I dont want my phone always unlocking automatically when i look at it. Its as simple as that. I want control over exactly when it unlocks.
Which then begs the question - what difference in the user experience does it mean for you? So what if the lock screen is locked? So what if it is unlocked?

What exactly is the harm here? You pick up your phone to look at the time, then lock it when you are done. Who cares what happens in between?

How can the S10 be popular if it doesn't fold? I could have sworn that the tech media said folding was what made phones attractive to consumers in 2019.

Loving my s10+!!! It makes the iPhone xs look dated. And I love pip while I'm texting and browsing the web .
Hey lets all go over to some of the Samsung blogs and crow about how we love our iPhones!
Oh thats right..too busy living the dream to do that!

Ah, so then I have to be sure to hit the lock button every time after I check the time of day. And if i dont, and put the phone down, its unlocked for a bit (until it automatically locks again) for anyone to access

I for one am really digging the technological advancements on the S10+. Especially the 1TB of memory. I can’t begin to mention how often I wish Apple would pay attention(not that they aren’t) to Samsung and do something like them. Especially with their batteries.

I preordered the 512gb s10+ and have a 512gb microsd to pop in already :p

Maybe just set up your prefences, you don't need to unlock to check the time..you raise it up and the time displays.

No one is questioning whether faceID ‘works’. My point is that sonetimes when I grab my phone I specifically do NOT want it to unlock. I just want to see the time or whatever else is on my lock screen.

It's really easy to pick up a phone with Face ID and see the time without it unlocking. For example, if the phone is off to one side on a desk and you pick it up...Face ID is not going to unlock but you're going to be able to see what's on the screen.

The $900 USD S10, with 8 GB of DRAM & 10-bit color "video" capture, is the current "Benchmark" in smartphones !

I find it surprising that AAPL never figured-out that an iPhone with 6-8 GB of DRAM could be a BIG seller.

I find it interesting that Kuo doesn't even mention 10-bit color "video" capture ... it is a BIG deal !
Well maybe because the iPhone doesn’t need 6-8 GB of RAM to offer the same or better experience. Android phones by and large are not as smooth or fluid as the iPhone. The extra RAM may come in handy if you keep a ton of apps open like those artificial speed tests on YouTube but that’s it.

So you have to do some precise contortions to make sure you can see the screen, but the screen can't 'see' you. Very user friendly

I wish Apple had not abandoned the fingerprint sensor. I am not against facial recognition, but I still want a fingerprint unlock.

EDIT: Oh yea, and Samsung still offers a traditional audio jack. Apple screwed up eliminating these two things.

Abandoning the fingerprint sensor has been Tim’s largest strategic error other than not acquiring Netflix when they had the opportunity.

Under glass Ultrasonic Touch ID is the future. Samsung makes Apple look crippled with the 10. I'll stay with Apple for iOS, but Apple is going to feel intense pain from this devise. Especially the E model.

No reason to be in this position other than the continued lack of vision and direction by the Executive Team led the Tim. :apple:

Let me give you a real world example of how this could be an issue:

Let's say I'm on a first date (yes, that can happen even to non 'James Bond' people) I'm having a drink at the bar with her and after a few beers, I have my phone resting on the bar and it 'notices' my face so it's unlocked. Then I go to the restroom, and given that I've had a few beers, I forget that my phone could be unlocked. So while I'm away, she wants to see 'what kind of guy I am' and notices a text or two I may have sent to another potential date, or a text I sent to a friend about my expectations about this date with her ...

Yea, she shouldn't be looking at my phone for sure, but people are naturally curious so it's not like she's an evil person or something.
But bottom line, my privacy has been compromised, and she potentially sees something on my phone or texts she doesn't like, for whatever reason.

So basically, because I was a little careless, and she was a little curious ... our date is effectively ruined.

Samsung phones are waaaaaaay more expensive to own as their resale values are so low. Poor judgment buying a gimmicky box of crap ... says a lot about the kind of people who waste time and money on tenth-rate tat.

And how do you pick an iPhone up without activating Face ID? Seriously? Just cover the camera. Doh! No different to picking up a phone with a fingerprint sensor and avoiding the sensor. Dumb as feck.

If you're a musician it is an issue. With the older iPhones you could connect a keyboard to your iPhone
and run the audio out the headphone jack to a mixer with the new iPhones and iPads you cannot do this.
The BT works fine line is getting old..if you are just listening to music its fine.
If you are creating music it is not fine.

You can set it up to recognize you with a mask on, open preferences.
Doesn’t The adapter output what you need?

Next version will have the charger socket removed, too.
Hey it's a +1000$ phone. Buying an extra charger shouldn't be a problem ;)
Next the iphones will come in "biodegradable" :D plastic bags and you can pay extra to get the phone in a "biodegradable" box.

I'm picking this year to skip Samsung. I usually buy each years S series and the Note plus the iPhone but I need a break from all the phones. I don't think there are enough changes from my S9+/Note 9 to want to spend $1,000+.

Hardly a surprise, what samsung are doing is great and this is properly the best smart phone on the market in the eyes of most tech reviewers until the note 10 i guess.

That is your own opinion.
I wouldn’t know, hadn’t you told me.

Thanks for the advice nobody asked about. I will continue to express my own opinion regardless.

The S10 has better camera, better screen, larger battery, fingerprint sensor, faster charging, reverse wireless charging, 128GB standard, micro SD, headphones jack and €360 ($400) cheaper than the iPhone XS.

In EU people are buying android flagship phones, because they are significantly cheaper and offer no less features than iPhones...
Well yes 512GB S10 plus costs 150 quid less than my 256GB max while doing more...so for people these days it’s a no brainer./
