Only members of the gear-head club will care about 120 Hz. As for the rest of us... Couldn't care less.
That's not true. As far as geeky specs go, 120 Hz is one of the first thing you'd notice, even if you're not a techy person. It's absolutely unmistakable when a screen has twice the refresh rate. It even tricks your brain into thinking the CPU is faster because everything moves so smoothly. It's the single coolest feature of my iPad Pro.

Here we go.. Apple dont include a feature everyone else has... Apple fanboys declare it as unnecessary despite never having tried it or seen it... wait 12 months for Apple to call it "Magic Scroll" (or similar stupid name) and all the same people on here will declare that "its magical" etc etc. Around and around every year.

A faster refresh rate is noticeable. It does make the whole UI feel smoother - try an iPad Pro or any recent Android phone. It also opens up high refresh rate gaming.

I think it is something you miss when you don't have it, like switching from a Pro iPad to a regular one.
To me, 120Hz is more important than 5G at the moment. If they only novelty of 12 is support for 5G, I'll skip this model and wait for the S year in 2021
From a marketing perspective, I guess 5G is more important than 120Hz this year, they're both taxing on the battery so if they had to make a choice 5G was the obvious one.

I am waving goodbye to Apple, no o2 monitoring on aw5 despite the sensor supporting it, this could have been given to us via an update, drip feed one feature at a time for maximum profit, this company doesnt give a darn about its customers or its reputation, Tim Crook is a greedy slug, I dont like Apple any more and I dont trust em, I am never buying anymore of their overpriced products.

For my part, reading the hundreds of comments here I suddenly realized the importance of the 60 vs 120 hz question. To think that I lived my whole life using inferior Apple products ... I will NEVER buy an iPhone that doesn’t have at least 720 hz. Or maybe Mhz.

Ya know, they could just make it slightly thicker, like people have been asking for, and then put the killer 120hz display in it with a big battery.
The problem is Apple has this perverted obsession with making their products thinner, even at the expense of features and quality of the product.
What are you talking about? I love thin phones and they are selling millions and millions of them to happy customers.

Honestly... I’ll probably go 5.4” this year, and whatever the smallest Pro is next year... I can’t miss the first 120hz iPhone, unless it also doesn’t have always on. If that were the case then I’d wait still more for the phone to have both 120hz and always on before I go pro.

at least, that’s what my rational mind says.

lets see how strong my willpower is after the iPhone 12 series is announced.

It's comforting to know that there are always "experts" here that seemingly know what everyone wants, what everyone needs, and what is unnecessary for 95% of the users. If it wasn't for you, no one would have a clue what they each need, want or is necessary for them. I wish I had the insight of an entire global communities needs...

You're welcome.

Awww cheerie o buddy where did apple hurt you?

Okay.... Get ready for the "yes-but"......

Yes, but, remember when Apple said on stage years ago that they weren't about being the first to market, just the first to "do it right"?

I think we should all just trust Apple that 120hz refresh isn't there for a very good reason, of which one of them might be listed here (but perhaps another one):

1. Heat
2. battery
3. ridiculous cost that they would have to pass onto consumer

A question for thought, though: does anyone seriously think that Apple COULDN'T make 120 hz refresh happen? They have a good reason for it, and 60hz isn't terrible.

But, like you said, it does seem silly 120hz isn't there in a 2020 phone. Biiiiiiiiig shrug from me why Apple wouldn't put the 120hz in.... reviewers will certianly have something to say about that. 🤷‍♂️
You know who listens to those youtube reviewers? No one, they might watch for a laugh but that’s it. Honestly would you really take advice from that guy on unbox therapy? You understand they get paid to say good things about products?

lol you are funny

No sir, giving users the freedom to choose is the essence of a good user interface. I hate when makers choose what I could choose. I can also choose the resolution on my phone and it's definitely a plus. Obviously. Nothing akward at all.
I‘m actually a believer that the company that has $2 trillion valuation and whom I pay high prices for well designed and well thought out gadgets for me has taken the time to research and come up with highly optimised devices for me and taken the labour of me deciding what best resolution is optimal or refresh rate.

If you want a DIY device buy a pinephone or go to highly customisable Android or Windows devices...

I can’t stand you DIY guys coming over to our Apple Sandbox and trying to make the sandbox like your DIY Hobby Kit. We love our sandbox, and we love Apple because we enjoy the sandbox they’re creating. If it’s too restrictive for you then go back to using those devices... but stop trying to make apple open up things just so you can get your DIY fix

It not a gimmick, it does work, its very available, and for the insane prices Apple charge, everyone in the market for an iPhone should be p**sed off that the 2012 iPhones dont have it.
Magic scroll? lol. Apple calls it ProMotion. It’s not just faster, it’s also slower. Apple offers it on iPad Pro, it may or may not ever come to iPhone.

If you want a phone with a 120 Hz refresh rate, buy one 🤷‍♂️

ha, no 😄. I've seen plenty of reviewers that say bad things.

did you see the Unbox Therapy Mac Pro wheel review/unboxing where he was silent the whole time? That was kind of funny, ha

What is this magic scroll you speak of?

All right folks, Apple’s website now says “It’s almost time” with a link to their event page. I never thought about it before but is this a phrase they usually put out before events...?
More clues that we have ourselves a watch event? 😄

I have a 6s and have been reluctant to update as the 6s keeps getting iOS updates. I'm running the iOS 14 beta and it's still very smooth. The battery is bad, but I have a battery case that helps me get through the day. I haven't been tempted by a new iPhone in years but think it's time to update. I'm trying to figure out what exactly has improved since the 6s that has radically changed the iPhone experience. I understand there have been improvements to speed and the camera and the home button has been removed in favor of a new unlocking method, but what else is new that makes the iPhone fundamentally an improved and more modern experience?
Depends what your use case is. For example, if your use case is you spend 5 minutes a day on the phone checking facebook and email, that would be a different answer than a heavy user who takes many pictures, uses the phone as their primary telephone for hours a day etc. 4 generations of phones, now going on 5 have multiple upgrades in the hardware department, which only the latest operating systems take advantage of.

But only you will know if a new phone will provide a cost/benefit.

19 pages of comments basically arguing back and forth about a feature iPhone never had and how terrible it’s going to be without.

I hope to God the Apple event that’s in four hours announces the iPhone 12. That way everyone that dislikes iPhones can get it out of their system and post about how they’re not going to buy it because it’s the most terrible thing there is. Then we can move on to something else about Apple LOL

My prediction is what many have said that the largest iPhone will have 120 Hz. This is due to the larger battery. Apple will not release a new phone with worse battery performance than the previous model

Why are people so upset without 120Hz...I thought most people commented that its not something you notice?!
