I wouldn’t return it and wait based on a rumor.
True, I went and reread again and saw the “rumor” and have the same thoughts as you.

I’ll just wait and if it does come out I’ll just trade it in if it truly is a totally different/better beast.

We are finally getting a MBP KB thread clear of those "this issue is overblown" responses.

Kuo staying the obvious again..... I think we all knew Apple would be going back to the standard that’s worked for keyboards for years, because it can’t keep repairing new computers failing every 5 minutes...
The narrative here was been different, pretty much every MBP iteration since 2017 has us expecting the KB going back to scissor switches as soon as it became clear Butterfly switches themselves were the culprit. But turned out it never happened since Apple seemed unwilling to change the chassis design too soon.

Ive will have been the one to implement this change... they haven’t suddenly decided this, got contracts drawn designed and tested and put into production a new keyboard over night.... and how do you know it wasn’t Ive who came up with this plan?

Not necessarily. He may have wanted to keep the asinine butterfly design but was finally overruled by more rational heads. Possibly prior to his departure he’d been losing power and stature at Apple anyway.

Regardless how it happened ... OUR LONG NATIONAL NIGHTMARE IS OVER!!!

So I guess the updated design in the 2019 MacBook Pros haven't fixed it completely then.

Maybe they did, but the previous keyboards still gave a bad reputation to the previous 3 generations, so I'm guessing this is an attempt at damage control.

Remember KUO also said in 2019 we will see a new macbook pro 16” ,now he says 2020

Sure, but you know that it can happen stuff in a product pipeline, yeah? Delays because of missing components or stuff have to be reworked and so forth..

Marketing also plays a big part I'd reckon.

So far so good with mine, but it has only been a month. I’ll holler back in 6.

It’s a shame they break so often, and have garnered this reputation, as I actually quite enjoy typing on it and I really didn’t think I would.

(butterfly keyboard, Touch Bar gimmick, flexgate, overheating and throttling) after I got 2016 tb mbp, I predicted these issues won't get away soon and passed to iMac one year later and I'm glad I did it. See you maybe in 2020 depending on the improvements.

While I like the butterfly keyboard on my MBP 2016 and haven't need to repair it yet I think this is a great news, too many reliability problems. I can type slightly faster on my MBP than on the keyboard I bought with the Mini, but reliability is more important than that, so I'm ok with them going back to scissor mechanism, and maybe they'll manage to keep a similar feedback to the current keyboard with a little more travel which will be great, so let's see.
2020 is good, as I may get my next laptop in 2021 or 2022, if the keyboard keeps working :D

Glad Jony Ive is leaving. Let's look at some of his influences.
  • Apple Stores with highly reflective metal and glass creating WiFi multi-path so bad, Apple staff had to go in the back of the store to complete your purchase with a wireless terminal.
  • iPhone 4 stainless steel antenna problem.
  • Mac Pro trash can.
  • Designer Apple Watch series as an overpriced fashion accessory.
  • Butterfly keyboard.

See You Later Alligator, Bye Bye Butterfly ...

Bad news about MacBook Pro however. My 2016 model has a malfunctioning screen, keyboard and SSD and repair is not worth it for me and I don't want to buy a new one with butterfly keyboard.

Making do now, using an external monitor, SSD and keyboard. More of a MacCircus than a MacBook at the moment ;)

Kuo gets his info from the Taiwanese and Chinese suppliers backdoors.

If he got it from Apple he would get the timing right :D

Still he always gets it right with these hardware based rumors.
