Ive been saying for a long time all these product splits are nothing but money grabs.

If they were truly about making great products the only iPhones available would be the iPhone 14, no pro naming, just all the features of the Pro but just called the iPhone 14.

It would be at the same price point as the iPhone 14 also.
Of course they are. Apple is a business.

Then Apple are clueless. People dont want differentiation. They also dont want to feel like they have the dud model. There should be one iPhone , the best iPhone they can possibly make - one spec in two different sizes.
Exactly this. It used to be like that and it was much better. Now there are too many models and too much segmentation. Apple has a very confusing line up and eventually this will hurt the business as well as making consumers unhappy.

That assumes Apple views the shift of demand to higher price-higher profit margin iPhones as a failure. I think given the macro environment (inflation, interest rates, possible recessions, war affecting a major market), Tim might not be too bothered. Plus Apple is still using a fashion industry strategy (even though Ive and Ahrendts are gone) where haute couture/Pro-Max-Ultra designs are used to drive sales of ready-to-wear/non Pro-Max-Ultra merchandise. Disconnecting the launches would make it harder for the "regular" iPhones to grab onto the coattails of the high end phones.
I suspect there is no such shift. The pro might have good sales, but I suspect it doesn’t offset the very poor performance of the cheaper models. We shall see how the profits are, I suspect they will not be stellar.

I get differentiating between Pro and non-Pro, but I really don't like the idea of differentiating on screen size...other than, obviously, the screen size.

NOT. EVERYONE. WANTS. A. GIANT. PHONE. JUST. TO. GET. THE. BEST. FEATURES!

In the era of outrage culture, I can't believe more people, i.e. women, aren't denouncing this trend. Are they being punished for having anatomically smaller hands compared to their male counterparts? Maybe that's one way to get them to make a iPhone 15 mini -- accuse them of sexism. 😂

Do people actual enjoy using these giant phones? They are annoying to use. Here's my rule, if you can't touch the top corners with your thumb, it's too big.
Speaking as a woman with average sized hands. One hand usability for women with hands my size ended AGES AGO. Seriously, the iPhone 5 was probably the last phone I could use comfortably one handed.

If I have to use a phone with two hands (which again if I want to use a phone from the last decade that is the case), I personally prefer to get the largest size I can get. They all fit just fine in my purse. And absolutely no phone fits in the horrible tiny pockets that exist in most women’s clothing.

We’ve long needed MUCH more expensive options. An adult doesn’t drive the same car as their kids, wear the same watch as their kids, etc. why should we have the same phone as every pimply faced high schooler?

Take your jeans to a tailor, they can increase your pocket size inexpensively. Your Pro or Pro Max will fit well sitting or standing.
You just need some bigger pockets ;)

Dear Apple.

Why not reward your loyal (and well paying) Pro Max customers with a phone UI that isn’t EXACTLY THE SAME as your smallest iPhone.

All that is needed is a Display Zoom “Small” setting. If you can scale the UI larger it can’t be that hard to scale it smaller! Restrict it to the Pro Max if you like. But give us the ability to fit more apps on the Home Screen (and maybe more widgets on the Lock Screen) please!

Just saying…
something iPad users have wanted for years while living with essentially the same icon grid as the phone.

I'm sure some people and woman want a giant phone, but if it's hard to operate, it's not ideal. How about letting consumers choose? Put the same features in every model and only have one larger version using the 'Plus' name. No more of this 5 different models nonsense, it's too confusing to a lot of consumers.
I think most people with large phones just use two hands on them, when needed. Not a big deal.

People aren’t really all that confused. In many cases they are price driven and choose a phone based on a price range and size. Apple’s current lineup allows them to offer a couple different sizes in a range of prices. The phone market is big enough that tailoring it for specific submarkets like that results in greater overall sales.

Does everyone forget the first time two iPhone lines were introduced?

iPhone 5S and 5C did essentially what the 14 and 14 Pro are doing. iPhone 5S had new cameras, A7, and slim aluminum design. iPhone 5C had an A6 processor, slightly improved cameras from iPhone 5, and a silicone/plastic molding for the back case.

It kinda makes sense what Apple did this year; it’s just that we’ve gotten use to the a whole new lineup now having the same specs per class of iPhone.

If this allows the design teams to focus on a better pro/new ultra tier, then I’m okay with it.

I use a Max phone, but definitely agree that there should be a smaller iPhone with as many Pro features as possible.

I REALLY miss the days of the iPhone 4 and 4S, when the highest-spec iPhone was not a giant brick. Now we really only have one one-hand-usable iPhone, and while it's no slouch, it's well behind the Pro Max Ultra brick.

I feel even better about waiting to upgrade and having bought a nice digital camera. If I want to take snapshots, my current iPhone is good enough and doesn't pull my pockets off my pants. My digital camera outdoes the Pro Max phablet and has nice tactile knobs. For me, Apple's sorta flying too close to the sun.

"Apple's current lineup allows them to offer a couple different sizes..."
Except a size option that you can use one-handed, such as an iPhone 14 mini. 😜

Why do women prefer to have the iPhone max? I swear all my female friends and colleagues have the Max.

Yet somehow it’s currently the best selling of the new models.

You state that like it’s a fact, but I bet you have no actual numbers to back that up unless you are a very senior Apple executive. Also, the Pro models are likely to experience a spike in demand at release and just after as that is when tech enthusiasts and early adopters will purchase a new phone, which even if you had figures, would distort the popularity of the 6.7 pro max if interpreted at this stage in the cycle. It is likely that over the course of the entire cycle, the 6.1 inch standard 14 will sell the most, followed by the 6.1 inch pro, with the two 6.7 inch models way way behind

Serious question:
you want USB C because
it is easier to charge ?
transfer lot (~200 GB) data to your system every day ?

The reason i ask is
i never connect my phone to my laptop/desktop.
i have so many lightning chargers and cables, i would have to just throw them in garbage now.
I want USB-C to have a single cable.

I also transfer a lot of data to my 1TB iPhone.

Also, backing up and restoring to my iPhone 14 Pro was a pain in the ass this year. It was way too slow to back up, I couldn't use my iPhone all day. Resorted to iCloud.

Well, just like the transition to USB-C from USB-A, the transition is going to suck, but it's worth it in my opinion.

I imagine Apple not putting features in the 15 Pro that they can just to put them in the 15 Pro Max so people have to pay more.
Have you imagined the possibility that it might not be possible to fit all the features in the space the regular Pro occupies (without negatively affecting other features such as processor or battery life)?

Why should the Max/Ultra model be artificially held back by the limitations of the size of the regular Pro model?

I hope this doesn't become true. Moved down to the 13 Pro after having 2 prior MAX phones. Like many that have commented, I don't need or want the extra size, I want the cameras and other improvements however.

That would be frustrating. I, for one, like the higher end features of the Pro models, but I can't stand the giant phone.
This. I was glad they finally gave the Pro the same exact features as the Pro Max. I tried the Max a few phones ago and it’s just simply too big for me for comfortable single-handed use.

I would be quite irritated if they revert back to giving the Max more features, when they’ve clearly proven they can be the same, with only the screen size and the battery being bigger.

But isn’t this the same case with the MacBook Pro? People just get to choose the size they prefer, without having to worry about different features? Why not keep it going with the iPhones?

Also, they could potentially add Thunderbolt when they switch to USB Type C.

I suspect the people who buy upon release would opt for the Pro models, whereas over time the sales distribution will normalize.
