MacSheep Logic: Well this is nothing new to Apple they were the first to abandon the floppy disk, and ethernet ports from laptops, and all ports people use in everyday life for the obscure USB-C on their laptop line...so they are now abandoning chargers. Where are the "Apple is Doomed" protestors?

******
Sarcasm away, they can have two models, one that is phone only and one that comes with accessories which is extra priced, or a bundle like iphone+earphone+charger package. Given how people are so happy paying for $150 earphones, no one can blame Apple for not including earpods or thinking that people are not going to pay another $5-10 extra for a charger. Given Apple's absurd numbers of iphones sold, that really could mean something like 80-100 million chargers going to landfills...per year!

iPhone 12 models will not include EarPods or a power adapter in the box, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said today in a research note obtained by MacRumors. This lines up with a prediction shared by analysts at Barclays earlier this week.

Kuo said that Apple will instead release a new 20W power adapter as an optional accessory for iPhones and end production of its existing 5W and 18W power adapters later this year. The form factor of the new 20W power adapter is said to be similar to the 18W version, with USB-C Power Delivery for fast charging, as seen in the leaked photo below.

Kuo believes that iPhone 12 production costs will significantly increase due to 5G support, but he expects Apple to sell the new models at a comparable price to its iPhone 11 lineup, and removing the EarPods and power adapter from the box is one way to reduce costs. Apple would likely also tout the environmental benefits of such a move.

Barclays still expects Apple to include a Lightning to USB-C cable in the box as the only accessory included with iPhone 12 models.

Kuo also expects that Apple will stop including a 5W power adapter with the second-generation iPhone SE later this year, but he said that a 12W power adapter will continue to be included with current generations of the 10.2-inch iPad, iPad Air, and iPad mini.

Wait so all they’re going to include is a USB cable that you can’t even plug into any of their laptops? What do they expect you to plug it into?

....It probably will but at the crappy charge rate. Probably not a big deal since iPhone owners are used to it. It's not like 20W is the leading edge charging tech either nowadays.
Probably why mostly the batteries in my phones last years and years without a lot of degradation. Battery life trumps charging speed especially when my phones can be charged in an overnight charge.

I honestly don't care about the new phone missing a charger. I have several still wrapped in boxes with new lightning cables. Most buyers are upgrading and not switchers I assume.

Nobody said it was going to be a USB-A cable.

I'm done with Apple if they do this. Pure greed. Not supporting that.

True. Every other phone manufacturer is so charitable.

At this point I'm surprised it even includes a phone.

Repeat buyers might be fine without the headphones and charger, because they already have them. And they'll buy anyway.
However, if Apple want to keep expanding their user base, they need to impress first time buyers. These people want the whole shebang. And for most Android switchers, let's be honest even the cheapest iPhone is a premium phone. You need to give these new users a premium experience. This now is jut penny pinching, not the premium experience Apple has been excelling at in the past.

Can you imagine someone buying an iPhone for the first time and getting home to learn they cannot charge the phone because the charger is optional? People at Apple must be sniffing too much hand sanitizer.

any excuse necessary I guess. people who buy Apple products already have their panties down around their ankles. Now they actually turn around and say please, more, I want more! Don’t enable Apple like this. It’s embarrassing.

Apple supporters vs not are turning out to be more polarizing then pineapple on pizza. Honesty I literally have 6 of these things around my house. I would like the lightning cord as those fray and get worn out but I’m not bending over for anyone, I legit do not need it.

Where are they buying this phone? At Best Buy? Electronics store? You think they aren’t going to try to make the extra sale of a charger?

Apple store online? You think it won’t tell you that you might need a charger?

Imagine the look of iPhone owners who upgrade and don't have any existing USB-C charger to charge their iPhone. Support is going to receive a lot calls asking about missing chargers. Then the affected Social Media influencers will take over.

As stated in the article, Barclays expects them to include a USB-C to Lightning cable. Apple has had USB-C in their laptops since 2015; it was across the board in 2017.

Don't Panic !

This may only apply to new phones sold in the EU ,,,,,, you know , Europe. The EU is trying to make it compulsory to have a single type of charger and cable for all new phones regardless of brand, They have chosen the Micro USB. Apple isn't trying to rip anyone off or be greedy. They are just going with the best engineering design. Google search "Apple EU fight".

This is such a dumb move that I would only expect a company like Apple to do.

So there's a really high possibility Apple will pull this off.

Lol people usually get touchy when I berate Apples product pricing as too high but remove the charger and everyone goes crazy.

If this is true and they stand on stage peddling the virtue of saving the environment to mask their stinginess and shameless money grabbing someone should chuck an iPhone in Tim Cooks face.

If they reduce the price by the amount those accessories sell for then fine. But if they remove them and then try another price hike people should stop buying the product.

Although I believe O2 in the UK tried selling phones without cables and chargers a number of years ago and it fell flat and they stopped doing it.

Welp, guess i was wrong. Good thing i have a lot of chargers
I have a feeling that's why a charger isn't being included. At this point, there are few iPhone buyers who don't already have a drawer full of chargers. I've thrown away a ton of chargers, and I think that's the point. Most of these new chargers will end up in landfills, unused. If leaving it out gives us one more feature at the same price, I'm good with that.
