How likely it is that these 14 and 16 MacBook Pro will be sold out on Launch Day?
Briefly if anything. Demand on these are not at the level of an iPhone, then again, neither is the production run. A lot of MacBook Pro 14/16" customers will sit on their M1/M2 models for years to come. Macs never get as backordered as phones.

Predictions or not - my feelings would really not be hurt by a "more affordable MacBook model".

I always had this feeling that MacBooks yes, are a great value when you look at what you get, but when you compare to PCs, it is difficult to justify at times unless you fall into the whole "media creator" category. I would think a more "general computing" model would be a good addition to MacBook line (and no, I do not really think that Air is it).

It is completely unlikely that the MBA 15 will be upgraded after just over 4 months.
Two things about that:
1. As others have pointed out: Something similar has happened in the past. Not unprecedented.
2. It could always be an option: The M2 stays at the same price as before, the M3 is $200 more.

Awesome.
My pie in the sky wish list (not what I expect will happen and I am sure many people will disagree with some of it)
  • M3 Processor
  • Usual items we all want (More battery, More RAM (unified Mem), More storage)
  • Touch Bar in addition to (above) the function keys
  • FaceID (in addition to TouchID)
  • Touch screen
  • 15 inch MBP :)
  • Enhanced repairability, upgradability. (again, pie in the sky wish list)

Don't think we'll see M3 Pro and Max. They always release base M1, M2 in MacBook and Mac Mini first. Pro and Max comes about 6 months later. This time I think we'll see M3 in iMac, MB Air and 13" MBP which haven't been updated since April 2021 and June 2022 and in March we'll see M3 Pro/Max in MB Pro 14"-16" and next summer (June) Max/Ultra in Mac Studio.

Funny that this news broke out out right as I am preparing a Mac Studio M2 Ultra 192GB to return to Apple.

Not happy with with issues from dual GPUs of the past plus other performance issues. Not to mention some of the graphics work loads run much better on my M1 Max 32GB (again, dual GPUs, Apple just doesn't have the support or is making the investments needed to make this work currently.)

Keep in mind though, this years M2 Pro and Max MacBook Pro's were originally intended to be launched in September or October of 2022, but due to the issues that were happening in China at the time, they had actually cut it out of the launch event. Which ultimately pushed it to January. The M3 launches is Apple is just recalibrating the launch schedules. Which also means, things are back on track. M4 is coming fall of 2024.
you really think Apple will release M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max next week? I'm not convinced the iMac will be M3 because that could seriously decrease holiday sales for M2 MBA models. I'm guessing the following:

M2 (possibly also M2 Pro) iMac
M3 Pro / M3 Max MBP

No base M3 Macs until next year.

It makes it easier to launch the new MBAs early next year with just a press release if the M3 has already been introduced, and launching an M2 iMac at this stage just seems a bit futile. Just get Johny Srouji on to talk about the M3, then how the Pro & Max expand upon it, doesn't need a dedicated event for each.

I’d love to be wrong but M3 Pro/Max MBPs being released BEFORE the MacBook Air refresh seems unlikely.
It's possible that the base M3 performance will be getting close to the low end M2 Pro performance. So it would make perfect sense to release the Pro/Max versions first to keep the performance distinction.

This the same leakers who said there wouldn’t be any more events for 2023? 😂

Can’t believe it’s an event at midnight till 2am! Gonna have to check MacRumours in the morning instead of watching it which is a shame.
Technically, he is not a “leaker”, he’s an analyst. He made the prediction because the production volume of those MacBooks are still pretty low for Apple to announce them.

Yeah that makes most sense on paper. Possible Apple throws a curve ball sort of like how this event is weird being at night.

Literally got the shipping confirmation today.

That's pretty obvious they'll be releasing new 14"&16" MacBook Pro.
In Europe base configurations of the 16" are backordered for 2-3 weeks.
I feel like that’s been the estimated time since they first launched tbh.

I'd be inclined to agree had Apple not introduced the 15" M2 MBA in June (only 4 months ago) and the Vision Pro will also have an M2 SoC. In addition to that, currently yield of TSMC's N3B node is not that high. I don't think there's enough yield to satisfy iPhone 15 Pro, M3 Pro / Max MBP and M3 iMac demand

Possibly an M2 Ultra MBP on the way?

Think those iPhone cameras protrude? Wait until you see the bubble to hold that Mac Studio Ultra heat sink on a MBP Mx Ultra. Studio is the FAT Mini for a big tangible reason, not overcome in M2 Ultra. I suspect M3 Ultra will also be Fat Mini too. Where's that heat sink going to go in a MB?

Not updating the MacBook Air makes sense for a few reasons.

1) Most people for whom the Air models are the target find the M2 models very powerful as is.
2) Since these are the largest selling Macs, not shipping with M3 reduces chip demand
3) Differentiates the 13 inch Pro from the 13 inch Air
4) Provides some excitement for a 2024 MacBook Air update.

Interesting. It almost seems like Apple is desperate to move on from M2. And yet they're releasing the Vision Pro with M2. I guess because M2 didn't sell well, so they have a bunch of leftover chips. One leaker predicted they might come out with an Apple TV with M2. If they do update MBPs at this event, that means there will be two different "2023 MacBook Pro" releases, which is confusing.

I think MaxTech might be correct that the iMac gets M2/M2 Pro and not M3. Regular M3 will be released after M3 Pro/Max next year with new MacBook Air models.

You don’t make a keynote to only put a M2 Pro to an iMac. It has to be something more, a new chip.
