go to apple website, best buy etc. and try to see how long it takes to get 16" Pro/Max. Then come back and rephrase your statement.
Statistics are not made out of two data points. You need more and Apple is clearly going for something different this time.

Sure, anything is possible but it's not clear until it actually happens. :) It would be the first time to do such a thing for Apple.

You also have to consider the event time. If Apple was going to make such an extraordinary announcment they wouldn’t do it so late in the evening. Here in Europe it will be at 1-2 a.m. when most people are asleep.

Well, iPhone clearly showed whats coming so take it as a lesson to know next time that waiting 2 years and the give up is not the right call. Either keep waiting or buy when you need it. Simple :)
I waited for the release of this year's MBPs. When they were first released in '19 I didn't like it enough and wasn't pressed to update, but by the second half of '22 I was more than ready to.

Well, if you bought this year model in january then you got almost a year out of it. I haven't bought as I need/want raytracing so I didn't get anything but hopefully with the M3 release and raytracing in all variants I'll either get M3 Pro mini or will wait for M3 Max studio (pending various factors).

if you don't need raytracing then don't worry about having M2 as the machine you have will be fine for a long time. I do 3D so raytracing for me is a must. Until its there I'm not getting new machine :)

Damn, I just bought an M2 Max a couple weeks ago because I didn’t expect they’d be updating it in less than a year. What’s the best options here? I also already traded in my original laptop, so I can’t even go back to that temporarily.
Your M2 Max is more than capable. These M3 Pro/Max will be slightly more power efficient, 20-25% faster, probably support more screens and have Thunderbolt 5 support. Nothing to worry about if your workflow doesn’t demand more right now.

Nothing says they don’t make these machines more expensive like they did with the M2 so there’s that as well.

I'm not super worried, but you hopefully get where I'm coming from :) I'm perfectly happy with my MBP and a new model won't make it any worse :)

Another possibility is the introduction of a 27"/32" iMac with M3 Pro/Max first before Pro/Max comes to the laptops. That wouldn't create as much confusion since it's a different Mac segment.

Yeah that would be another possible one.(also I just remembered that all the iMacs are bright colors and a dark iMac with M3 series would be very cool going with the dark theme)

apple-october-scary-fast-event.jpg

Part of my gut thinks Apple desperately wants to reclaim that window in time when everyone was raving about Apple Silicon's performance over Intel/AMD and thats gone now or told with a caveat like "best performance per watt...etc". If they are using the words 'Scary Fast' maybe they are going wow some headlines with M3 series.

I was seriously thinking about picking up a Mac Studio this week on discount from MicroCenter but I'll definitely hold off on what they got cooking up(even though a M2 series chips are far more than I need)

Another possibility is that Apple originally planned to hold off the introduction until January, but that sales in the last month are unexpectedly down so much that they've moved the date up at the last minute.
Yup, this 💯

Apple's upcoming "Scary Fast" event will focus on the M3 series MacBook Pro models, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo's wording suggests that he is expecting multiple M3 chips rather than just a single M3 chip, hinting at the possibility of M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips.

macbook-pro-pink.jpg

If Apple does release M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips at once, we can expect to see the new chips introduced in 13-inch, 14-inch, and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.

Kuo says that he previously predicted that Apple would not likely introduce new MacBook Pro models in 2023 because of "limited 4Q 23 shipments," and if new MacBook Pros do come out in November or December, the tight supply will last until the first quarter of 2024. Kuo further says that Mac shipments have declined due to the "limited M2 computing power upgrade," which may be the reason why Apple might launch M3 MacBook Pro models with low production volume.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman also says that Apple has been testing M3 Max and M3 Pro MacBook Pro models, suggesting that these machines are going to be refreshed. Gurman just last week claimed that Apple would not update the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips until early 2024, so it seems that his predictions have since changed.

That Kuo and Gurman are both now suggesting that we'll see 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models at Apple's October event comes as a surprise because much of their prior information pointed toward a 2024 refresh for these devices.

