Would love the new displays to not only be larger but also benefit from the reduced reflection advancement in Samsung display tech as showcased on the new S24 Ultra.

The year to year incremental changes in the phones just aren't worth it. I still regret upgrading from a 13 to a 14. Could easily have waited to a 15 or 16. The 14 won't upgrade until the 17 for sure.

Apple's got a real problem - iterative changes aren't going to keep the upgrade cycle going for the mass market, and as the price climbs it'll only make it worse. The rumored iPad prices are the same - I have to upgrade this year, but at the price point, that too will become an every 3 or 4 year change. Mac's as well - M1 to M4...the M3 just won't do enough to justify the cost.

iPhone 16 models launching later this year will not have any "significant design changes," according to Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Kuo also said that Apple is unlikely to offer "more comprehensive" generative AI features until the iPhone 17 series launches next year at the earliest.

"It is expected that Apple will not launch new iPhone models with significant design changes and the more comprehensive/differentiated GenAI ecosystem/applications until 2025 at the earliest," wrote Kuo, in a blog post on Medium today.

Kuo believes foldable designs and generative AI features are two of the biggest trends for high-end smartphones right now, and he thinks iPhone shipments could decline in 2024 as a result of Apple not launching products focused on these areas yet.

One notable hardware change rumored for the iPhone 16 lineup is the addition of a so-called "capture" button for video-related actions. According to a recent report, the button will respond to pressure and touch. For example, the report said users will be able to zoom in and out in the Camera app by swiping left and right on the button, focus with a light press, and start a video recording with a more forceful press.

The higher-end iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models are also expected to feature larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, compared to 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Is a new button and a larger display significant or not? Ultimately, it's subjective.

Much needed features: better cooling, bigger battery, hide the ugly faceID notch under the display, cut-out for front camera, solid state buttons, thunderbolt usb c like the ipads, more RAM that will be much needed for the next feature: fully open sideloading so developers can finally take full advantage of the phones hardware bypassing the extremely locked system Apple forces on everyone. THIS is what will finally make me switch to iPhone. Idc that they're years behind on AI, it's all gimmicks for now

I enjoy holding my 6s more than I do my 15 Pro Max. As much as I like the 15 edges, I prefer rounded and something lighter. I don’t see a problem with aluminum being used on a pro model. We had it before as a top-of-the-line phone, but somehow titanium covered aluminum with a glass back is considered premium because it’s heavier. I also think MagSafe is kinda lame. I also prefer a vertical camera layout on the back instead of square . Horizontal like on the pixel to me is ugly. On the software side a back button and the ability to schedule messages to arrive at a certain time ahead of time would be cool. Yes, I watched the Jerry Rigs Everything video.

nothing to get exited about again
It’s the iPhone 15s
The iPhone 16 should be named iPhone 11sssss.

Well for myself boring is good. Looking to replace my 10XR
- battery at 81%
- probably incompatible with iOS 18
- if I wait any longer the phones will just get bigger

Since I keep my phones for awhile, getting the newest boring phone is a positive.

Probably an iPhones 16 since it will be the smallest of the lot, perhaps a 16pro if it weighs less

I thought we just had an article a week ago saying that iOS 18 is the largest OS update ever, built entirely around AI? is that off the table or are they just saying there won't be special hardware tied to AI until iPhone 17 or later? If AI plans just rolled over and died for Apple in 2024 that would be hugely disappointing.
Maybe they'll just redesign app icons and a pair options on settings. Biggest iOS redesign, ever...

Let the hate flow. I wonder what all you expect from a new iPhone. I don't want a gimmicky folding phone, so I usually expect new colors, minor hardware tweaks and mostly internal updates like better cameras and processors at this point.

Apple is pretty limited in how much more they can innovate our communication slabs. Keep shrinking the bevel around the screen, make it lighter, faster, last longer and remain as reliable as it already is.

I don't understand why they can't do action mode in 4K. It's been in 2K for the last 2 iPhones. That's literally the only feature that I've been waiting for.

I can’t believe that with all the excitement and hype around chat, GPT at al Apple would continue to let themselves be so far behind. I look forward to WWDC because I believe Apple will make some great strides.

You and I are in the same boat, except my XR battery is still at 87%.

What I wouldn’t want from Apple is that they focus so much on the iPhone (because it’s basically funding the entire company) that they don’t give their full attention to other products.

You don't think the Macintosh product line is profitable?
You don't think Apple Music (and the whole Apple Store, Apple TV+, etc.) is profitable?

Yes, the iPhone is Apple's biggest selling product and is why Apple is the most valued high-tech company in the world. But even without the iPhone the company is still large and profitable.

The AVP is not a drag on the iPhone evolution. The smartphone is after all just a small table device that can connect to a legacy telephony system.

I said it before and ill say again, the lack of quality designers left at Apple is worrying.

Everyone has left and hardware design reports to Jeff Williams, a complete bean counter.

Don't tell me you can't redesign that bump after 6 years, that's just lazy and poor.

I bet the big iPad Pro redesign is just like the iPhone 15 with tiny bit more curve on the corners.

I'm just hoping iOS 18 gives iPhone a refreshing change it really needs right now.

Would be truly innovative and magical if Apple skipped a year and slowed down the cadence of their iPhone upgrades. Seems like they are stuck in a yearly upgrade cycle for no other good reason than to appease the board.
Agreed! Or bring back the S model with no fanfare but a press release

Yes, but that courageous keyboard replacement physical was 17 years ago.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting to get rid of the iPhone as it is now, but adding to the existing line up.

Foldable, flexible displays are here. Throw us a bone. New form factors and thinking outside the box, and pair it with a reimagined iOS beyond a grid of icons.

Instead, Apple spent a better part of a decade and placed their bets on the VisionPro.
If that’s Tim’s vision of the future, it will certainly be part of his legacy win or lose.
I hope you understand that the Vision Pro Team is just a fraction of the whole Apple R&D and product line… It’s not like Tim has been sitting playing with it every day.

It wouldn’t surprise me they have been testing and improving on multiple form factors, just that these are not yet convenient.

I find the capture button very interesting, along with the larger screen size of the non-max. Touch ID would make it even better.

These could tempt me to consider an iPhone for my next phone, although that could be a couple of years off yet.

More buttons, what a joke the phone design is nowadays, terrible design, ugly colors, heavier and way more expensive, especially in the EU. I just hope my current iPhone lasts forever, if I ever need one I’ll buy a 12 or 13 I don’t care about iPhones anymore.
