This is true. Not all carriers allow for all security to be disabled however. Just seems like a waste to have a ID System that will never be enabled. It would still be a very welcome upgrade. Lot's of old Mini's out there with a lot of lag with todays NAV Applications.
Less of a waste than Touch ID. The faceid hardware can still be used for portrait selfies and Animoji even if you turn off faceid. If you turn off touchid the hardware for touchid has no other purpose.

If the new iPad mini supports the Apple Pencil I’m going to want one despite really not needing it.

Thatd be the most adorable little drawing device. Can almost pocket it, screensize big enough not to be a nuisance.

iPad mini is the perfect size for my medical lab coat, my men's blazer, and my travel vest pocket. A8 is not too bad, but I would love to pay for a new A11 (or better yet A12) iPad mini.

I would pay $499 for the guts of the latest iPad (not even the pro) in a mini package with at least 64GB.

Please take my money, Apple.

I am happy with my larger 15" laptop for "real" work and my 5" Android phone for carrying around in my pocket. I just want an 8" tablet for reading and watching movies on airplanes, and the 9.7" feels too big for that, especially when trying to hold it one handed.

Honestly I've never understood why anyone who owns a laptop wants a tablet that big. The 8" range is PERFECT for so many tablet uses...

They're not even remotely comparable.

for watching a wide-screen video format they are close. But yes overall the mini has about twice the total screen area.

iPad mini 1/2/3 design with an A10, I bet. Pass.

Also, mini buyers better hope they don’t go back to the washed-out colors from the mini 2/3 panel, those that only covered 67% of the color gamut.

A12 I get one first day. A11 I get around to it. A10 I wait a few months and maybe get a used one a year later.

Hmmm, he mentions a cheaper panel for the iPad Mini. I wonder if that means they will go back to the Mini 2/3 design which didn't have a laminated screen, throw in an A10 or hopefully an A11 and sell it for somewhere in the neighborhood of $279-299 for 32 GB?

Nice thing about the not-laminated screen is they are really easy and cheap to replace a cracked front glass.

Mac Mini, please! My Late 2011 iMac is to heavy for a good dual monitor mount, and up until the latest generation of iMacs was not really worth updating to.

I really don't see new AirPods coming out at this event. If they were gonna launch them this year it would've been at the iPhone event in September. This event will be all iPad Pro + Mac.

It does not really make sense to annouce a new iPad mini alongside the new Pros. The mini isn't a "pro" device (let's ignore whether the iPad Pro is either). New minis make more sense alongside the spring budget iPad refresh.

I am hoping the mini gets FaceID and edge to edge, replacing the 9.7” iPad the next size up is 10.5” and 12.9”

Considering the 9.7” iPad got Pencil support, Apple should just drop the “Pro” moniker. What next a Pro iPhone?

ARM will be the consumer silicone and a ARM/x64 combination will be the Pro models, this is what I suspect.

Yeah, I don't think the non-laminated screen is a deal breaker - it's probably fine especially if it brings down the price a little. If they go back to the panel from the Mini 2/3 with the 62% sRGB color gamut though that would be terrible.

Just merge the iPad lines already, why is this device even called “Pro”, that is like saying I have a Pro iPhone because it is the Xs model. Nonsense marketing, screen size should be the only differentiator TBH.

Is there a Pro iOS version too

I'm very skeptical that there will be a new iPad Mini. What would they price it at? It seems doubtful they could sell it for less than the $329 iPad.

New iPad mini would definitely be my next Apple purchase. I don’t care how much it cost , let’ say under $500 will be fine.

serious question, wouldn't A10 be a little insulting? As in they would have to make special effort to handicap the thing?

I suspect A11 or 12, considering A10 is in AppleTV 4K and that does not even do half of what a tablet or phone does.

How is Samsung capable to incorporate an AMOLED in their 9+” tablet and we have a Pro device still on LCD. Not complaining however if the Xs/Max are on AMOLED provide the same treatment.

There also doesn’t need to really be stage time for them if all they did is make the case Qi compatible.

I wonder if we'll get a 12" Macbook refresh this year or if they'll be debuting that next year.
Amber Lake 5w Y-Series were launched in late August. I think you will hear Phil mention in a quick aside that, “we are also updating the 12” MacBook today with Intel’s latest CPUs.” when they announce pricing for the 13” MacBook.

I would rather have a new iPod Touch.
That ship has sailed...

I'd bet on a starting price of $800 and the ability to option that up into 27" iMac territory. The base model will probably ship with an SSD so take the cheapest 21" iMac with SSD, then factor out a few hundred for the screen and extra aluminum.
I’m hoping the Mini will be based on the guts of MacBook Pro, minus a screen and keyboard, but with the battery so it is mobile and doesn’t need a UPS. People will pair it with the new low cost laptop, to get the power of fastest laptop without the heat and bulk of the fastest laptop.
