iPhone 16 models launching later this year will not have any "significant design changes," according to Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Kuo also said that Apple is unlikely to offer "more comprehensive" generative AI features until the iPhone 17 series launches next year at the earliest.
"It is expected that Apple will not launch new iPhone models with significant design changes and the more comprehensive/differentiated GenAI ecosystem/applications until 2025 at the earliest," wrote Kuo, in a blog post on Medium today.
Kuo believes foldable designs and generative AI features are two of the biggest trends for high-end smartphones right now, and he thinks iPhone shipments could decline in 2024 as a result of Apple not launching products focused on these areas yet.
One notable hardware change rumored for the iPhone 16 lineup is the addition of a so-called "capture" button for video-related actions. According to a recent report, the button will respond to pressure and touch. For example, the report said users will be able to zoom in and out in the Camera app by swiping left and right on the button, focus with a light press, and start a video recording with a more forceful press.
The higher-end iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models are also expected to feature larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, compared to 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Is a new button and a larger display significant or not? Ultimately, it's subjective.

Much needed features: better cooling, bigger battery, hide the ugly faceID notch under the display, cut-out for front camera, solid state buttons, thunderbolt usb c like the ipads, more RAM that will be much needed for the next feature: fully open sideloading so developers can finally take full advantage of the phones hardware bypassing the extremely locked system Apple forces on everyone. THIS is what will finally make me switch to iPhone. Idc that they're years behind on AI, it's all gimmicks for now

nothing to get exited about again
It’s the iPhone 15s
The iPhone 16 should be named iPhone 11sssss.
Maybe they'll just redesign app icons and a pair options on settings. Biggest iOS redesign, ever...I thought we just had an article a week ago saying that iOS 18 is the largest OS update ever, built entirely around AI? is that off the table or are they just saying there won't be special hardware tied to AI until iPhone 17 or later? If AI plans just rolled over and died for Apple in 2024 that would be hugely disappointing.
There was also an article claiming a big camera-bump bump.I thought we just had an article a week ago saying that iOS 18 is the largest OS update ever
More camera lenses!I just don’t understand what else people want.
You and I are in the same boat, except my XR battery is still at 87%.Well for myself boring is good. Looking to replace my 10XR
- battery at 81%
- probably incompatible with iOS 18
- if I wait any longer the phones will just get bigger
Since I keep my phones for awhile, getting the newest boring phone is a positive.
Probably an iPhones 16 since it will be the smallest of the lot, perhaps a 16pro if it weighs less
What I wouldn’t want from Apple is that they focus so much on the iPhone (because it’s basically funding the entire company) that they don’t give their full attention to other products.
Agreed! Or bring back the S model with no fanfare but a press releaseWould be truly innovative and magical if Apple skipped a year and slowed down the cadence of their iPhone upgrades. Seems like they are stuck in a yearly upgrade cycle for no other good reason than to appease the board.
I hope you understand that the Vision Pro Team is just a fraction of the whole Apple R&D and product line… It’s not like Tim has been sitting playing with it every day.Yes, but that courageous keyboard replacement physical was 17 years ago.
I don’t think anyone is suggesting to get rid of the iPhone as it is now, but adding to the existing line up.
Foldable, flexible displays are here. Throw us a bone. New form factors and thinking outside the box, and pair it with a reimagined iOS beyond a grid of icons.
Instead, Apple spent a better part of a decade and placed their bets on the VisionPro.
If that’s Tim’s vision of the future, it will certainly be part of his legacy win or lose.
