That’s what they said about Silicon and basically none of my iOS Apps work, in fact the developers down right blocked it and we already see how well non-iPad apps work on iPad …
This came primarily from apple’s idiotic choice to let you review iOS apps you downloaded on a Mac. They would all get review bombed.

IMHO the biggest issue is even if Apple slashed the price down to $1000, which would never happen.
Still most typical consumers would not want it.
Even $500 most people won't want one.

The only way this type of product is genuinely going to become mainstream is for it to be built into some "almost" normal looking eye-wear which is way way wayyyyyy off into the future.
It will still only have 1 hour of battery life before it needs to be tethered to a battery pack.

If a compelling niche is carved out I could see it. I know this is a huge “if” but all the current attempts are either for games, with there being barely a handful of VR games worth it, and bad attempts at productivity that fail due to bad screens that are headache inducing to read text on.

I have a pet theory that 3D videos might finally work out in the field of public opinion as a consumer-recordable format compatible with multiple devices, but I don’t claim anything near omnipotence.

They’ll probably launch a viewer for the iphone first, with reasonably low manufacture cost and good margins, this will expand reach exponentially. Then an Apple Vision standard and an update to the pro.

Still think they should revisit Apple Glasses. That’s the future to me. 🤷‍♂️

Nah, that would give a completely different experience to the platform they've made. Viewers for phones suck for VR / AR experiences.

To all the doomers out there:

Apple Vision Pro will be all about gaming (and other stuff, but gaming will make people shell out the big bucks for it).

Apple has been playing a very loooooong game in taking gaming to its platforms.

They have Metal, a multitude of gaming/VR/AR APIs, Apple Arcade, Apple TV, iPhone 15 Pro which includes hardware-accelerated ray tracing (which will come to a future Apple TV & iPads), & now macOS Sonoma with Game Mode.

Yeah, each one of those things by itself is “not enough”.

But Apple Vision Pro will meld that all into something super-impressive.

First, $3500 is not expensive for this device. It is cheaper, by half, than the first Macintosh. Millions, not hundreds of thousands will be sold. They will likely follow an iPhone strategy. Perhaps upgrade the chip, sell original model for $2500 when new model is introduced.

The first 128K Mac was $2499. The Mac II was $5500. Even if you try to argue using an inflation calculator, the technology back then was so grossly inferior to present technology so today's Mac's are way better buy for the buck. In a 1984 mind set the Vision Pro prototype is lightyears advance then many profession workstations that were huge in comparison. Look at an older multi processor CCA Silicon Image workstation setup as a example. ;)

Who the hell is this product for? Wealthy ******s? The Brock Turners of the world? I don't see this, or even a lower priced version of it, being a success since there's no real conceivable use of it.

There's very high demand for bigger mobile screens. Everyone is trying to figure out a way to deliver "more screen" in a mobile package. That's why "folds" and "roll"able screens is a thing trying to get traction. That's why iPhone screens keep trying to GROW.

And I'm the "who the hell" this product is for IF it does what was shown in the WWDC demo in terms of delivering a much bigger screen for a MB. I THINK this is my next laptop screen and imagine it plus the bottom half of a MB in my laptop bag... to be used just like I use laptops now and put away just like I put away laptops now. It's not strapped to my head 24/7 but used just like a laptop is used.

If it does only that one thing well, this is my next MBpro 40" or maybe MBpro 50" or maybe MBpro dual 50".

And that my friend is only ONE, ultra-simple, "real conceivable use for it" seemingly far superior to folding laptop screens and/or rollable ones trying to do something similar...

Find me many who would not want a MB 17" if Apple offered one. Here it is. How about a MB 20" if Apple offered one? Here it is. Mobile iMac 27" if Apple made one? Here it is too. iMac 30"? iMac 32"? iMac 40" ultra-wide? 50" UW? And as the screen is scaling larger & larger, the weight and size is staying the same with no (fold) creases.

I don't see the point of this device. My occulus already does almost everything that the apple headset does. The occulus display is relatively lower resolution, but it's good enough to feel totally immersive. As far as I can see there are only 2 meaningful unique capabilities that the apple headset seems to do:

1. Make a vr recreation of your face that supposedly makes vr meetings more realistic, but I have significant doubts about how well that's gonna work. If it works well then it could be a compelling feature.

2. Show a vr computer screen. This could be useful in some scenarios, but I think most people will almost always prefer to use a real screen. Popping open your retina screen laptop or ipad will be quicker and more comfortable than strapping a headset over your eyes.

...but with that said, even though I don't see anything that would make this a winning device, I also would never bet against a new apple product being successful because new apple products have a nearly unbroken track record of becoming successful in the long run.

Pretty sure if they replace all the band material with Fine Woven a lot of those cost might dissapear. Just like their cases.

Sincere question. Why is it the first 10-15 comments on anything posted in Macrumors are quite obviously Apple Haters? Why are you here if you hate Apple? Why would you waste your time engaging with something you dislike so much? I quickly get rid of and don’t engage with anything in my life that zi dislike let alone hate. I love Apple and its amazing products so that’s why I’m here. Why are you?
I doubt there's many who totally hate Apple around here, I know I'm not one of them. I can, however, be extremely disappointed and annoyed about some of the things they do! The Vision Pro is a no go for me, the whole way. It's an old type product that really never sold well, and all the hype for it is annoying. I also wish they'd go in a bit different direction with the iPhone, smaller, rather than larger, lighter, and definitely not so slippery! Maybe even a fold or flip to get the carrying size down...

I spend way too much on Apple products to be a total hater. (27" 2020 iMac, Mac Mini Pro, iPhone, Apple TV Multiple iPads and iPad Pros...)

serious question.. what $3500 product was a runaway success?

Remind me if the masses have this amount of disposable income for unproven tech.

Btw I’m the biggest Apple supporter here.

Configure a MBpro 16" as you would want it and check the price. Here's my crack at that (not loading up with max specs or best chip but just some middling choices)...

MBproMidSpecs.jpg

Apparently 16" MBpro is very popular.

And apparently spreading it out over 12 months helps it find an affordable amount of disposable income... or some buyers get their companies to pay for them and use tax deduction for some added break. Maybe Apple offers 24 months for Vpro to make the payment for the "only this much in monthly payments" crowd see it as about HALF that one being paid by many who fell all over themselves buying a mid-specced MBpro already?

Maybe Apple offers 36 months to pitch it as "only $103/month" for some kind of intro offer (or an oddball 38 months so it can become "only $98/month"... or includes the 3% cash back in the purchase so that 36 months can get it under $100/month)?

I'm typing this through a $6K (not maxed out) Mac Studio and seeing what I'm typing on a $2K monitor locked at a fixed size for its entire life and likely too heavy to ever move from the spot where it sits right now. I don't have any perception I'm elite rich. And I'm very interested in Vpro.

(Facepalm) - here we go again.

"Analysts" make up some BS product that Apple haven't announced (Apple being famously secretive about such things). Later "analysts" realise they were completely wrong. They can't say that because Marketing, so "analysts" instead claim that Apple have delayed or cancelled BS thing they totally just made up.

Fantasy thing invented by crystal ball gazer is now maybe happening later or not happening because of fantasy reason invented by crystal ball gazer.

And here we all are, saying "TOLD YOU SO" and so-on. Please stop. You're embarrassing yourselves.
