In fact unless apple starts stepping their game up they will be in big trouble from other companies too.

Stepping up their game? Samsung is using the fingerprint sensor under the screen specifically because they still can't provide face recognition tech that's as good as what Apple rolled out in 2017. Their SoC still isn't as good as what Apple has rolled out. The reality is that Samsung is relying on diminishing screen tech differences, camera lenses, and diminishing charging differences to compete. That's not a strong hand to play.

You should read the comments for that article: AI screwed up the test. Anandtech has a more accurate comparison. Individual users on AI posted screenshots of multicore scores on the A12 that are way above what AI posted in that article, so they botched something pretty badly.

Well, Appleinsider is the most Pro Apple site I know off. Can’t imagine they put something on their site that will hurt Apple or put biased tests online.

What I do know is that 2019 was the year Apple lost its speed crown. And together with the excessive pricing it could go down very fast. Remember Nokia? Or Samsung for that matter... Samsung went from 30% marketshare to 1% in China in a timespan of 2 years.

Wonder how Apple will go... because Apple isn’t the fastest company to respond anymore

I was reading that US military uses Samsung devices because they're secure especially due to Knox.

If iOS is safer why do they prefer Samsung? I chose iOS for the privacy mostly but I'm curious if Apple's safety and security is just marketing after all.

If you want to read all Apple is doing is great and all the competitors are doing is bad, evil and worse. Please do, when you’re not Pro Apple over there you’re banned from the community, believe me, I know :D

So I was actually pleasant surprised they showed off that the Samsung Galaxy S10 is speedier than Apple’s fastest phone.

They are using in screen fingerprint scanner as they see it as a better option. Apple are in trouble as nothing new is being added to their devices compared to the comp. IOS layout on the home screen is the same as it’s been for years. So IOS 13 needs to be huge.

My understanding is Samsung is more secure in some areas than iOS.

For example Samsung Knox is Hipaa compliant. iOS isn't

I haven’t read all the comments yet, but no surprise here.

The Galaxy S10 has the upper hand over the iPhone 10S and even crushes the iPhone in Speedtest.
I think 2019 will be an very important year for Apple. But as a customer I can only applaud this is happening. Seems Apple has to lower their prices and offer better and bigger upgrades in hard- and software to stay relevant.

The new snapdragon is beating the A12:

Look how bad the graphics go on the iPhone and how fluid they go on the Galaxy S10

But I’m afraid I’ll be hearing all these test are biased from some

Well the Samsung Galaxy S10 might not be that popular in the USA. But over here they are and considering the phone is doing all things better, even is speedier and I can get it with free air buds included for a third less than the iPhone XS... well, I think we have a winner.
Most ppl in here are iphone blind, I still like apple products though (omg the new iPad Pro is TERRIFIC!).
But heck yes! S10+ and headphones, for less than same price as the xs (not even xs max) is a SELLER!!

I’m affraid Apple will follow the Nokia route. Signs were on the wall for years. Together with their excessive pricing and stalling software I won’t believe they’re able to put out a huge leap with iOS 13. And if there is a huge leap forward, be sure Android does an even bigger leap. Time has proven.

Well rumours are dark mode won’t come straight away and it will come in 13.1 i mean seriously? That’s an epic fail if true.

People from the USA are forgetting that Apple is excessive priced outside the USA compared to competitors. Also apple’s services lag significantly if they’re working at all. So that’s more than a handicap than giving you benefits.

I can order the new Samsung S10 with free air buds a third cheaper than the iPhone XS. The Galaxy S10 has far better everything and as test show is even speedier as well. It’s Apples arrogance to ignore the fact they’re loosing the upper hand.

Both phones have to be imported and both companies pay taxes over here.... why is Apple so expensive?

Dark days are coming earlier :D

For everyone who is worried about this news, Apple will still release a new iPhone this September and you will still want it.

Well, since having a 3G, 4, 5, 6 and then SE we'll see about that. I didn't want the X or XS, removing fingerprint sensor, headphone jack while increasing size and weight has all put me off. I'd love a new iPhone but I don't want a phablet. If they make an X style phone with the screen size of the 6/7/8 I'll be all over it, I won't hold my breath!

For most of the developed world where people drive a car, having to take your eyes off the road everytime to unlock your phone feels like using a rotary phone. Fingerprint, on the other hand, can be unlocked by touch.

Not true. I can unlock my iPhone without taking my eyes off the road. The phone is in a mount just to the left of the steering wheel. To unlock I just move my head, eyes still on the road. With TouchID I had to take a hand off the steering wheel.

Samsung's been playing "spec differentiation" for years but I don't see why that would increase sales for these particular models.

Specs people actually want - Headphone jack, in-screen fingerprint reader, smaller "notch"/cutout, all an improvement over the alternatives.

