The 3 year old Qualcomm X16 is still in many ways better than even the latest Intel Modem. And it certainly support Dual Sim.

The modem price would certainly have dropped since the iPhone 8 era, not to mention it is the IPR price that matters. Difference features set will have different pricing, and we dont know how is that going to work under the new Qualcomm deal.

And eSim has nothing to do with Modem. You can use eSIM with Qualcomm X16. ( That is assuming Apple put Dual Sim features into iPhone SE 2, I do hope that is the case )

Intel doesn't really earn much money from selling modem, it any at all. Their Fab capacity could be much better used for selling everything else which they are severely constrained at the moment.

Qualcomm’s spec sheet for the X16 indicates it only supports LTE+2G as a dual-SIM feature. That’s not dual-SIM as we know it.

The absence of true dual-SIM eliminates X16 as a potential modem candidate.

The lack of LTE+LTE dual-SIM in turn makes eSIM not viable.

I know quite a few people with one, and they all bought it for the size. Or were you just making the point that you have cheap friends? ;)

Yes yes & it's just pure coincidence it was also the cheapest phone. The rumoured 5.4" at 19.5:9 ratio is only slightly wider the 4" but will most likely only be $100 less than the 5.8". We'll see if small phone lovers will pay more than double.

“With a larger 4.7-inch display, the iPhone SE, which has disappointed some fans of the original device.”

LOL. Surely this disappoints ALL fans of the original device. What were the other reasons to own one?
Cost wise, second hand iPhone options have always been an available choice. .

It’s getting annoying with you guys who complain about SE not being the same size as the iPhone 5/5S size. So what. The SE to me was just a placeholder name. This SE2 too is just a placeholder name. I get it you want 4”. That’s long gone just like the headphone jack. Get over it.

To be fair its not "long gone," 4inch SE is still a phone that is actively supported by Apple and since its probably its last year of software support people just want to transition to another updated compact phone by next year.

1) It's not a "SE 2" if it's the size of the iPhone 8. If anything It's a iPhone "9" or 8S. An iPhone SE has to be diminutive.

2) If it's actually $399 that's a real big **** you to the folks that bought an iPhone 8 between the September 2019 launch and whenever these are release.

SE stands for Special Edition, not small. SE2 is a great name for this new device.

The iPhone XR sold for $749 several months ago. The iPhone 11 is significantly better for $699. I don’t see many people complaining.

Just as long as it's a iPhone 8 that has a A13 processor and a dual camera setup, that's all I care about tbh.

The Ford Fiesta sells great even though there are plenty of used cars on the market.

Most people in the market for an SE will be thrilled to see the 4.7” display for $399.

For me it was entirely a coincidence. Up until the SE I had always bought the highest end iPhone available. Admittedly every other year rather than every year. I had the highest end 6s, which because of the size I hated with a passion. I replaced it with an SE not because of the price, but because of the size. It was nice to love my iPhone again. I admit it was a bonus that it was cheap.
However if Apple released an iPhone 11 style phone that was approximately SE sized, that clearly would not cost SE prices, but I would order it the minute they came up for preorder. I’d be prepared to pay iPhone 11 pro max prices for it. Maybe even a couple of hundred more.
The only way I would have the SE2 assuming that what it would be called, is if someone literally gave it to me. Even then I’d be more likely to say no to it.

It’s nice that Apple is making an iPhone at a lower price point, but people liked the 4” display on the iPhone SE much more.
When the SE came out, I can see why people wanted a phone that small but 4 years on? and with technology improving, i'm amazed people still want a phone that small. Surely majority of people wanting this phone has a 4.7 inch iphone.
Surely a 4.7 inch phone would sell better than a 4"..

They can rid the bezels and home button make a 4.7" phone in the compact size or smaller of the older SE, but Apple has courage.

A 4.7 inch, iPhone 8 design?

In other words, it has literally nothing whatsoever to do with the SE. No thanks.
And this is exactly why i hope they don't call it the SE2. So all you fanboys can stop crying that your small old phone got a bit bigger.

And if you want LTE + LTE Dual Sim, you will be surprised to learn X12 offer this functionality, at the expense of Top download speed, which I suppose wouldn't be a problem anyway.

I am surprised how we get to "define" true Dual Sim, to be without DSDV ( Dual Sim Dual Voice ). It isn't true dual sim, at the moment, all the Intel modem only allows DSDS ( Dual Sim Dual Standby ).

Completely agree.

What many of these people fail to realize is that the 4" iPhone screen size is dead, meaning that the original SE will never have a successor.

So the answer is going back 3 generations to Qualcomm X12?

Let's be realistic, Apple has already qualified, tested, and deployed Intel XMM 7560 and 7660. These modems support dual-SIM LTE+LTE. They are cost effective and Apple only expects to sell 1-2 million iPhone SE2 per month.

Why would I need anything bigger than a 4" device?

Yes, I still want a phone with the small form factor of the original SE. Neither have my hands grown bigger in the last four years, nor have my trouser pockets.

And know a number of people who think the same. Yes, this is anecdotal, but don't pretend there are no people who want a small phone.

For me, the iPhone 5/5s/SE is truly the best phone design ever. So easy to use with one hand, so lightweight and yet so elegant and premium feeling. Personally, I don't think any future phone design will top it.

Having said that, I am glad we will at least get a phone that is a little bit smaller than the X/XS/11 Pro. While it isn't perfect like the SE, the iPhone 8 form factor is still substantially lighter and thinner.

SE is the best phone to me that Apple ever made. Aside from its size and shape and battery I really admire the absence of the annoying camera bump that seems to have become a default for quite a while.

Yes, I understand that people use cases and they don't care about the bump, however I never use cases on my iPhones and this camera bump would be bugging the hell out of me. I don't want to even think for a second which side I should put my phone on a table.

No camera bump in SE 2. If people want the bleeding edge cameras they have a ton of other iPhones options.
