If people push Apple too hard, they will go back to not announcing anything until it is 100% done. We either get to preview the roadmap and live with delays when they happen, or we get to go back to being fully in the dark.
Yes but there is a big difference in that according to reports it was known to work properly before they announced it yet still went ahead with it anyway & that’s the point.
Is that what we do now just announce things on the off chance they will work in the future?

Projects of all sorts get delayed. Put a stake in the ground, plan it out and go from there. If this is a showstopper for a person, there is competition that probably does it better and more correctly.
Again there is a big difference according to reports there was no evidence to suggest that this would ever work correctly before the announcement & yet they still put it out there

The AI debacle strikes me as being trivial, when we went from OS 9.4 to X, an OS that was completely unusable for several years, Leopard being the first really usable version, no one apologised, why now ?
That's debateble. I think Panther was quite usable at the time as long as you didn't have an external firewire drive. ;)

Well that’s speculation that you’re hanging your hat on - which there is nothing wrong with. After all this is a rumors site.

This is a consequence of bending over backwards trying to please shareholders. They had nothing ready to hop on the AI wave and came up with this "Apple Intelligence" to stop the stock price from declining. Short term band-aid, now it's clear that it was never ready.

I personally didn't buy the 16 Pro for AI in the first place but they went all out claiming it was the killer feature that would make the device worth the upgrade yet it hasn't proved useful to most at all.

What if, and I know this is crazy, just punted on artificial intelligence in general, because it's mostly dumb and a waste of resources? This is seriously the dumbest technology trend ever. Please, let's give everyone more excuses to be lazy and stupid.

Because at WWDC that’s where these things get announced. Nothing works properly at wwdc and it takes apples a year (and more) to get all of the nooks and crannies working properly.
It was a concept video not a functional bit of software from back in June.
That wasn’t working at the best of times to begin with.
Again if they never announced this in the first place & then got it working correctly then this wouldn’t be an issue.
Like for example put something out when it actually worked & said coming soon

It’s not an issue today in my opinion.

It’s a delayed feature. That’s what wwdc is about. Getting the word of upcoming features out.

A class action lawsuit is definitely incoming. They sold iPhone 16 upgrades for Siri AI.

Go rewatch the announcement. It was all about ai. Now most of the features they promised have been removed or postponed. This may be the biggest Apple class action in history and should almost assuredly trigger Cook’s golden parachute to open.
I seriously doubt any court would consider marketing hype worthy of a class actions. Companies, especially computer companies, have hyped vaporware for so long it’s practically a required business practice.

The problem is in overpromising… Apple is doing quite a lot, recently. Stop announcing features not really almost ready.

Is there a software solution for AI ?
What if the real issue is the hardware to manage it almost completely on device simply isn’t there ? What if Apple underestimated the RAM and power requirement to have such a system wide feature managed on device (and not online like on Android) ?
Do not forget people saying “Google is doing that” is totally BS: Google Gemini requires a network connection even for set an alarm. Apple was looking for a different solution for privacy.
Gemini flash is on device and I just tested- put my phone in airplane mode and set an alarm. Not that I expect and Apple enthusiast forum to get details right on something outside the ecosystem

This is not the era of owning one's mistakes. It would have been nice to see them admit things weren't going great, but they were working their asses off to figure it out.

They’re also not our friends or our family….we’re customers of theirs. We pay the, for something that’s supposed to work and be the best. If they are “working their asses off” doesn’t really matter regarding this. Everyone makes mistakes, Apple too. I just wish they handled their mistakes like they do their logistics. Better than anyone else. 😎🖖

It’s a delayed feature that they couldn’t get working properly in the first place & that’s why it shouldn’t have been announced back in June because it was a concept video

Of course you would say that.
What is that supposed to mean, this is the second off-topic / insult of that nature.

Yes, that is what a delayed feature is. Apple did announce it in June. What were their intentions we will likely not know. But it was announced and now it’s delayed.

Cook can't do anything. Nobody can. This generative AI is nothing but a scam, it will never be "good". Sure, sometimes it can spit out some vaguely useful starting points, but 90% of the times is utter garbage. And everyone convinced of otherwise is just delusional.

(I will judge if you're delusional by the reaction you give on this post)

I have no idea what you’re talking about
By insult? If you mean your very pro apple regardless of anything

Again they announced something that wasn’t even working correctly in the first place & also done an advertising for said feature yet still had no signs of working correctly & yet you still don’t see why that’s an issue

That might be the case but there is a big difference this wasn’t working correctly to begin with & no sign of it.
Again they could easily have not said anything & kept working on it to at least September & then done an announcement if it was working correctly on devices if not then don’t announce it

Honestly I miss the way Jobs just communicated directly instead of saying how fantastic and amazing and incredible everything is. I think Apple products are just as good, if not better, than during the Jobs era, but I miss the direct, honest words instead of a faceless corporation that only says good and nice things about everything.

That’s the state of many things in June of the year at WWDC. It wasn’t out of line for Apple to do.

They haven't released it yet becuase most likely it isn't working the way they want. It would be way way worse for them to release it then have to pull it ...

They announced something back in June that wasn’t even working correctly in the first place & the head software engineer had doubts it could work & yet they still announced it & still put out an advertisement promoting it even though they couldn’t get it working correctly.
Yet they could have worked on this in the background until they got to a point where it started working correctly & either put out a surprise announcement & then the advertisement. That’s the issue
