If iPhone 15 Pro didn't get it then they would have no AI announcement to make at WWDC at all which would have been a terrible decision business wise.
They actually announced the M series chip and the advancements before it was released. They even released a developers Mac Mini with an A series chip. So there is that. Reckon that worked out pretty well even though it was pretty much lambasted at the time as being unrealistic.

Apple know what they’re doing even if everyone commentating want to incessantly crap on them for anything they do. They’re not in the miracle business, or the copy business. They push the boundaries of usability and to do that to their and our advantage.

The Apple Watch is the one Apple product that genuinely needs to get thinner. Between this redesign and the dropping of support in watchOS 11 this is definitely going to be the year I finally upgrade from my series 4.
Actually, I'd prefer if they keep the thickness but add battery life. I've held off from buying one due to the poor battery life.

The increase in size doesn't make sense. Apple has been actively marketing the watch for younger people, and a 45mm case will be too large for them. Also, many women find the 41mm the right size, and 45mm will be too large. If anything, they need to also make a 45mm Apple Watch Ultra for women.
You seem to be under the impression that bigger screen size means a bigger watch… 🤔

They are saying that the new 45mm will be the smaller watch... this likely means smaller bezels around the screen, so the overall case size won’t increase much if at all. My guess is no more rounded edges.

Making the watch thinner/more flush will also make a slightly larger screen feel look/feel better on a smaller wrist. The taller it sits on the wrist the more bulky a larger screen feels.

I disagree. It really needs better battery life first - when it reaches a week out can get thinner.

At a minimum, I think three days of activities should be possible with no recharge: charge it Thursday night, go away for the weekend, get home to the charger Sunday night.
That weekend threshold is a key one. But I'd like a solid 40 hours and I think that would get it done. I'm still bringing charging bricks on even a weekend away because my phone isn't close to making a weekend without a charge.

There's not enough room on the current displays to increase the screen size by that much.

I don‘t know. I just measured the screen height (only active display, without bezels) of the 45 mm S9 and it is approx. 37,5 mm. If they make the sides of the case flat and the bezels really thin, they might be able to squeeze a display of that size into the smaller Watch.

Have I ever been bothered by how thick my watch is? Never. Not once. Have I ever been annoyed by it's battery life? Not all the time, but pretty regularly.

See, for me it‘s exactly the other way round.

Agreed. Perhaps Apple just thinks that women should grow larger arms?

But if they’re aiming for bumping sizes then they probably also want to bump prices equally.

Forcing people to pay more to get more than they want is a brilliant business model.

I get 2 entire days out of my series 8 watch, every single time.
You are probably not working out then or your workouts are very brief and not GPS tracked. It’s about 10% of battery per 1 hour of workout with GPS tracking in my experience. I average 1-2 hours of such workouts a day and watch lasts me about 24 hours. This is obviously with always on display off.

I definitely don’t need an even bigger screen on my Watch. I won’t buy anything bigger. Thinner? Yes, but I’m done with the Apple ecosystem if they obsolete existing bands.
Dude they gave you a whole 10 years with those bands, that's unprecedented support for a product. I mean what more can you ask for? I'm shocked it's lasted this long to be quite honest with you.

Why not buy an Ultra? The significantly improved battery life seems to be the main reason for most people to get one. (All the sports related features, depth gauge, improved GPS, compass, etc seem pretty niche in comparison)

That’s probably true. As I said. Usually 30-45 minutes, and cardio in the gym. So GPS not required. Getting old.no need to do anything else at this point 🙂

Time to upgrade my Apple Watch:

View attachment 2389637

They make these things to last so long, I guess because you don't notice software slowdown as much as other devices. My wife has an S4 that still works perfectly for her. If it wasn't for my FOMO and need to have the latest and greatest I would probably still be rocking the S6, but alas the AWU was too tempting.

Apple is in the game of quickly outdating fairly recent devices again to resell basically the same product.

Super disappointed with the discontinuation of SE 1st gen support, this was on the market less than 2 years ago. The new (underwhelming) features introduced in watchOS 11 don't justify the decision at all. There is nothing that stands out as hardware demanding.

Also, look at the iPhone 14 pro and iPhone 15, people who bought them recently were in for a nasty surprise with the "no AI for you" announcement.

Then you don’t need WatchOS11 on your SE and can continue using it with WatchOS10.

