And I regret it bc I have some nice shots that can never be blown up bc of the low mp. A higher mp camera really would be quite an upgrade to me, how about yourself?
My dSLRs are somewhat older. The iPhone's computational photos are actually better in low light (at least with the main lens) than my dSLRs. The iPhone also takes 4K video with a very user friendly interface.

For certain stuff the dSLR would be better but I'm no pro and I wouldn't even call myself an advanced amateur these days, so it's hard for me to justify spending $2500 to get yet another dSLR, to only use it occasionally since it weighs so much and takes up so much space and requires additional spending on batteries and what not.

The one thing I hate about the iPhone camera is the fake bokeh for portraits though. So, if I KNOW I'm going somewhere where portraits are going to be important, I'll take my Canon EOS dSLR and dedicated portrait prime lens. That's because even after all these years, iPhone fake bokeh still sucks. Computational photography can only take you so far. Proper bokeh is not something the iPhone has conquered yet.

personally would rather have a phone 12mp but bigger sensor for better light grabbing photos than high megapixel fake over sharpened photos that we usually see now in iphones. If I want to take high pixel photos i just use my camera , this just seems like a huge waste
You get pixel binning with high resolution sensors. If you have a similar size sensor, it's not a disadvantage to have more pixels.

But Cinematic Mode will still be 1080/30 with fake depth of field? Telephoto and ultra wide sensors will be 12mp and no good in low light?
The iPhone camera has lots and lots of disadvantages. But like I said, I use it more than any of my other cameras because the iPhone is always in my pocket.

I'm not shooting TV commercials or movies, nor am I a fashion photographer or whatever.

All the cases I’ve seen (that I would actually ever consider buying) including the Apple cases have a camera bump for the iPhone 13 pro. So I don’t understand this “just put it in a case” response.

I don’t really mind the camera bump on my iPhone 13 PM but I do think it would be nice if Apple could get creative in their solution instead of just continuing to increase the same square camera array in the corner. Look at the pixel 6/6 pro. Love or hate it you have to admit they found a new approach to the ever increasing camera size problem and it has some benefits (no rocking).
Reports are the Apple is working on switching the telescopic lens to a periscope design that would be more compact.

so the selling point will be 8k video? will the iPhone pro screen be in 8k too? why is the Studio display only 5k? and my home TV only 4k?
I do know that Pro's move over to 8k, but what's the point for the iPhone?
Better tele zoom capabilities would be a selling point for me, but 8k is not ...
8k allows you to crop in with not that much perceivable quality loss. Is will also allow the image stability to be improved.

The don’t make the phone with just you in mind. Some people use features that you do not.

the bump, the weight, the thickness... and I hoped to get a 6.1mm 100g iPhone 5 style device one day, will probably stay with the 12 mini for many more years

Oh boy. trouble in Paradise.

By now they might as well just release a camera that can make phone calls and name it the iCamera

and for us who want a phone and rather pay just for the phone release, you know.... an iPHONE

they just released it like last week, I mean, some people do not even know its out... I am speaking of the SE.

Lets not forget that the Russia-Ukraine war might have something to do with weaker than expected sales.

I think this is exactly what they’ll do. The quality of the photos will improve dramatically and be a huge feature of the Pro series.
Yes, if they have 48MP sensor - they have no other choice really. Nokia did this with some of their old smartphones and the results were stunning.

I couldn’t care less about better cameras each year. More reason for me to get the non-pro iPhone 14.

I wonder how far this will go?

Will some people be carrying around an 8" screened iPhone 18 Pro Max Platinum with 8 camera lenses on the back?
Obviously not. There will come a time where we will have only one camera again. A ginormous one, but only one.

Absolutely annoying all this attention and Apple's focus on the camera performance each and every year. When it is enough?

Why not make the phone thicker to compensate for the larger camera system? It seems like the iPhone camera will intentionally never be flush again.
The camera bump is already just under a third of the total thickness right now. If it was made flush it would add too much to the weight and feel too thick, especially for the larger iPhones.
