We reached peak iPhone a few iterations ago

It’s becoming laughable at this point

Please. iPhone just recently got spatial video for compatibility with both current and (presumably) all FUTURE vision hardware. This new video capture stuff is flying way too low beneath the radar IMO, two words: game changhah

The only reason to buy a new one is because the battery performance decreases and since we don’t have the right to repair we end up buying more or less the same phone every year. With a new button. That’s innovation!.
Long time since iPhone “just worked”, Bluetooth is broken in many iPhone models with iOS 17.x (seems that it depends on the chip of your iPhone).

The Capture button can be a very useful addition. Looking forward to hearing more about it.

Wait, what? You cannot get your battery replaced? Just checked and it would cost me 99 euros.

Honestly, you'd have to be a complete buffoon to get the 16 this year if you own the 15 pro or even the 14 pro and most people are only upgrading because they're bored, that's iOS problem, not hardware.

It's going to have the smallest display increase the iPhones ever had, 6.1" to 6.3" and a capture button for spatial video that 99% of the public will never use because they're not stupid enough to get the vision pro.

15 Pro has everything for future proofing, USB-C, Action button, titanium, dynamic island and iOS 18 will freshen up iPhone more than a new model.

Ross young says 2027 is under display cameras so that's probably the best time to upgrade, Face ID goes under display in 2025 but can't see that changing dynamic island that much.

Save your $$$ and buy a new battery in 2025 instead.

Foldables may be a buzzy category but they don’t actually constitute a lot of shipments, so I doubt the absence of a shipping foldable is gonna hurt Apple’s bottom line for the time being. Moreover, most foldables currently have mediocre water/dust resistance and overall durability compared to slab phones—and I don’t think Apple would be willing to ship a phone that features regressions in those areas.
Hi, I’m Sheele! As a full-time tourist branded media content creator working on the beach on demanding environments requiring water and dust protection, I’m so glad the new iPhone ™ is certified Hype 68 ! Yay !

Would be truly innovative and magical if Apple skipped a year and slowed down the cadence of their iPhone upgrades. Seems like they are stuck in a yearly upgrade cycle for no other good reason than to appease the board.
Blame Cook.
He rather save $$$ by using the same design for 3+ years than push his team to rebuild & redesign the iPhone front eh ground up. There’s so many things they could do the iPhone . Yet $$$ over the consumer .

I think the iPhone 16 will be last iPhone based on the "current" design. The iPhone 17 may be the first significant redesign in several years, mostly because of the upcoming EU mandate for user-swappable batteries. It may result in a thicker phone to accommodate the user-removable battery pack, which would have the effect of also eliminating the camera bump, too. This change will also likely change the design of the Samsung Galaxy S models by 2026, too.

iPhone 16 models launching later this year will not have any "significant design changes," according to Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Kuo also said that Apple is unlikely to offer "more comprehensive" generative AI features until the iPhone 17 series launches next year at the earliest.

"It is expected that Apple will not launch new iPhone models with significant design changes and the more comprehensive/differentiated GenAI ecosystem/applications until 2025 at the earliest," wrote Kuo, in a blog post on Medium today.

Kuo believes foldable designs and generative AI features are two of the biggest trends for high-end smartphones right now, and he thinks iPhone shipments could decline in 2024 as a result of Apple not launching products focused on these areas yet.

One notable hardware change rumored for the iPhone 16 lineup is the addition of a so-called "capture" button for video-related actions. According to a recent report, the button will respond to pressure and touch. For example, the report said users will be able to zoom in and out in the Camera app by swiping left and right on the button, focus with a light press, and start a video recording with a more forceful press.

The higher-end iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models are also expected to feature larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, compared to 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Is a new button and a larger display significant or not? Ultimately, it's subjective.

I know many want bigger and bigger phones. I am not one of them. Please, stop increasing the size! I believe the one reason why then mini didn't take off was not the size, but the battery life and non-pro features. I would have bought it in a heartbeat had it had better everything, even if the battery suffered a bit. Ultimately, just stop increasing the size!

Only if the upgrade becomes more than what the 1
Lame, but expected. Hopefully we get a decent new color.
reminds me of the Dalmatian iMac update year. Literally a paint job upgrade year with barely anything else changed. Didn’t go down well lol.
