I am sure about that for a couple of reasons.

1) Apple did not produce that many of them I bet

2) People are going to buy it with the intent of playing with it for 14 days and then returning it
that’s quite the amount of money to be able to just wave goodbye to for two weeks, taxes alone add like $220 😂 you are probably right that Apple didn’t produce many though, I can’t imagine they’re banking on this being a commercial success on the level of iPhone (in this generation) with its current price point. what they are likely banking on is tech enthusiasts saying “this is it, visionOS nails VR/spatial computing/whatever have you,” getting consumers excited for a more budget-friendly option from them.

until then…excited to schedule a demo in early Feb!

I think it's quite possible that Tim Cook managed to so completely obliterate the Apple brand that people just don't care anymore.
Who cares about the precious [fabled] Apple brand? We need appliances and they have delivered them.

They going to sell out fast, order yours now as they wont last. Quite frankly, place multiple orders from different locations in case one doesn't go through. Buy one for your wife, your kids, parents and cousins.

Sincerely,

An Apple Shareholder

You can pay for it in installments.. I just did it for a MacBook Pro 14 inch m3 for 2 months over the holidays that I plan to return. I actually want the next MacBook Air when they release it. It only held up $400 for a $3500 laptop. But you have to be extremely careful not to scratch it. Which is gunna be tricky for a lot of people planning to return the Vision Pro in two weeks.

“No one will want this expensive iPhone it will be a flop”….2007…..”no one will want this expensive Vision Pro it will be a flop”….2024

Not that Apple hasn’t had some flops but this isn’t the iPhone.

The iPhone presentation by jobs blew people away. You’ll always find a few critics but they were few. We saw unprecedented at the time capacitive touch screen using just your fingers. A usable web browser that looked like the real thing. Video and pics that looked much better. An easy to use iPod or music player. Google maps.

Contrast this with palm which I used. We had all that. It just looked like garbage is all. But certainly I could play music, use an awful looking browser, etc. and have it on 3g. Plus with games and apps already it was still I feel a superior device to iPhone. And so I kept it.

iPhone 3G and App Store changed that. Palm responded with webos. Went back. iPhone 4 then killed it.

But there’s nothing about this Vision Pro that blew people away. Everything showcased the quest can do besides maybe record video? I don’t know. But there’s nothing that blows your mind or is unprecedented besides the amount of pixels Apple is throwing at your eyes.

Like then with palm you’re probably still better off getting a quest right now. Apps and games exist. Much better price. That’s if you even want one. Phones were easy to justify. You need one. You don’t need this.

We’re still waiting for Apple to blow us away with something. Nothing the Vision Pro offers does this yet. Will it be higher quality yes (and you’ll pay for it) but that’s not mind blowing.

And will it come with the same restraints the quest has. You can’t wait to take it off after 20-30 mins. How will this Vision Pro be any different. It’s still swimming goggles.

I want to be excited too. But when people start mentioning iPhone then you’ve jumped the shark. There will never be another iPhone. The iPhone basically put blackberry, Nokia, and palm all out of business. It was a magic money machine. The Vision Pro? Not so much. Not even close.

The unfortunate thing I've found with most of Apples marketing is being demonstrated as a content consumption or communication device. If it could be compatible with the Mac App Store, that would be fantastic.

Final Cut Pro with timelines everywhere.
Photoshop with all the toolbars open.
Blender with actual THREE DEE support.

Yeah ... making 3D content in-device would be a game changer for me.

Oh and SteamVR support.

Well, it blew me away. I don’t know if you watched the keynote or some videos, but core things to AR like eye tracking, screen resolution and fidelity, space stability, hand occlusion, etc. in the Vision Pro seem like a decade forward compared to anything available today. Just like the iPhone’s capacitive screen compared to resistive ones (but in this case, much more difficult and mind-blowing).

Personally, I do not want the spatial computing future that Apple is trying to sell us with the Vision. I don't want to live in a world where people wear their headsets (yes, Apple, they are headsets) all the time, distancing themselves even further from reality than they already do by constantly looking at their phones.

Then again, for the technology to evolve to the point where it fits into a pair of standard glasses, we need to start somewhere, and the Vision might be the starting point.

They really want people to use this as their full-time computer and it only comes with 256GB of storage space? That's ridiculous. For that price, it's got to be a TB or more.
It's not really meant for outside of the home I bet. You'll get all your data on wifi.

This is always sad.

Being such a niche product at such a high price point there is no reason whatsoever why they will sell out.

Stories like this just artificially stoke demand from the FOMO crowd.

The other thing which is annoying is that without a doubt the rabid pre-orderers here will almost entirely be made up of fame-seeking "me first" YouTubers who are desperate to be the first to get a review online.... BUT you know darn well that they have zero intention of keeping the $3500 product and will just open the box, play with it, and send it back.

Apple's return policy is very generous and a lot of people take advantage of it. I wonder whether YouTubers will be penalised in the future for ruining a $3500 product just for video. That said a video will just be be a free ad for Apple so win-win

You're acting like this is a bad thing. All those returned units will end up as less expensive refurbished items for people who would like to save $350 or more.

Don’t get me wrong. I’ll be buying one to try out. That ui will have to be on point. Just as advertised with the hand tracking and better look leaps and bounds better than quest 3.

I would be surprised if it’s anymore than the quest tho just better quality. Comfort level will have to be much better as well.

I’ll know soon enough.

it is a bad thing. Many units are taken away from genuine buyers.

It will take a fair while for the returned units to end up in the refurbished store.

Plus, I dont see refurbished being discounted that much especially if they never were faulty and just needed boxing up again.

But who would want to use it like that. You’d need a kb and mouse. Wearing goggles and hoping it’s stable. Will the hand tracking go all haywire while using a kb and moose? Who knows. Apple never felt confident enough to let anyone do this.

Refurbs are usually discounted at least 10%, which is $350 in the case of the AV. They are also never just reboxed.

Well, if you want to use it as Mac displays you probably already have a keyboard and mouse.

You're right. Apple designed this to also work with a BT keyboard and mouse, but they totally didn't do anything about that possible issue. /s

The iPad is 13.75 years old. You can buy a first gen one on ebay for under $50. You could have bought one for $500 and lost 90% of your money, or you could have invested in the S&P 500 and made an over 300% return.

The Apple Watch Series Zero is similarly going for under $50 on ebay. You could have similarly lost 90% of your money on that over the past 8 years.
The original iPad, new/sealed in box sells for $800-900, not $50. But still, not a lot of profit there for almost a 14 year wait.

surely if a unit is returned with zero faults and is just 'not wanted' then Apple will not be dismantling it.... or doing anything with it apart from putting it in a new box?
