The Xr cost €850 wher I live. So that would make the (don’t believe it) iPad Mini cost, according to your calculations, less then €250!
Smoking to much pot lately?
The Xr doesn't have a 6.5" screen. So the question goes straight back to you: How much pot?

My 71 year old mother would love a new Mini. Hers is okay but she definitely does not want a full-size iPad, ever (way too big/heavy for her hands). It's been a while since there was any update available so this would be an ideal Christmas present.

My 75 year old mother loves her Mini. She doesn’t want a big iPhone, nor does she want a full size iPad.

I remember seeing a sales breakout a few months ago - and I could swear it was showing that the iPad mini was the biggest seller for Apple - does anyone else remember seeing that?

In general, I think Apple's strategy is to release expensive items first, to cash in on those who want the latest and aren't concerned with value - and then follow those up with better value options - like Macbook Pro with Touch bar to ??? or iPhone Xs to Xr...

Pilots?
“Pilots looking to buy the best iPad available today should definitely steer towards the 10.5″ Pro. This model significantly improves on previous full-size iPad designs by including a much faster processor, larger/brighter display and increased storage capacity”
I have a couple pilot friends and they say most pilots prefer the mini as it "fits" better in the cockpit. They don't necessarily need the horsepower of the pro for the apps that they use.

I love using my iPad Mini 4 for reading, and it will be good to see it updated. Hopefully it won’t be heavier and more fragile with a glass back, it’s heavy enough when you hold it for a while to read. I don’t think I’ll upgrade immediately as iOS 12 has made my mini much more useable. A definite upgrade in the near future though.

An iPad Mini refresh?

Well that’s... unexpected. So much so that I have my doubt that it’ll happen. Also, considering how nice the Pro models are with all the tech that’s packed into them, the Mini should get the same treatment.

iPad Mini Pro or bust.

Kuo has provided good reports before so it's certainly possible, just unexpected. There are rumors of a new Mac mini also so I guess we'll see what happens. Apple released a low cost iPad, a low cost iPhone X, and there is a rumored low cost MacBook also, so I think they are trying to hit a number of different price points.
Kuo has a track record of being correct of 48%. Survey done by 9to5mac.

the mini will probably take the XR form factor and colors.. i bet..
Bet is on.

No Apple. If you are going to do an iPad Mini 5, do it right. IPad Mini Pro, 512GB storage, best processor, the works. 8 inch, 11 inch, 13 inch iPad Pros would make a good iPad lineup. I don't want to see the new Mini become the XR of iPads.

I agree with this 100%

Just kuo? Not saying he’s always right but if you’re singling him out then you must know of people with significantly better track records. Who are they?

And I’ll take his prediction over yours.
We’ll see.

Haha. None. Dealer been caught.

It does not really make sense to annouce a new iPad mini alongside the new Pros. The mini isn't a "pro" device (let's ignore whether the iPad Pro is either). New minis make more sense alongside the spring budget iPad refresh.

Sure it does. They want to hit the folks that love the mini and might buy it. That said I don’t think the announcement will be very big something like “so everyone remembers how we replaced the iPad Air with a new IPad with Pencil last spring, well we’re doing the same thing to the ipad Mini this fall” and done

Please. This analyst just blows hot air

It's the best hot air of any analyst out there who follows Apple, like it nor not.

Re an updated iPad mini. I'm of two minds. Make it the cheapest iPad possible with the basics for the kids as a media consumption device. Or bump it up with pencil support at a higher cost to use as a creation device. I hope for the latter but we might just get the former...

It'll make for a great Xmas gift

Face ID would be an issue for the Aviation Industry IMO. The Mini’s currently in use (huge amount) are shared by many different crew at times. :apple:

So they use multiple finger prints for TouchID right now? Or just a passcode, cuz the passcode option is still there... or no lock at all. In anycase, I imagine Apple doesn't worry too much about edge cases like that.