Gurman maintains that Apple will not refresh the MacBook Air models, Mac mini, Mac Studio, or Mac Pro at this time, which leaves the iMac, 13-inch MacBook Pro, 14-inch MacBook Pro, and 16-inch MacBook Pro for the October event. As Gurman has previously pointed out, these are the machines that are facing extended shipping times in Apple's online store.

According to Kuo, if the M3 models don't end up boosting MacBook shipments, there is an increased likelihood of an "all-new design MacBook Pro in 2025" and also a chance Apple will consider a "more affordable MacBook model."

^ THIS: Is THE only thing that should matter to Apple right now is the Mac.

From what all is going on this month ... Apple's M3 better BRING IT, and deliver with Jony_The_SoC_Pimp! Time to give us our fix on the Silicon MacDaddy!

October timeline:
Apple iPhone 15 Pro with A17Pro released with HEAT, not the good kind of heat to bring, and some people made early decisions to return as buyers remorse (whether informed, by knee-jerk panic, or just their time to switch; myself included) it'll show this current Quarter - yet not entirely for just shy of 30-40 day's of sale time. Still, if anything at all its was enough to tarnish the brand just slightly.

10.24.2023 is Qualcomm's cpu time to show us what they got in the mobile world: Snapdragon 8Gen3 (both AB-AC; built-for-Samsung): co built by TSMC, holding the bulk of production, and Samsung's brand new FAB which made huge leaps in performance on their Exynos 2400 compared to last years 22/2300. Next year we'll get to see how it does.

Esper and Lenovo Offer New Enterprise-Grade Android Solutions for Dedicated Device Use Cases

Lenovo can sell any Android supported Lenovo devices with Esper Device Management and a portfolio of selected devices preloaded with Esper Foundation (Custom Android OS) bundled with Esper Device Management.

...

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M70a 3rd Gen desktop is the first of four planned x86 platforms to run Esper Foundation for Android, an enterprise grade powerful and robust custom OS for x86 and ARM devices.

...

While Android is the most popular operating system for edge devices globally, it’s also becoming the popular operating system for enterprise dedicated device use cases, according to a 2022 report by 451 Research. Android (including AOSP and Android with Google Apps, or GMS) accounted for 41% of the device estates of those surveyed, alongside Microsoft Windows (26%), Apple iOS (24%), and Linux (8%). Organizations running a significant portion of their device fleets on Android report the primary reasons they use Android are its lower total cost of ownership, strong platform and app developer tools, and its robust security features.

(opinion: I'm guessing the last 3rds maybe specifically focused on Samsung's KNOX which goes beyond a secure enclave but from the larger focus of other chips etc, but I don't know. I don't believe there is a strong enterprise/business/healthcare inquiry for X86*64 to be based on Android kernel/OS, yet if any inquire its most likely because neither Intel, AMD, NVidia or others have been invited to the Microsoft_Qualcomm Windows on ARM party as of yet. Thus far I could only see NVidia being capable of scale for latest Arm SoC on v9 instruction set. we'll see.

Lenovo and NVIDIA Announce Hybrid AI Solutions to Help Enterprises Quickly Adopt GenAI

In close collaboration with NVIDIA, Lenovo will deliver fully integrated systems that bring AI-powered computing to everywhere data is created, from the edge to the cloud, helping businesses easily deploy tailored generative AI applications to drive innovation and transformation across any industry.

The offerings were described by Lenovo Chairman and CEO Yuanqing Yang and NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang at the annual global Lenovo Tech World keynote held in Austin, Texas, where they discussed businesses’ need for end-to-end solutions that bring together accelerated systems, AI software and expert services to quickly build and run custom AI models using their own data.

Lenovo Unveils Comprehensive Vision – ‘AI for All’ – at 9th Global Tech World Event

As part of a unifying vision of ‘AI for All’, and following its announcement of a further US$1 billion investment in AI innovation, Lenovo shared its dynamic approach to hybrid AI where it believes public, private, and personal foundation models will co-exist in order to enable AI for All. To keep data secure and protect the privacy of users, Lenovo AI can operate exclusively within a device or securely with on-premises servers. In both instances, Lenovo AI learns from data provided by an individual user or through the proprietary data of an enterprise, but ensures no information is shared publicly or enters open training data sets. Not only is this more secure, but the results can be more powerful and personalized.