From what I hear, including my own view point, battery time is by far the most asked for improvement.
Even a 2 hour increase would quiet most of the complainers.
There are many factors that affect the battery. I often trained without a phone in the field, where the
network coverage was poor. My Series 7 is ready for replacement, which I couldn't say about Series 3 and SE. Currently, training with the cellular network is a maximum of 18 minutes from 100% to 0%, after which it turns off, then on and stays at a stable 10%.
This is why I have no interest in anything but the wifi version of the watch.

Sorry, they shouldn’t hold back future products just to make you happy. Your incredibly dates SE will not suddenly stop working come October. I have an S5 that is getting long in the tooth, but I could easily replace the battery and hold onto it for another 2 years, and I am a heavy, heavy user.

They do not have “poor battery life”. Stop reading the BS. My series 5 is severely degraded and (with always in display off), I still get through the day even with a daily 2 hour workout. I only charge while I shower or before bed.

Best advice is to stick to the WiFi version and keep the always-on off. If you must be without the phone (granted, I never am), you can always load music/podcasts onto the device to get you through the workout. As I mentioned above, even an extra 2 hours of battery life would be welcome for heavy users like us. If I workout 1 1/12 hours in the morning and I want to 30-40 minutes on the bike at home that evening, I have to charge for at least 15 minutes. As I mentioned above, my S5‘s battery is at around 77%, and had they announced that only the S4 would have been dropped next update, I would have paid for a new battery and held off a year or two.

So, the current battery life doesn't really bother me on the watch.

I've got to take it off periodically, might as well toss it on the charger when I do. I'm certainly not going to sleep with it on.

What I don't like is how big it is. I shouldn't have gotten the 45mm, I thought I wanted the bigger screen (and sure, from a pure screen size question, I do) but it's just too big. No way I'm ever getting the "ultra" one, that would just be too annoying to wear.

So, thinner would be nice. I don't have much money tied up in bands; because it's just a watch band, I only buy the absolute cheapest I can find. My favorite is an adjustable stretchy band that was about $5, I've also got a $10 "Milanese loop" if I want it to look 'fancier'.

If they do this, I'll consider a new one in a few years when I can get a used one cheap. If they don't have the oxygen sensor turned back on by then I'd have to get one from outside the US, which would be annoying. I already have to get my next phone from outside the US so it has a real SIM tray.

I just upgraded last year from a Series 6 to a Series 9, and I've been very happy with it. So from my perspective, I'm definitely taking a wait-and-see approach to the redesign. Even if Apple does come up with a new band attachment regime, I hope it does NOT ditch the existing band design as there are so many of us out there with multiple bands that we're happy with.

Yep, and that's why i use a Garmin watch.

If this rumour is true, it works out well for us. My wife and I have a Series 5 40 mm and am due for an upgrade in the next year or two. The two issues I have are:

1) Apple seems to have designed WatchOS lately to favour larger screens. Even short messages get cut off. This was less commonly an issue when I first got the Watch.

2) It’s too thick for some shirts with cuffs.

While I like the 40 mm size I could use a size increase because of WatchOS’ design, and if it decreases in thickness, that could mitigate the increase in height.

Don’t worry. There will be some clunky $29 adapter for your old bands 😂

The Apple Watch Ultra is legitimately up there with the iPhone and the MacBook Pro as one of my three favorite Apple products ever. It was immediately perfect for me— such an improvement on the AW SE I initially bought to test the waters to see if I really wanted an Apple Watch. It turns out out that I did in a big way. I was never a watch person, and now I can't imagine not wearing it. Alarms to wake me up, notifications, health tracking features. I love it. Looking forward to seeing what they do with the product.

Looks like I’ll save some money getting the small version then. If the big one gets much bigger it will be too big for me.

Then you don’t need WatchOS11 on your SE and can continue using it with WatchOS10.
I've never used an outdated Apple Watch so I don't know. I don't know what third party apps might stop working properly or offer a lesser experience and at which point they will drop support altogether. I don't know what compatibility issues apps like Walkie-Talkie which I use a lot might present. At some point I couldn't use the app with someone who was on WatchOS 9 while I had upgraded to 10. SE was already a somewhat disappointing purchase (was influenced by online reviewers who pretty much said "it's the one almost everyone should buy over Series 6") with missing features like on screen keyboard and fast charging. Apple Watch is already poor in features for my use case and losing updates it's only gonna make it worse. A watch is a watch you shouldn't have to replace it every 2 or 3 years.

Little advice for battery health.

I power off the watch EVERY night and I have still have 100% health on my series 7.

Did the same with my series 0 and 5, and was the same years later.
