I don't think I need to be an expert analyst to follow this numbers. However, it could also mean an entire different thing, for example the delay on shipments for Series 4 AW could be because little inventory, not high demand. Anyway, I have to acknowledge I am getting a low end AW series 4 this time and I am still happily using my iPhone 6s. Not excited at all to upgrade. I'll wait another year at least. Happy with my audio jack and fingerprint sensor.

I love how random people on forums know better than Apple. Because Reddit! Good lord. Whatever a handful of people write on geeky tech forums does NOT remotely reflect the wishes of the average consumer. I can't believe that even needs to be said.

Apple used to make smaller phones. Android device makers introduced larger phones. And they sold. Apple held out for years before slowly increasing the screen size. And guess what? The sky didn't fall. They sold MORE phones. There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever suggesting the average consumer want a smaller phone. None. Zip. Zero. There might very well be a small percentage of consumers who do, but their numbers aren't large enough for Apple, or anyone else, to care these days. Sorry, but that's reality.
I can't believe how oblivious your comment is. Don't you think that people expressing an opinion all over the internet indicates something that may just be true? Don't you find it strange that everywhere I look people are saying such a thing?

The same thing was said about iPhone's before they made bigger screens. There was a clear desire for such a thing online and then it became reality. I believe the same thing will happen with a future 5" iPhone.

You will feel rather foolish when it becomes reality next year.

I don't buy a new iPhone every year. Last year I went from a iPhone 6 to the iPhone x. My 6 still worked great after the battery was replace because of a software up date that did not work well with the 6 but Apple paid for the new battery. I sold the 6 for $200.00.

Even though I could easily afford a new iPhone every year I don't see a huge leap in iPhone tech for another 4 to 5 years. Now having said that I have never owned an Apple watch and the new series 4 stainless is going to make me hand another thousand bucks to Apple this year. So,...... cool stuff brings a premium price and it's very apparent by the demand for their products, Apple makes cool stuff.

I’m not that surprised. I had a series 3 for about a week and ended up returning it. I liked some of the features but overall the design felt a bit dated. The series 4 though looks like a nice upgrade and I want one. The new proactive health monitor features are awesome.

As for the phone, I don’t feel the need to upgrade. I like my iPhone X and don’t really want a max version even though I was a plus iPhone user.

Apple has never worried about cannibalizing it’s own products. If there was demand, it would be filled.
You really fall for that marketing BS. Like when they claim they’re “green” and all. Of course they strategize to max profits.

Tim is even better at that than Steve was. Great for the shareholders not the consumer.

Even if your 5% was true (provide a link), by your rationale that would mean Apple should stop making Macs, since revenue share is now well into single digits.

5% of 1 billion devices is still a huge number of people.

But not enough for Apple to care. Are those 5% really going to switch to a different brand? No. They're going to buy the smallest phone Apple makes.

But... according to MacRumors forum users... everyone thinks the XR is a bad phone and no one will buy it...
Some MacRumors forum users are not iPhone users. And some of the actual iPhone users are just weird. The XR has a huge screen compared to the current 6+, 7+, 8+ without a bigger case. It actually displays the same amount of data as the XS Max.

You're the oblivious one if you think comments on Reddit reflect the wishes of Joe Average consumer. Everywhere you look? On geeky tech forums? Who cares what those people think?! People on tech forums probably account for fewer than 5% of Apple's total customer base. Their opinions are meaningless.

I've never met anyone who bought, much less wanted, an SE. I'm the tech-savy friend in my peer group, so I help everyone with their upgrades and such. No one has bought an SE. No one has wanted an SE. Everyone has wanted a BIGGER screen. There's my "evidence". It's just as valid as yours, which is to say meaningless as well.

Get over yourself. Apple would make a smaller phone if they thought it would sell. You're not smarter than Apple. You don't know something everyone else is missing because a few geeks on Reddit and MacRumors say they want small phones.

I have an X and did not see the point in going to XS. I had a 6 Plus, 6S Plus, and 7 Plus and though the X was a size downgrade and the new Max represents approximately the same physical size as my previous Plus phones, I am actually happy with the smaller size. Even though I am on a Next every year upgrade and could get one I don’t intend to. A Series 4 made more sense for me. Ideally I think the XR represents an optimal screen size, but I wouldn’t opt to downgrade from an X to an XR.

Is that was the XR is essentially.
I don’t follow your thinking, its all backwards.
Downgrade from an X to an XR ...?

I think the XS orders would be even less if the XR was available at the same time. I’m sure some people are ordering just because they don’t want to wait another month. I’m still going to hang on to my 7+ for at least another year. If the XR was 1080 as opposed to 720 I most likely would have got it. I’m sure as far as just looking at it, it will be similar to my 7+ but I didn’t feel the need to upgrade with the 720.

Do you think you can actually see the difference? It's a 6.1 inch screen. A _small_ TV is 3 to 4 times the size. Moderately sized TVs are 6 times the size. Big TVs are 9 times the size. There you might see the difference, but many people wouldn't. On.a 6.1 inch screen, any complaint is pointless.

No it does not. It has a resolution of cheap phone.

I agree. The XS Max will have people buying it because of the larger screen. I see lackluster sales on the XS though. People will get a better deal on the X right now and see little reason to go for the XS.
Trust me, I want Apple to sell tons of everything, because that raises the value of my Apple shares, but realistically, I just don’t see the XS selling very well.
It won’t sell as well as the original,X, it I don’t think it has to or Apple even planned for it.

There are still lots of people on old hardware that might want a premium phone in a more compact size. It’s still going to sell a lot.

More like a great phone being sold at an excellent price.

More like a decent phone being sold at a terribly high price. The screen spec alone is laughable for what they are asking for them.

Anecdotally, I don't know anyone who has an X (of about 20 people) that is upgrading.

Anyone on here with an X upgrading? To the Xs or to the Xs Max?

Yep. I’m upgrading to the max. Want a mint condition x?

You have absolutely zero idea how many people would potentially purchase said phone.
Apple does, and they’re not making it. And they’ve canceled the SE. But you sure seem to think you know.

My point is your anecdotal data is not relevant. Your friends, people on Reddit and the posters on Mac Rumors that you mention included.

Right. And you have absolutely zero idea too. Apple offered a smaller phone until a few days ago and those models clearly didn't sell well enough for them to keep making a smaller model. It's pretty obvious to any thinking person.

That was never a flagship device. It was always behind on hardware. No one wants Apple to build a low end device. They want everything in the XS with a smaller footprint.

I upgrade every year. Ordered the XS and expecting it on Friday. My daughter will get my X, and I will sell her 7+ (which was mine two years ago).

Been using this strategy for years.

I’ve also owned every watch. Daughter will get my Series 3, and her Series 2 goes to the good friend who bought my original Apple Watch. I’m going to keep the original. Doubt I would get much money on it, and I’ve always regretted not keeping my original iPhone. Or the iPhone 4... I loved that design!

I regret not keeping my original iPhone as well

I’ll make sure to private message you too when the news leaks from Ming Chi in the next 6 months. Take care.