Lenovo Chairman and CEO Yuanqing Yang was joined on stage by leaders from Lenovo’s global partners, including NVIDIA Founder, President and CEO, Jensen Huang; AMD Chair and CEO, Dr. Lisa Su, and Formula 1® President and CEO, Stefano Domenicali. Microsoft Chairman and CEO, Satya Nadella, Qualcomm CEO and President, Cristiano Amon, and Intel CEO, Pat Gelsinger joined Tech World via video link.
So.... what's going on with Siri? Is AI team still led by, or did they release from the 'Car Project' senior vice president of Machine Learning and AI Strategy John Giannandrea? The guy brought on some 6-7yrs ago when the world and Apple got a strong wiff that Siri wsa seriously beginning to fall behind, taking 2yrs to bring us 20% more realistic voices and connection to 'Shortcuts', which was simply just a purchase as all the heavy work was already done pre-purchase by Shortcuts creator.

So 3yrs then onto an invisible Car Project - which I'm sure, as i've stated before was the UI for cars over Car Play. There was no AI going on there, so why send him to that team only to bring him back? Sorry I know I'm hating but there is substantial lack of work shown to give cause, a lot different than E.Cue haters. Take it what you will, Apple is further falling behind and deals are happening left right and centre potentially affecting partnerships & huge revenues. Makes me really worry ....

hence Bring It Apple!

Hoping they discontinue the 13" Pro with Touch Bar. That Mac shouldn't exist anymore. The 13/15" Air and the 14/16" Pro address all the possible use cases.

Also, where's the iMac, Kuo?

While agree, its possible they could repurpose some of that model into the latest MacBook (no suffix).

Now if M3 bring us Dark Matter type Apple symbol's on M3 Pro/Max/Ultra lineup for the MBP ... oooh yeah you know they Bringin'it!

I really hope they release a M3 Air so the M2 version is discounted, as my 2015 Air is finally about to give up. In my country the M2 is so expensive at the moment.

Was that ever conveyed? I would be all over that.
No, it wasn't. When the M1s went into the ipad pros the technical arguments to seperate the ipads from the macbooks were clearly no longer valid. Much like how the studio display has most of the guts of an imac.

I think apple is too focused on margins and specs at the high end. Instead they needs to think more about complementarity and expanding its marketshare in computing like it has owned mobile.

For those who said 14" and 16" MBP unlikely due to the fact they were released on January 2023, let us recall that these were delayed due to various production issues. There were supposed to be released in the Fall. Perhaps Apple is getting back to its originally planned release schedule.

Or perhaps we'll all wrong again :D
But the larger AnX and now M series chip always follow a 500-day or 1.5 year-ish release cycle, with Mn Pro/Max lacking behind the Mn for 90-ish days. Granted the M2 Pro/Max MacBooks should have been released on October 2022, at October 2023, it still feels too early, unless Apple changed their R&D process and somehow has M3 Pro/Max ready at the same time at M3. M3 is expected though, since it has been about 500 days since M2 came out.

I’m hoping they move the 13” MacBook Pro to M3 and a few other choice component upgrades as I love my M1 and would love to upgrade at this time. I am one of those users that still loves the Touch Bar. Can’t wait to see what Apple has in store for us on Monday.

The newer Intel and specially AMD chips became close or even outperformed the M2 chips (even if the x86 ones are energy-killers).

Makes sense that Apple would refresh their lineup with newer chips, even if it's the only change.

Remember that this is the 'More Poweful Chip & Benchmark Score' game. And Christmas is the finish grilled flag for the year.
Do you think there are that many cross shoppers that Apple would even care about that? Maybe in a decade or two if an ARM based Windows OS gains traction and the hardware has matured enough, that argument might gain some validity. Right now, if you walk into a shop to buy a Mac, you aren't cross shopping and the same can be said if your work uses Windows or you want a gaming PC.