I don’t believe the words from Apple anymore. I was a believer but after 2012 everything went downhill and profits were king. Apple has been a laggard for years. This time around they won’t be saved by their loyal followers because Timmy made sure he forced them out first.

The way I figure it is this. With Apple, they and my carrier have access to my data. With Samsung, Google, Facebook, which cannot be deleted, Samsung and my carrrier have access to my data. That’s one of the main reasons I chose Apple. Am I naive to think this way?
Yes.

Make that a double yes

I'm as unbiased as I can be and I have no brand loyalty other than what pleases me more with a device I use. We bought an S10+ for my wife to play with its camera. Meanwhile I am playing with it to see how does it compare to my iPhone X and whether I can use it as my only device or not.

I have to bend over backwards to make the S10+ feel as comfortable as my iPhone but depending how tenacious one can be to find an equivalent App or workflow to switch over to Samsung, it seems possible. For me my iPhone X is like a well broken-in old and comfortable shoe and Samsung is a much nicer looking shiny new and unbroken shoe that hurts here and there. Maybe if I use it more, it may become just as comfortable.

Hardware-wise though Samsung is clearly a much better device. The camera is superb and my iPhone's camera has much more noise in the dark, less sensitive and not as sharp. Samsung is way ahead there, no argument. The fit and finish is just as good if not better, S10+ is 1 gram lighter than my X despite being a larger device. It is just as fast and responsive. I wish it was made by Apple and run IOS, though Android 9 is nothing to sneer at it and it is much better looking visually and infinitely more customizable. Oh one more thing: Samsung cost less.

Anyone who still thinks Samsung is not a very serious competition to Apple is either uninformed and/or inexperienced. Despite using iPhone exclusively since 3G, I am tempted to push further to switch to Samsung because it is that good, but I don't think I will (yet) because I have to go through so many loops in order to do things I do so effortlessly with my iPhone.

Samsung's flagships haven't been competitive with the iPhone from a market perspective since the iPhone 4/4s era. It's actually kind of funny how hard tech sites try to present Samsung as if it's a major competitor that's challenging Apple.
Define competitive. I would say that, for the vast majority of users, phone technology reached a point where "competitive" is no longer relevant.

I find it interesting the "competitiveness" seems to be defined as things which are unrelated to the primary reason people use smartphones. For example the big thing for the S10 (over the S9) is the in screen fingerprint scanner and a triple lens camera. That's not enough to convince me to give up my S7 for an S10. Similar things could be said of the iPhone.

There will be some people who will buy everything Apple sells/tells. For me it’s value for money and the iPhone lost that. Unless iOS 13 will be awesome and the new iPhone will be of course... but if I put my hope on that, I’m surely going to be disappointed.
[doublepost=1551978366][/doublepost]
If the S10 turns out to be a hit (and still costs over $1K) then the argument that iPhone sales are down because of high prices goes out the door - and the next logical conclusion is....
It’s already possible to buy the Samsung Galaxy S10 over here with better everything and a third cheaper than the iPhone XS. I forgot to mention it also comes with free air buds.

I think Apple will follow the route of blackberry and Nokia because at the speed I see the improvements coming from Apple I can’t believe they’re able to keep up.

One thing that I've noticed between iOS and Android is the sound quality is much more clearer on a Android Device . Must more Base, clearer highs etc.. . seems like Apple forces everyone to stay at the same settings when it comes to music. But in general sound is much better on a Android Device.

I see you are going here again.
Firstly, when one's phone is unlocked, it is available to a passenger to use. Secondly, interacting with Google Assistant is no more dangerous than interacting with a passenger.
You brought it up. However if the of the requirement is unlock in the car different ways to accomplish this so that a passenger can use your phone. It’s illegal in my state to interact physically with your phone and if a cop notices that you will get a ticket. And no your last statement is patently false as evidenced by many studies.

As one conjecture is as good as another apple will swallow up the entire mobile smartphone model.

Time will tell... but I believe time is running out for Apple. It’s past time to deliver.

I have to agree. I've been using the iPhone since 3GS and since then I've changed a couple of models. And to be honest, I've been a die-hard fan once, throwing $!@# on the Samsung in the past. Not sure what happened but in 2017, I was able to use the Galaxy S7 for a couple of weeks and I instantly fell in love with all the technology that was back then unavailable on iPhone – wireless payments in my region, wireless charging, hi-quality camera. Not to mention that it included the cleanest Samsung UI ever, the Samsung Experience (actually developed by Google engineers). This all contributed to me changing my opinion and switching to Galaxy S7 edge that I'm still using as of today.

How is the s10 innovative? It's nothing more than an incremental improvement over the s9. The only innovative thing that could be said is the finger print reader and the hole in the screen. As far as sales tanking that could apply to any phone. Not taking anything away, but not to over-aggrandize the S10.

We’ll save the over-grandizing for Apple.
