Not really. Takes a million years to charge, you can’t use your phone while charging and good luck just trying to charge it laying in a backpack. Oh and let’s not forget the heat and the impact on the battery.

Guess I’ll be holding onto my 12 Pro Max for another year and get the battery replaced eventually. That’s the only thing that is starting to show it’s age

Honestly suprised its taking them this long to implement USB-C... its a bit ridiculous that a pro device with ambitions of 8K video capability won't have USB-C. I'm still anticipating the switch this year tbh.
USB-C says nothing about the speed of the port, USB-C is just the connector's name.

Wireless Charging requires direct placement in order to properly charge, and I find it’s inconsistent at times, Especially when it moves around in the car due to motion.

And I’m also not entirely comfortable with how warm my iPhone is when it is wireless charging, which can’t be healthy for the Li-ion battery.
MagSafe addresses your first issue of proper placement/inconsistent charging. That said, the battery health of my 12 took the biggest hit out of any of my previous iPhones that used wireless charging, and I used the MagSafe charging every night. When I upgrade to the 13, I went back to charging via cable.

Obviously Apple will transition products from lightning to USB C over time. Apple invents proprietary stuff when the standard thing isn't good enough. Eventually, the standard catches up and Apple adopts the standard. In the meantime, the lightning connector has been a joy to use for the last decade instead of mini or micro USB.

USB-C and the rumored 'periscope' zoom lens system would definitely give me a reason to upgrade from my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Sure, wireless charging and data transfer is ok in most cases - but sometimes there are reasons that a wire is better and more desirable. I certainly don't want "portless" phones taking over.

MagSafe addresses your first issue of proper placement/inconsistent charging.
It addresses it with a slight caveat, which is only specifically for that product from Apple. The majority of consumers likely aren’t using MagSafe products due to the higher costs and more limited availability, when you look at the considerable, wireless cheaper options that are available virtually everywhere in store/online, which are all using the same technology that requires direct placement. And this is coming from somebody that has used many wireless chargers, and they all share the same flaw, which it has to be in exact position for the wireless charging to take affect.

This would be great but also somewhat difficult to believe since Apple has kept the Lightning port on some other recent products (new keyboard, new AirPods,…) where using Lightning instead of USB-C really has zero advantage.

The new feature will probably be first introduced on the 2023 folding iPhone.

From ADC to Lightning, we've come full circle...and still have an ADC card (two of them!) and a few Lightnings.

Hell no to wireless charging. It'd be a huge environment issue.
It's absolutely not a "huge" issue. It's a tiny issue …

An iPhone uses less than 5kWh a year. If the efficiency is 50%, that's 5kWh wasted per year.
The average US houshold uses 11,000kWh per year. So that's 0.05% increase per phone.

Yes, it adds up globally. But it's ridiculous to even talk about, given all the actually huge environmental issues out there. Compared to all the energy wasted through inefficiencies in a typical household, it's a rounding error. Stop telling yourself you're a hero of the environment for saying no to wireless charging. Better take a hard look at your next TV, fridge, dryer and car …

It is about time to switch to USB-C, as we need the faster file transfer speeds to upload PRORES videos and other media than the slower Lightning port can handle.

I hope this is true but im sure he said the 2021 iPhones would be usb-c.

I dont think they make that much money from it. How many MFI devices does the average person buy per year? I'd bed its less than 1.
I don't remember him ever saying this?

Lol. Once the 14 gets released, the new report will say the 16 will get it instead of the 15.

I did that last night. It was on battery charge holding (to be completed prior to waking up). If it was on a cable, it would have been maintained. Because I took it off, it then moved to a full charge when I put it back on, thus reducing the built in battery saving system Apple have implemented.

iphone needs usbC and not inductive charging
Since now we have proRES and others...to mess up with transfers as low as lightning port, is hilarious
