This is ********. It would be illegal. It has to come with everything that keeps it working or it won't be deemed fit for purpose. Consumer Rights Act 2005. In the UK at least.

So all electric appliances has to come with its own power plant, then?

Who are all the crazy people disliking the comments saying that a charger should be included in the box? Are you saying you'd rather be forced to buy a charger separately? I don't understand!

I'd rather have the option to buy a charger separately if I need one than to be forced to buy one because it's included in the box even if I don't need it.

Interesting that there are 30 pages of comments on this. You’d think that, true or false, this is bigger news than the introduction of the iphone, itself.

Everyone in the comments believing this is retarded. Sure, apple pulls sh*t now and then to earn more profits while getting free publicity for the sh*t they pull, but removing a necessity accessory is ridiculous enough that it isn't happening.

Sorry, the next iPhone will include a charging brick (probably lmao)

Worst source ever.

I don't believe this for one second. I don't use headphones but the headphones should be optional and lower the iPhone price by 10% LOL

Yep! That’s because ios14 and leaks have revealed most of what the next phones will be.

Removing charger and earbuds is just penny-pinching customers, who won’t put up with it forever. And the idea Apple will reduce the price of the phone is laughable - that is the exact opposite of what Apple does.

I meant introduction of the ORIGINAL iphone

oh, so it's just the charging block that they aren't including?
Yep

I agree with you — I’d rather go back to a dumb phone than give my life over to Google to datamine, but I think we’re in the minority (maybe not on this site, but in the general population).

Take my mother-in-law for example. She has the money for an iPhone, but for someone who only sends text messages, plays a couple simple games, and watches videos, she compares a cheap Android she can get for free (with a contract renewal) to an iPhone for $400-800 and doesn’t think twice.

Even my buddy who is in his early 30s and a doctor is tempted — he’s been put off by the iPhone price increases. Even though he can (obviously) afford it, it’s become a question of principle for him. Not including a charger will probably be enough for him to jump ship.

you know i'm perfectly fine being a minority. as a day 1 iphone owner i can't say i was thrilled when everybody and their mother got one within a few years(once it became available on all carriers in the u.s.)
when people who aren't software and design enthusiasts go for a cheap android, i completely get it. but when someone who loves an iphone goes for an android because of pricing - i don't :) besides, at this point apple has a large line up of phones, you don't have to get the flagship. but to each his own, as long as my wife doesn't buy an android i'm ok with this :)))

Tim Cook is short-sightedly stingy. This is the customer-relations equivalent of technical debt.
He’s been running the company for a very long time, and it keeps getting more and more successful, and is executing on some very complicated transitions.

I don’t know what “short-sighted” means in your dictionary, but how many years of success before you and the other Cook-bashers acknowledge that he knows what he’s doing? Is there some level of sales, some stock market price, some amount of money in the bank, some market share, where you have to admit that maybe he knows more than you?

Ridiculous. Only reason I could see them doing it is if they want to ease people with the portless iPhones next year.

Portless iPhone would make CarPlay almost useless for every car that has it as there isn't wide implementation of wireless CarPlay. Also, wired CarPlay will always be more stable.

I don’t think a large amount of cars have normal CarPlay either

I didn't need to watch the video. The box isn't big enough to hold a charger.

I am pretty sure most of their devices don't come with a charger. iPod touch (as you showed), airpod pro, magic keyboard/trackpad/mouse, aTV remote, and pencil. They assume you have something else to charge it.

Those are ridiculous examples. The only one that is comparable is the iPod.

That happened to lots of cars when they switched to lightning. Won;t stop apple from doing what they want in the end.

It is amazing to see the logic we need to accept this since people already have the power adapters why supply new!?

When buyers buy third party adapters (obviously Apple is going to charge anywhere between $49 - $179 under fancy names which many won’t be able to buy) it may create compatibility issues and spoil the battery and the experience.

People already have mobiles but still buy newer mobiles by extending the logic Apple should not iPhones instead just box alone!

When someone reselling their mobiles standard accessories need to be supplied over to fetch premium price.

I am not sure whether Apple going to supply the fragile lightning or USB-C cable along with that or it has to be bought out as well. Even third party adapters after sometime they are not accepted during charging saying it is not compatible.

If Apple supplements with wireless charger they may forgo power adapter. Otherwise it may be considered as bad step.

I'm fine with that as long as they give me a gift card to buy an accessory. I don't need the power adapter and earphones as I have plenty of them at home so I'd rather buy something else with a discount.
If they just ship the phone without power adapter and earphones at the same price, I'd be disappointed. Either a price cut (unlikely) or a gift card would be great.
I'm sure they could say it is to reduce e-waste and put a positive spin on it.

Apple may include a charger for the normal price, but an option would be to offer a $20 discount with no charger. So the iPhone and the charger would be in a separate box for these. I'll be surprised it will happen this year, maybe next. Apple has leaked this to test customers reaction.

If the rumor is true, the argument is that if they were to keep the accessories in, they would likely increase prices given 5G costs are much higher. (Yes, you could argue well they could make less margin, but this is Apple, a public company we're talking about, on their most profitable and largest line).

So the "discount" of not including the accessories is keeping the price of the "phone" the same, instead of increasing it. Maybe psychologically, consumers would prefer it if it was shown as a "discount", ie. Buy iPhone + 20W USB-PD Charging Brick for $1,049. Don't need the brick? Buy just phone for $999. Same outcome but less emotional reaction to it.

The included charger is not free, you are paying for it. Apple has been forcing the consumer to pay for their charger for years, and now you have a choice whether to buy an Apple charger or another manufacturer, or use what you already have. We don’t know yet what the phone will be like, what new features it will have, and what it will cost, but we do know that Apple will set the price based on its own formula, and that will not change regardless of what’s in the box.

shrug. because i don't already have a zillion chargers already and i need yet another one? i'm fine with this. no need to tack another $50 on the price and give me another one that will sit in a drawer.

And did the world fall apart? Or did we just buy a $4 usb charge cable?

Those of us who know to do that did, sure. There are plenty of parents who didn't realise they needed to do that, or that $4, non-Nintendo ones existed.

I think it's a mistake to assume someone buying your brand new device a) has the previous model, and thus a charger, or b) is tech savvy enough to know that they need to buy a charger separately (and which kind). If they do go this route, I hope they are _very_ clear about it, because Nintendo were not.
