I wonder if the rumored "cheaper" Macbook Air is just the Macbook Air getting a price cut (unsurprisingly considering the age of some of the components like the screen), or simply the retina Macbook completely replacing the Macbook Air at $999 (getting lost in translation as a cheaper Macbook Air).

Can't wait for the new iPhones (and the rumored dual SIM option).

I fully expect the MacBook Air to be refreshed only internally. The chassis should be retained as a cost saving measure, and to differentiate it between the more expensive MacBook and MacBook Pro.

The Air can be updated to include Retina and a cheap, low-power Kaby Lake processor (Pentium family).

Doesn't sound like this is going to happen. Seems like the new Apple is going to continue to follow the worst Android trends. Notches and huge phones.
Agreed. SE is the last honorary remnant of Steve...SE is the only phone left that has its design rooted in 4/4S, which was Steve's greatest baby of all time.

I doubt Apple would rejigger the Air just to put a retina screen in it. And Apple never touched the Pentium class CPUs (other than to demo the OS X Tiger on intel Pentium 4).
So my guess, aligning with yours, is that it will just get a refresh internally, keeping the rest the same (screen, etc), and drop its price. Not sure if we would even see this in an event. Probably just a silent update.

I really think the design of the Apple Watch works for what it is. I think it’s contemporary and it actually looks very nice paired with a leather band or stainless steel link. Is the Apple Watch in need of a refresh? Yes. I think it could be tweaked after three years of having the same design, and I believe those changes are coming this fall.

But since you commented on the “57 different varieties of strap”, that’s what makes the Apple Watch so unique, is that the customization is there with a variety of bands and materials for the user, and switching bands is perfectly executed and easy to do with the band port. That’s what Apple wanted.
Ergonomically its horrible. Design wise its just plain..plain. There's nothing elegant about a cuboid sitting on a human wrist (just start there - it doesn't sit comforatably for starters). Its not desirable - its the only option - thats why it sells. It really feels like they couldn't be bothered to design anything new and the fallback position was the iPhone case - but dinky!

It will be interesting to see how many people choose to upgrade to the new lineup of phones with lack of TouchID. I sold my 7 Plus and bought an 8 Plus to futureproof because this is the last iPhone I will be buying from Apple after they ditched TouchID.

Once FaceID comes on more affordable models, it will be interesting to see how the masses react to it. For me I find it too unreliable to warrant switching away from TouchID and I suspect this will drive demand up for the 8 this year.

Actually, the consumer portable should've been the Macbook. Macbook and Macbook Pro, simple. The Macbook Air was a transition period to a portable without optical drives, and Apple would've designed a Macbook to replace the Air altogether. But I guess they went too extreme with the retina Macbook with the single USB-C port, thus the Air lingers around.

Pretty weak on Mac...

Missing the mini.
I don't think so. Once Apple updated the Mac Pro, the Mac lineup will match the original segment Steve Jobs showed, iMac for consumers, Mac Pro for Professionals. The mini was more like a trojan horse at its inception to acquire new users, but was never really part of the original segmentation of the Mac. In fact, Jobs actually positioned the mini to replace Xserve in a sense (and many people used multiple mini as servers). It was an odd ball. An interesting one for sure, but definitely an odd one out.

Heck, I can argue that with Apple not doing Cinema displays anymore, they might just stick the iMac Pro as the Pro desktop. I'm sure there will be a lot of backlashes, but that is a possibility.

$600 - $700 would be sweet for a full-screen 6.1" device. I'm not getting my hopes up though. Somehow Apple will cripple it, either with an A10 processor, 1GB RAM, or a crappy camera. AMOLED display is not worth a $300 premium so there will have to be other major distinguishing features between this and the X.

We expecting Face ID 2.0 this year. Also, top Android manufacturers like Samsung and Huawei are all selling facial recognition.

Facial recognition in 2017 was full of debate and a learning curve, but for 2018 Face ID can go mainstream.

Roughly 3 months until the September keynote.

The Apple Watch has me intrigued. Let’s see what it will offer.

I want a new iPad, preferably the iPad Pro. Was hoping for a June release, now I’m holding out for September. I’m curious what the cost will be with Face ID. Oh, and FaceID better work in landscape mode!

I have a general idea of what Apple wants to do with offering 3 X-type iPhones this year. I’m curious if they will present an 8s/9 or will the the LCD 6.1” be touted at the 8s/9 - a redesigned version of the previous 8/8 Plus. I don’t see much of a reason for Apple to keep the old design at this point if FaceID truly is their future. I’m sure the 8/8 Plus will be around another year as their budget iPhone, but will they really discontinue the X? Can’t wait until September to find out!

I was interested in a new MacBook Pro possibly for next year, but not much coming out from that side of Apple... and at this point, whenever I see someone post about the Mac Mini, I have to take a moment to think about what it is. That’s kind of sad.

I slightly want to flip out. What about the Mac?

Don't want to whine and moan, but Apple's change in direction away from the Mac – as evidenced so clearly now more than ever before – is truly a loss for me. Been with the Mac since the early 90s.

Apple has lost the passion for the Mac.

It's still a money-making segment, but growth is leveling off -- probably due to lack of maintenance of their product line. Who wants to buy a years-old Mac when you can get the absolute latest PC? It shouldn't be all that difficult for Apple to issue motherboard/CPU/GPU updates annually to keep sales of their desktop computers going, but they can't be bothered.

I predict Apple ends the Mac within five years.

I think mobile devices will replace desktop devices in Apple's product strategy. Think about it... for at least 80% of the current market, the phone in their purse or pocket is all the computing power they need, and it's only getting more powerful. So, why not just dock your phone and use it as a PC?

A12, 3GB, LCD, single-lens camera, no 3D Touch (maybe software implementation). It will be pretty obvious who has a 6.1" instead of an X.

Anyone know if the new iPads are out in september or october?

Probably October with the A12X. It wouldn't make sense to launch a new iPhone with A12 and then have it superseded minutes later by an A12X.
