bring back MagSafe, it would be fantastic.

Hell, YES, PLEASE!!! I'd even be willing to pay a premium for this. How they removed MagSafe, I'll never be able to wrap my head around.

I don't get why they would go back to scissor keyboard with longer key travel because logically it will require more space to implement. In my opinion only feasible successor for the butterfly keyboards would be force touch keyboards, why not make keys like touchpad in current MacBooks. Of course cost would be issue but eventually it will get down and I don't see that limiting factor today for the current higher end Pro models where price is not the first thing anyone looks.

OMG, NO! You don't type much, do you?

Mind to read the report? The scissors keyboard costs less and that's why Apple is adopting it.

Trolls can't help themselves.

I agree that Apple is working to cut costs. My working theory is that the 16" will be a cheaper (non-IPS) panel, and that model will have limited options. A cheaper keyboard fits with that nicely. (Btw, it takes a long time to invent a new keyboard. They've been working this for years....you just found out today!)

And im guessing theyll either keep the IPS panel on 15"-ers, or upgrade to an OLED...so there will be both a more expensive version and a cheaper version.

Everyone should be happy, but my most daring prediction is that...wait for it...trolls will be trolls. They dont actually care about prices.

I was suggesting that Ive, who once had an iron grip on all things design, may have lost some of his power in recent years to the pro design team. So it may not be as black and white as you think.

Ah I see, well maybe, that’s kind of the suggestion of the WSJ story.

Huh? I’m saying the idea that anyone at Apple would intentionally have signed off on shipping a defective keyboard is absurd. As are all these takes that Ive forced this keyboard on the company (either not knowing it was problematic or not caring) and everyone else just said yes sir, Mr. Ive, whatever you say. To believe that you have to assume everyone else in the company is perfectly fine shipping shipping something they know to be problematic to please one guy. Sorry it’s absurd.

But they did ship something that was problematic, in THREE DIFFERENT UPDATES!
So the proof for what you are saying is ‘absurd’ is kind of in your face no?
